In a profound Ghar Wapsi event in Uttar Pradesh, Dr. Sajid changed into Satbir Singh Rana, embracing Hinduism before Ramzan 2024; childhood admiration for Sanatana Dharm, suppressed by family duties, finally finds expression in a bold return to his roots

In a significant event that unfolded in Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh, on March 11, just before the commencement of the Ramzan festival, a notable change took place in the life of Dr. Sajid, a resident of Nakur Kotwali, Saharanpur. Dr. Sajid made a profound decision to leave behind his Islamic faith and embrace Sanatana Dharma, adopting a new identity as Satbir Singh Rana. This transition is not just a change of name but marks a significant shift in his religious beliefs and lifestyle.
Dr. Sajid's journey towards this transformation has been unique. He tied the knot with Anita, a Hindu woman, four years ago, which laid the foundation for a blend of cultural and religious influences in their family life. Reports suggest that Anita played a pivotal role in encouraging Dr. Sajid to explore and ultimately adopt Sanatana Dharma. This suggests a story of mutual respect and understanding within their family, transcending the boundaries of religion.
Dr. Sajid himself shared that his affinity for Sanatana Dharma has deep roots, tracing back to his childhood. Despite his longstanding appreciation for Hinduism, familial and societal expectations had previously held him back from making this significant change. However, he expressed a sense of fulfillment and contentment with his decision to finally embrace Hinduism, a choice that aligns with his true beliefs and identity.
The formal conversion process took place in a solemn and traditional manner at Hari Mandir in the Housing Development area of Saharanpur. Dr. Sajid, alongside his wife and child, participated in the sacred rituals of Sanatana Dharma, including the Havan-Yagya, a ritual that signifies purification and renewal. Following these rituals, he was officially recognized and welcomed into the Hindu community with his new name, Satveer Singh Rana.
Dr. Sajid Ahmed, 36, has long been known in his hometown of Dhalapada village in Nakur, Uttar Pradesh, not only for his professional achievements as a BUMS (Bachelor of Unani Medicine and Surgery) doctor but also for his unique personal journey. Practicing his profession within the town, Dr. Sajid has navigated through considerable personal and social challenges, especially following his marriage to Anita Rana, a native of Aligarh.

The union of Dr. Sajid and Anita was founded on love, transcending the boundaries set by their respective religious communities. Dr. Sajid vividly recounted how their love marriage became a point of contention within the Muslim community he belonged to. Critics accused him of abandoning his Islamic faith, and this societal pressure escalated to his relatives disowning him and denying him any claim to family property. Amidst this turmoil, Anita posed a poignant question to her husband, questioning the merit of adhering to a community that refused to accept them. She suggested embracing the Sanatana tradition, a faith that Dr. Sajid had always felt a deep connection with.
The discussion about religious practices was not new to the couple; it had been a topic of conversation even during their wedding planning. Despite their different religious backgrounds, they agreed that their marriage would be conducted according to Hindu norms, a decision made four years ago. This choice was not without its consequences, as Dr. Sajid faced severe criticism from his own family and relatives. However, he remained steadfast in his belief, expressing his love for Hinduism and firmly stating he would never expect Anita to convert to Islam.
Anita's story adds another layer of complexity to their journey. Before meeting Dr. Sajid, she was already a mother of two children and had been previously married. Her work in Hisar brought her into Dr. Sajid's life, and despite the challenges, she decided to marry again, choosing love and a shared future over the constraints of societal norms.
This narrative not only sheds light on Dr. Sajid's professional identity as a respected BUMS doctor but also illuminates the couple's courageous decision to follow their hearts against the tide of societal expectations and religious conventions.
In a deeply symbolic ceremony, witnessed by members of the Bajrang Dal, Dr. Sajid Ahmed, now known as Satbir Singh Rana, made a significant spiritual transition back to Sanatan Dharma. This event was not just a formality but a profound declaration of his reconnection with the religious beliefs of his ancestors. Amidst the rituals and celebrations, Satbir Singh Rana's voice joined in with others, proudly chanting ‘Jai Shri Ram’ slogans, marking his enthusiastic embrace of his newfound Hindu identity.
Satbir Singh Rana shared a touching insight into his personal history during the ceremony. He revealed that his forebears were originally followers of Hinduism before converting to Islam due to various circumstances. This historical backdrop added a layer of depth to his decision to revert to Sanatan Dharma, making it a homecoming of sorts. He expressed sheer joy in reclaiming the faith of his ancestors, a journey of re-discovery that had been on his mind for many years.
The process leading to this pivotal moment was deliberate and introspective. Encouraged by his wife, Anita's suggestion, Satbir sought out Hindu organizations to gain a deeper understanding of the religion that had fascinated him since childhood. He dedicated six months to learning about Sanatan Dharma, exploring its philosophies and practices. "I understood things for 6 months and then accepted Sanatan of my own free will," he stated, underscoring the thoughtful and voluntary nature of his conversion.
Anita, standing by her husband through this transformative journey, reflected on the challenges they faced as a couple due to the Hindu-Muslim divide. Despite being married for four years, she admitted to not knowing much about Islam. However, she expressed happiness and relief that Satbir had chosen to embrace her Hindu faith, which she sees as a harmonious resolution to their religious differences.
The couple is well aware of the potential backlash from the Muslim community due to Satbir's conversion. Anticipating resistance and possibly even threats to their safety, Satbir has publicly acknowledged the likelihood of serious consequences following his decision. In light of these concerns, he has expressed his intention to seek police protection for himself and his family, emphasizing his commitment to their safety amidst the significant changes in their lives.
