“Racism isn’t dead—it just logs in daily”: Leaked Young Republicans Telegram chat linked to Trump explodes into scandal, revealing racist, anti-India, and pro-Nazi hate that exposes America’s deepening crisis of intolerance and hypocrisy

Paul Ingrassia, the newly-nominated lead for the Office of the Special Counsel in the Trump administration also expressed his pro-Nazi thoughts in the group chat.

Rising Racism and Pro-Nazi Sentiments in Trump’s Republican Circles: A Telegram Leak Unmasks Deep-Rooted Hate

A shocking political scandal has erupted in the United States, exposing a dark side within Donald Trump’s Republican network. Several leaders from the Young Republicans group are under fire after a massive leak of their Telegram group chat, revealing a disturbing mix of racism, pro-Nazi sympathies, and violent fantasies.

The investigation, first revealed by POLITICO, uncovered over 2,000 pages of racist and homophobic messages exchanged among members of a group titled “RESTOREYR WAR ROOM.” The group belonged to Restore YR, a faction within the Young Republicans movement that aimed to reshape the organization’s leadership and influence.

The chat was originally created by Peter Giunta, the former chair of the New York State Young Republicans (NYSR). Giunta claimed the group’s purpose was to rally support for his campaign to head the NYSR. However, the tone of the discussions soon descended into an appalling mix of hate speech, violent rhetoric, and Nazi glorification. The messages spanned from early January to mid-August 2024, leading to widespread outrage and resignations within Republican circles following POLITICO’s exposé.

Explicit Hate and Disturbing Fantasies

The leaked messages showed several prominent Republican youth leaders referring to Black Americans as monkeys and “the watermelon people.” They also joked about sending political opponents to gas chambers, discussed rape and suicide, and even glorified slavery. POLITICO’s report revealed that these remarks were not isolated — they were part of a sustained pattern of hate.

The vice chair of the Kansas Young Republicans, William Hendrix, was found using racial slurs — “n–ga” and “n–guh” — more than a dozen times. Around the same time, Bobby Walker, the vice head of the New York State Young Republicans, described rape as “epic.” In one of the most shocking lines, Peter Giunta, then still NYSR chair, declared that “everyone that votes no is going to the gas chamber.”

The cruelty continued. Giunta bragged, “Im going to create some of the greatest physiological torture methods known to man. We only want true believers.” Responding to this chilling message, Joe Maligno, who once identified himself as the general counsel for the NYSR, wrote mockingly, “Can we fix the showers? Gas chambers don’t fit the Hitler aesthetic.”

As if that wasn’t enough, Annie Kaykaty, a national committee member from New York, replied with a horrifying statement — “I’m ready to watch people burn now.” The group’s depravity was evident when Bobby Walker himself acknowledged, “If we ever had a leak of this chat we would be cooked.”

Trump, Epstein, and the Nazi Obsession

The chats also revealed a bizarre fascination with Donald Trump, Jeffrey Epstein, and Nazi ideology. Members joked about Trump covering up Epstein’s child sex offences and glorified far-right figures within their own party.

In one message, Alex Dwyer, the chair of the Kansas Young Republicans, mockingly wrote, “Trumps too busy burning the Epstein files.” The group also discussed their admiration for Nazis and the fear of being branded a RINO (Republican In Name Only) if they criticized Trump.

The racism extended beyond the Black community. In a disgusting turn, members mocked Indians, perpetuating stereotypes about hygiene and appearance. Bobby Walker mentioned that a friend once “dated this very obese Indian woman for a period of time.” To this, Giunta replied that the woman “was not Indian.” Samuel Douglass, a state senator from northern Vermont and head of the state’s Young Republicans, cruelly added, “She just didn’t bathe often.”

As outrage grew, Walker — who was scheduled to manage Peter Oberacker’s congressional campaign in upstate New York — was dropped from the team. A campaign spokesperson confirmed that Walker would no longer be hired due to his “outrageous commentary” in the Telegram group.

Nazi Ideology Inside the Trump Network

The scandal’s impact widened when Paul Ingrassia, nominated to lead the Office of the Special Counsel under Trump, was found expressing admiration for Hitler and supporting racist ideology in the same chat. After the leak, he withdrew from the nomination process but remained the White House liaison to the Department of Homeland Security.

In a message posted on X (formerly Twitter), Ingrassia announced, “I will be withdrawing myself from Thursday’s HSGAC hearing to lead the Office of Special Counsel because unfortunately I do not have enough Republican votes at this time.”

But what followed was even more disturbing. He called for abolishing the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday, writing that “MLK Jr/s was the 1960s George Floyd and his holiday should be tossed into the seventh circle of hell where it belongs.”

In another exchange, one user remarked, “Paul belongs in the Hitler Youth with Ubergruppenfuhrer Steve Bannon.” Ingrassia responded casually, “I do have a Nazi streak in me from time to time, I will admit it.” He also made a racist comment about Indian-American Republican leader Vivek Ramaswamy, writing, “Never trust a Chinaman or Indian. NEVER.”

Embracing the Symbols of Hate

The group’s fascination with fascist symbolism was blatant. In one chat, a participant proposed releasing “pro Nazi and faciam [sic] propaganda.” To this, Rachel Hope, the Arizona Young Republicans events chair, excitedly replied, “Omg I love this plan.”

When a member staying in a hotel teased the group with “GUESS WHAT ROOM WE’RE IN,” Dwyer replied “1488” — a chilling code among white supremacists. The number 14 refers to the white nationalist slogan “We must secure the existence of our people and a future for white children,” while 88 represents “Heil Hitler.” In another post, Giunta openly stated, “Great. I love Hitler.”

Their misogyny was no less shocking. During another vile conversation, Mosiman commented, “The Spanish came to America and had sex with every single woman.” Dwyer replied, “Sex is gay,” to which Mosiman responded, “Sex? It was rape.” Walker then added the final word — “Epic.”

The recent Young Republicans Telegram leak has revealed not only racism against Black Americans but also a torrent of anti-Asian, anti-Indian, and antisemitic hatred within the party’s youth circles. Among the exposed messages were multiple slurs directed at Chinese Americans, including “Ch—ks” and “Keep the ch—ks, though.” These remarks were part of a disturbing trend where racial prejudice was treated as casual banter.

In addition to the anti-Asian abuse, the group’s members showed blatant antisemitism. Peter Giunta, who led the New York State Young Republicans, went on a vile tirade against several states whose Young Republican chapters supported or leaned toward Hayden Padgett’s faction. Giunta wrote, “Minnesota – f—-ts. Arkansas – inbred cow fuckers Nebraska – revolt in our favor; blocked their bind and have a majority of their delegates Maryland – fat stinky Jew … Rhode Island – traitorous c—s who I will eradicate from the face of this planet.”

The tone of these exchanges exposed the deep rot within the organization. Homophobic remarks were also rampant. “RAPE HAYDEN,” wrote Luke Mosiman, Arizona Young Republicans Chair, referring to Padgett in a shockingly violent insult.

Following the revelations, Giunta issued an apology, but the damage was irreversible. He was removed from his role as chief of staff to a New York state assemblyman. The political fallout extended further, with Samuel Douglass, the Vermont state senator who made racist remarks in the same chat group, tendering his resignation. “I must resign. I know that this decision will upset many, and delight others, but in this political climate I must keep my family safe. If my governor asks me to do something, I will act, because I believe in what he’s trying to do,” Douglass said in his statement.

The scandal has rocked both Republican and Democratic circles. The Kansas Young Republicans Organization was disbanded after leaders were caught repeatedly using the “N—a” word in the Telegram chat. Meanwhile, Ed Cox, New York Republican Party chair, condemned the group, stating that it was “already grossly mismanaged, and vile language of the sort made in the group chat has no place in our party or its subsidiary organizations.”

The Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus also weighed in, describing the leaked exchanges as part of a “vile tirade” that spared “no community.” Following the outrage, the New York Republican State Committee formally voted to expel the Young Republicans group altogether.

Racism Against Indians and Hindus — A Bipartisan Blot

The Telegram leak is a reminder that racism against Asians, Indians, and especially Hindus is not limited to one political party. While both Republicans and Democrats frequently talk about diversity and inclusion, racial prejudice often surfaces in private conversations, jokes, and even policymaking.

Racism and xenophobia have long haunted US politics, but they have seen an alarming rise since Donald Trump’s presidential campaign. His tenure normalized open hostility toward minorities, creating an environment where anti-Indian and anti-Hindu sentiments have flourished.

Last year, JD Vance’s wife, Usha Chilukuri Vance, a Hindu and daughter of Indian immigrants, was subjected to vicious Hinduphobic attacks by White Christian supremacists who largely identify as Trump supporters. Similarly, right-wing commentator Ann Coulter told Vivek Ramaswamy on his podcast that she wouldn’t vote for him “because he is an Indian.” During his run for the Republican presidential nomination, Ramaswamy faced repeated questions about his faith in Hinduism. Even Tulsi Gabbard, despite being a former Democratic congresswoman, has been targeted for her Hindu beliefs and Indic heritage.

Democrats, too, have displayed similar prejudice. In 2006, Joe Biden, then a senator from Delaware, told an audience of Indian-Americans, “You cannot go to a 7-Eleven or a Dunkin’ Donuts unless you have a slight Indian accent. I’m not joking.”

The bias extended to official actions. In 2022, the Teaneck Democratic Municipal Committee in New Jersey passed a resolution labeling certain Hindu organizations as “dangerous hate groups” and offshoots of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). The motion demanded that the US government classify respected American Hindu organizations — including the Hindu American Foundation (HAF), Vishwa Hindu Parishad of America (VHPA), and SEWA International — as “domestic branches” of “foreign hate groups.”

Republican Hypocrisy and Growing Anti-Hindu Bigotry

The Republican side has been no less hostile. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis described Indian tech workers as a “cottage industry” scam, reinforcing the MAGA narrative that Indians are “job-stealing invaders.” His harsh rhetoric against H-1B visa holders further fueled racist attacks on Indian professionals and Hindu immigrants.

More recently, Alexander Duncan, a Texas GOP official, demanded that a 90-foot idol of Lord Hanuman be removed from public view, calling the revered deity a “false God.” On September 20, Duncan shared a video of the statue at Sri Ashtalakshmi Temple in Sugar Land, Texas, writing, “Why are we allowing a false statue of a false Hindu God to be here in Texas? We are a CHRISTIAN nation!”

Earlier in 2024, White Christian supremacists reignited the H-1B debate after Trump nominated Sriram Krishnan, an American-born Indian, as senior policy advisor for Artificial Intelligence at the White House. What started as online trolling against Sriram quickly became a campaign demonizing Indians and Hindus. Trump eventually caved to the pressure — backtracking on his earlier support for skilled immigration — and imposed a $100,000 fee on new H-1B visa petitions from applicants outside the US. The MAGA wing celebrated this as a victory in its anti-Indian and anti-Hindu crusade.

Institutionalized Bias and Media Complicity

Even beyond politics, American media and academia have reinforced anti-Hindu stereotypes. In a recent example, Trump’s Trade Adviser Peter Navarro vilified India’s Brahmin community on Fox News, accusing them of “profiteering at the expense of the Indian people.” He said, “So, you know, look, Modi’s a great leader… But I don’t understand why he’s getting into bed with Putin and Xi Jinping… when he’s the leader of the biggest democracy in the world. I would simply say to the Indian people. Please, understand what’s going on here. You’ve got Brahmins profiteering at the expense of the Indian people. We need that to stop…”

This aligns with a broader anti-Hindu lobby pushing a “caste discrimination” narrative to vilify Hindus, especially Brahmins. Prominent universities — including Harvard, Colby College, Brown University, and California State University — have added caste to their non-discrimination policies. In 2023, the California State Senate even passed SB-403, banning caste-based discrimination, though it was later vetoed. The notorious 2019 Cisco case, once touted as proof of caste bias, was eventually dismissed after investigators found no wrongdoing.

According to FBI 2020 data, hate crimes against Indian Americans surged by 500 percent in recent years. This alarming statistic reflects how deeply prejudice has seeped into society. Publications such as the New York Times have also been accused of perpetuating anti-Hindu bias, amplifying selective narratives that portray Hindus as oppressors.

Reports by OpIndia have shown how DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) programs in American institutions have normalized hatred toward upper-caste Hindus, especially Brahmins, in ways disturbingly similar to how Nazis demonized Jews.

A Dangerous Future for Indian-Americans

The rising tide of racism and religious intolerance in the US is undeniable. While not all crimes against Indian-Americans stem from religious hatred, the spread of online Hinduphobia continues to embolden extremists. What began with the chant “Indians are taking our jobs” has evolved into open hostility against Hindu culture and beliefs.

When political leaders indulge in racist rhetoric and normalize bigotry, it leaves little room for a safe and respectful future for Indian-Americans and other targeted communities who are persecuted simply for existing.
