"अल्लाहु अकबर": Tragedy at Kingsbury High School as a 13-year-old shouting 'Allahu Akbar' stabs two students, leaving them critical while counter-terror police investigate the shocking classroom attack in North-West London

On the afternoon of Tuesday, February 10th, the usual academic routine at Kingsbury High School in Brent, north-west London, was shattered by a violent disturbance. A 13-year-old boy, who is now in police custody, is alleged to have launched a targeted attack on two other students. The incident has sent shockwaves through the local community, particularly after witnesses reported a chilling detail regarding the moments before the violence ensued. According to reports from the Daily Mail and other outlets, the attacker yelled “Allahu Akbar” before striking his targets.

The victims, young boys aged 12 and 13, suffered serious injuries during the altercation. The gravity of the situation prompted an immediate and massive response from emergency services. Law enforcement authorities have confirmed that the investigation is being spearheaded by counter-terrorism officers, a decision made due to the specific nature of the shout heard during the attack, though police are maintaining an open mind regarding the motive.
The attack reportedly occurred within the confines of a science classroom on the school's Bacon Lane campus. Eyewitness accounts paint a picture of sudden panic. It is believed the suspect may have bypassed normal security measures to enter the premises. As per parent Simon Theodorou, who spoke to the Telegraph, the attacker “managed to get his way in by climbing over a wall”.
Once inside, the situation deteriorated rapidly. Reports indicate that the assailant may have used pepper spray in the classroom, creating confusion and making escape difficult for the terrified students. In a brave attempt to save others, one of the victims reportedly tried to trigger the fire alarm to alert the rest of the school. Mr. Theodorou noted that this student “pulled the fire alarm to get help”, describing the young boy as “a hero” for his quick thinking under duress.
Emergency Response and Condition of the Victims
The London Ambulance Service (LAS) was summoned to the scene at precisely 12:41 pm. The medical response was substantial, reflecting the severity of the injuries sustained. A spokesperson for the LAS provided a detailed account of their deployment: “We sent resources to the scene, including ambulance crews, incident response officers, an advanced paramedic, a paramedic from our tactical response unit and a clinical team manager. We also dispatched a trauma team in a car from London’s Air Ambulance. We treated two patients in total. We took one patient to the hospital and the other as a priority to a major trauma centre.”
Currently, both victims remain in critical condition, fighting for their lives. The community waits with bated breath for updates on their recovery.

Police Launch Manhunt and Secure Arrest
Following the attack, the suspect fled the school grounds, sparking an urgent manhunt. The police response was swift and effective. Detective Chief Superintendent Luke Williams provided insight into the police operations, stating, “The suspect, who we believe to be 13, left the scene following the stabbing.”
Officers immediately began a search of the surrounding area. “After urgent inquiries, our officers arrested him and also recovered a weapon which we believe to have been used in the stabbing,” Williams confirmed. The boy was apprehended later that afternoon and remains in custody. Williams clarified the grounds of the detention: “The suspect was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and remains in custody for questioning by our officers.”Investigation Led by Counter-Terrorism Units
While the incident has not been officially declared a terrorist attack, the specific circumstances—notably the reported slogan shouted by the attacker—have necessitated the involvement of specialized units. Detective Chief Superintendent Williams addressed this development with care, noting the balance the police must strike during the early stages of inquiry.
“This is a fast-moving and developing investigation. At this very early stage, we are keeping an open mind as to any motivation behind this attack. However, due to the surrounding circumstances, the investigation is now being led by officers from Counter Terrorism Policing London, who are working closely with our local officers in response to this incident,” Williams explained.
He further acknowledged the anxiety this event would generate: “I absolutely recognise that this incident will cause considerable concern among the local community, students and parents. Our officers will remain in the area to offer support and answer any questions.”
Williams reiterated that they are still gathering facts. “The investigation has not currently been declared a terrorist incident, and the investigation team will now be working at pace to gather any evidence and to establish the full circumstances of what’s happened as quickly as possible,” the official added. It is understood that forensic teams are currently examining the suspect’s electronic devices and reviewing dozens of witness statements to build a clear picture of the events.

School in Lockdown: Trauma and Aftermath
For the students and staff at Kingsbury High School, the day was one of terror. The campus was placed under immediate lockdown while emergency teams worked. In a statement, the school administration sought to reassure parents while acknowledging the severity of the event.
“We want to make you aware that there has been a serious incident at Kingsbury High School today. We are working closely with the relevant authorities and following all necessary procedures. The situation is now under control, and we have already spoken directly with the parents and carers of the students involved,” the institution stated.
The lockdown meant that movement in and out of the school was restricted for hours. “At present, it is not possible to enter or leave the school site while the response continues. We will provide further updates as soon as we can share confirmed information,” the school expressed during the unfolding crisis.
By the evening, the emotional toll was visible. Police officers spoke to students in one of the school halls more than three hours after classes usually end. Many children were seen leaving the premises in tears, reunited with worried parents. A father of one pupil commented that the children were “traumatised by what happened in front of them”.
Alex Thomas, the head teacher, addressed the community in a letter, describing the attack as “a deeply traumatic event for the whole school community”. He wrote with empathy, stating: “I fully appreciate that this will be very upsetting news to hear and, as you can imagine, this has been a deeply traumatic event for the whole school community.”
Mr. Thomas continued, “The situation is under control, but a live investigation is taking place. We are working closely with the authorities and I will provide further updates as soon as I am able to share confirmed information. Please keep the students and their families in your thoughts.”
As a result of the incident, the Lower School remained closed on Wednesday, while the Upper School remained open for older students in Years 10 through 13.

Reactions from Political Leaders and Officials
The brutality of the attack has drawn responses from high-ranking officials and politicians, all expressing their horror and support for the victims.
Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood expressed her deep sorrow on social media platform X: “A shocking attack at Kingsbury High School, where two children have been stabbed. My thoughts and my prayers are with them, their families and all those affected.”
Similarly, Education Secretary Bridget Phillipson stated she was “heartbroken” by the news. Harrow East MP Bob Blackman also weighed in, saying he was “deeply shocked and saddened to hear the dreadful news”. He added, “I know this will shock our local community, and I am in close contact with the police and will continue to seek updates as they work to keep everyone safe.”
Brent Council leader Muhammed Butt praised the emergency teams: “This is a deeply shocking and distressing incident, and our thoughts and prayers are with those who have been injured, their families and the whole school community.”
The Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, emphasized the need for community cooperation. He asserted, “There is no honour in staying silent,” urging witnesses to come forward.
Discussions on School Safety Measures
The incident has reignited conversations regarding safety equipment in schools. In 2023, Mayor Sadiq Khan had mentioned that metal detectors would be made available to schools to help curb knife crime. However, the current government stance appears to differ regarding mandatory implementation.
On Wednesday, Schools Minister Georgia Gould spoke to BBC Breakfast, clarifying the government's position. When asked about knife arches (walk-through metal detectors), she noted: “But we are taking action on knife violence and in a whole range of ways, in terms of training, in terms of investment, in terms of support for young people.” She confirmed that mandatory installation was not currently being looked into.
Kingsbury High School is a significant institution in the area, serving children aged 11 to 18 across two sites. It boasts a list of notable alumni, including singer George Michael, jazz musician Courtney Pine, writer Ekow Eshun, and Floyd Steadman, the first black captain of the Saracens rugby team. Today, however, the focus remains on the healing of its current students and the recovery of the two young boys in the hospital.
