The villagers claimed that two women were brutally raped and murdered by the security forces, a claim that was later proven to be baseless.

The police, in their press release on May 30, stated, "Post-mortem conducted revealed no marks on the dead bodies including private parts."

She confessed that she had not taken any swabs from the victims. This revelation was further confirmed when testing by the Central Forensic Laboratory proved that the samples submitted after the post-mortem did not match the victims.

On June 7, 2009, the Jammu and Kashmir police filed an FIR of rape and murder following widespread protests across the state.
