On Friday, 9 January, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee lodged two complaints with the police against the Enforcement Directorate following raids conducted at the office of the India Political Action Committee (I-PAC) and the residence of its co-founder, Pratik Jain. The complaints were filed in response to the ED’s search operations, which quickly turned into a major political flashpoint in the state.

On Wednesday, 30th December, a special court of the National Investigation Agency in Assam’s Guwahati pronounced a major verdict in a terror conspiracy case. The court awarded life imprisonment to terrorist Mohammad Kamaruj Zaman, also known as Kamaruddin, who was found to be linked with the Pakistan-based Islamic terror outfit Hizb-Ul-Mujahideen.
