Odisha Train Tragedy: Jr. Signal Engineer Absconding After CBI Interrogation, South Eastern Railways Refutes 'Missing' Claims

The Odisha train tragedy, which claimed the lives of 289 people, has taken a new turn when junior engineer (JE) Amir Khan following his interrogation by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) disappeared. The CBI, responsible for investigating the incident sealed Khan's rented house as part of its ongoing probe into the tragic event. Meanwhile, South Eastern Railways has refuted claims of Khan's disappearance, stating that the entire staff, including Khan, is cooperating with the inquiry.

Amir Khan, a crucial figure in the investigation, was subjected to intense questioning by the CBI at an undisclosed location. However, when the agency officials arrived at Khan's rented house in Soro, they were met with locked doors and an empty residence, as Khan's entire family was missing. In response to this development, the CBI decided to seal the house, assigning two officials to maintain a close watch over it.

The investigation into the Odisha train tragedy has taken a significant turn with the discovery of the missing junior engineer (JE) Amir Khan on June 20. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) located Khan and immediately commenced their questioning regarding the train accident. This development marks an important milestone in the ongoing investigation.

Prior to locating Khan, the CBI had sealed his rented house on June 19. A team from the CBI arrived at Khan's residence, situated near Annapurna Rice Mill in Soro municipality, Balasore district, Odisha. To their surprise, they found the house locked and Khan, along with his family, missing.

Before the CBI officials reached Khan's residence, they had already interrogated him regarding the train tragedy at an undisclosed location. However, following their successful locating of Khan, the CBI initiated another round of questioning specifically related to the incident. This step underscores the seriousness with which the CBI is pursuing the investigation, leaving no stone unturned in their search for the truth.

The CBI's involvement in the case signifies the complexity and gravity of the train accident in Odisha. Their dedicated efforts to gather information and interview key individuals, such as Amir Khan, demonstrate the meticulous approach being taken to unravel the circumstances surrounding the tragedy. The investigation aims to uncover any potential negligence, deliberate interference, or other factors that may have contributed to the incident.

Signal JEs, like Amir Khan, hold significant responsibilities within the Indian Railways. They are entrusted with the installation, maintenance, and repair of signalling equipment, which includes managing signals, track circuits, point machines, and interlocking systems. These systems are vital for ensuring the smooth functioning and safe operation of trains.

Railway officials have made it clear that the Odisha train tragedy was not a result of mere accident or negligence. Instead, they suspect deliberate interference with the electronic interlocking system, which controls the movement of trains. Rinkesh Roy, the Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) of Khurda, explained that a green signal is only given when all necessary conditions are met. Any minor issue would cause the signal to turn red, making it impossible for it to switch to green without tampering or physical intervention.

Following the incident, the CBI took over the investigation on June 6, assuming responsibility for conducting a thorough inquiry into the train accident in Balasore, Odisha. To aid in their investigation, the agency had already initiated a First Information Report (FIR) related to the incident. Given the specialized nature of railway-related matters, the CBI may seek the assistance of railway security and forensic specialists to uncover the truth behind the tragedy.

Among the aspects being investigated is the potential involvement of five railway employees, including the station master at Bahanaga Bazar. These individuals will face intense scrutiny as part of the efforts to determine their level of responsibility and to hold accountable those who may have played a role in the tragic train accident. The CBI's aim is to shed light on the circumstances surrounding the incident and ensure that justice is served.

As the investigation unfolds, the focus remains on uncovering any evidence of deliberate tampering with the electronic interlocking system. The sealing of Amir Khan's rented house serves as a precautionary measure to preserve any potential clues that may aid in the investigation. With the entire staff, including Khan, cooperating with the inquiry, the authorities hope to piece together the puzzle and bring those responsible to justice.

The tragic Odisha train accident has not only caused immense loss of life but has also highlighted the importance of maintaining the integrity and safety of railway systems. By addressing the alleged deliberate interference and taking appropriate measures to prevent such incidents in the future, the Indian Railways and investigative agencies aim to restore public confidence in the railway infrastructure and ensure the well-being of passengers.

The train accident in Odisha has had a profound impact on the community, claiming numerous lives and causing widespread concern about the safety and security of the railway system. The CBI's actions, including the sealing of Khan's house and the intensified questioning, reflect the urgency and determination to ascertain the truth and hold accountable those responsible for the tragedy.

As the investigation continues, it is crucial to maintain transparency and ensure that all aspects of the incident are thoroughly examined. The CBI's focus on Khan, as a junior engineer responsible for the signaling system, suggests that they are exploring potential links between his role and the train accident. By delving deeper into his involvement, the authorities hope to shed light on any lapses in protocol, negligence, or deliberate acts that may have contributed to the tragedy.

The CBI's relentless pursuit of justice instills confidence in the investigative process and reassures the public that thorough and impartial scrutiny is being carried out. The discovery and subsequent questioning of Amir Khan signify a significant breakthrough in the case. As the CBI continues to gather evidence, analyze data, and interview witnesses, they are steadily piecing together the puzzle of the Odisha train tragedy, inching closer to a comprehensive understanding of the events that unfolded on that fateful day.
