Karnataka: Abin Shibi from Kerala throws acid on a minor girl after ‘rejection’, injures her 2 friends too in Kadaba govt college

In a disturbing turn of events that unfolded on a seemingly ordinary Monday, a young man's act of violence shattered the lives of three college students in Karnataka. The Karnataka Police swiftly took into custody a 24-year-old individual from Kerala, identified as Abin Shibi, following his grievous assault on the trio. The incident took place right before the victims were about to step into their examination hall at the Kadaba Government College, located in the Dakshina Kannada district. Shibi, who is pursuing an MBA in Malappuram’s Nilambur, carried out this heinous act which has left the college and the wider community in shock.

The victims, identified as Aleena, Archana, and Amrita, were preparing for their exams when they unexpectedly became the targets of Shibi's acid attack. This attack not only disrupted their academic pursuits but also inflicted them with physical injuries, marking a traumatic episode in their lives. Quick action by the college administrators led to the apprehension of Shibi before he could escape, ensuring his immediate handover to the legal authorities for further action.

Delving deeper into the motive behind this atrocious act, the initial investigation has revealed a chilling backstory. It appears that Shibi's attack was primarily aimed at one of the girls, who suffered severe third-degree burns to her face. This young woman became a victim of Shibi's unreciprocated romantic advances, leading to a rejection that he seemingly could not accept. In a misguided and reprehensible response, Shibi chose to harm her with acid, inadvertently injuring her two friends in the process. This act of violence not only highlights the dangers of unaddressed aggression but also raises urgent questions about the safety of women and the need for comprehensive measures to protect them from such attacks.

This incident has left a deep impact on the local community, stirring feelings of anger and a demand for justice. As the investigation continues, there is a collective call for stringent actions against the perpetrator and a thorough examination of the circumstances that led to this tragic event. The safety of students in educational institutions, especially women, has become a paramount concern, prompting discussions on how to create a safer environment for all.

In a chilling episode that unfolded at the Kadaba Government PU College, three students faced a horrifying ordeal just moments before they were to embark on their Class 12 exams. This incident has left the victims and the local community reeling, as it starkly highlights the vulnerability of students even within the supposed safety of their educational institutions.

The attack was precisely timed to cause maximum disruption and harm, targeting the victims during a crucial academic milestone - the Pre-University Course (PUC) exams. The girls were gathered in the college corridors, engrossed in last-minute preparations, unaware of the impending danger. In a calculated move to avoid detection, the attacker, Abin Shibi, donned a mask and a cap, disguising himself to blend in. With a devastating lack of regard for human life, he launched his attack, hurling a bottle of acid at the girl who had spurned his romantic advances. The acid, a corrosive substance capable of causing severe burns upon contact, inflicted third-degree injuries on her face. The other two victims, caught in the horrifying incident, sustained minor injuries due to the acid spill. All three students are now undergoing medical treatment, a testament to the lasting impact of this heinous act.

Kadaba Police, in their statement, shed light on the attacker's methodical approach to executing his plan. Disguised in the college uniform, Shibi exploited this as a means to gain unauthorized entry into the school premises, misleading those around him into believing he was a student. This premeditated strategy allowed him to carry out the acid attack with a disturbing level of precision. The immediate response by the college staff, who apprehended Shibi right after the attack, played a crucial role in his arrest. The ongoing investigation seeks to uncover further details, including how Shibi acquired the uniform, signaling a comprehensive approach to understanding and addressing the layers of security breaches that facilitated this crime.

The sinister nature of the attack, leveraging the disguise of a student to commit such a vile act, raises pressing concerns about safety measures within educational environments. It prompts a critical evaluation of security protocols, ensuring that such breaches are mitigated in the future to protect students from threats of this magnitude.

Shobha Karandlaje, an important leader from BJP and also an MP from Udupi, spoke about this. She wrote on a social media platform, X, blaming the government in Karnataka for not keeping people safe. She said, "The recent acid attack on female students at Kadaba Govt Junior College, carried out by an accused from Kerala, highlights a dire law & order situation. The victims’ future hangs by a thread". She is very worried about how safe students are and what will happen to these students now.

The police found out that the student who was hurt the most comes from the same place as the man who did this, both are from Kerala. She moved to Karnataka to study more. The police think the man did this because he felt very sad and angry that she did not want to be in a relationship with him. They said, "It looks like an act of desperation due to rejection of love".

The police have taken this very seriously. They have made a legal complaint against the man for hurting the students with acid. This is very serious and the law says he could be punished a lot for this. The police also said if the students' parents complain, they will use a special law called Pocso to protect children to make the case even stronger against the man. They said, "If the parents of any of the girls file a complaint, we will also invoke provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act against the accused".

Right now, the police are looking more into what happened to make sure they know everything and can make sure justice is done.

This event has made many people talk about how we can keep students safe at school and what more can be done to stop such sad things from happening again.
