"अर्श से फ़र्श तक": Once celebrated as an organic farming advocate on Pasumai Vikatan, Victor James Raja's dramatic fall came after a revealing email to PMO led the CBI to discover his heinous child abuse crimes in Thanjavur, resulting in a life sentence
On the 16th of March, 2023, a significant operation unfolded as the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) apprehended a 35-year-old individual named Victor James Raja. The arrest took place at his home located in Saliyamangalam, a town in the Thanjavur district of Tamil Nadu.
At this juncture, Victor was actively engaged in his research as a scholar at the National Institute of Food Technology, Entrepreneurship, and Management in Thanjavur (NIFTEM-T). His academic pursuits, however, took a backseat following a series of events triggered by his actions. Victor had taken the controversial step of sending emails directly to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), an action that precipitated his subsequent detention. The nature of these emails prompted a swift response from the authorities, leading to his arrest and a detailed interrogation by a special team from the CBI.
The following day, on the 17th of March, 2023, Victor was placed into judicial custody. The specific contents of the emails Victor sent remain undisclosed to the public. Nonetheless, various media outlets reported that the language used in the email was not only offensive but also disparaging and defamatory.
The local community expressed surprise over the allegations against him. Residents of Saliyamangalam, where Victor lived, described him as a regular individual who often communicated with government officials and publicized his academic work online. The locals' perception of Victor was largely positive, as evidenced by their statements to DTNext.
"According to local people, Raja used to write emails to higher officials and also share information on his research on social media platforms. He did not have any past history of being on the wrong side of law, they added," the locals conveyed to DTNext. This narrative painted a picture of a man engaged in his scholarly activities without any prior infractions that would suggest a predisposition to criminal behavior.
However, the situation took a dramatic turn when one particular email, sent to the Prime Minister’s Office, inadvertently led to the unveiling of a deeply troubling aspect of Victor’s past. What seemed like a simple act of communication turned into a pivotal moment. This single 'mistake' not only led to his arrest but also exposed a hidden history of severe sexual offenses that shocked those who knew him.

CBI probe exposed Victor James Raja
During an intensive investigation, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) uncovered disturbing evidence linking Victor James Raja to severe criminal activities. Investigators found images and recordings of child sexual abuse in the database maintained by Interpol. By employing advanced digital forensic tools, the CBI traced these materials back to Raja, revealing his direct involvement.
Further inquiries brought to light that Victor, while ostensibly a 'research scholar,' also provided tutoring services to school-aged children. It was during these sessions that he committed grave offenses. "During the course of his private classes, he sexually abused the children, recorded obscene videos and uploaded them on a particular website for quick money," detailed the investigative report. This alarming revelation exposed not only the abuse but also his attempts to monetize such heinous acts.
The platform where these videos were uploaded is reportedly overseen by an international criminal network. This site is a critical node in a broader illegal operation, with agents across "21 States in India" engaged in uploading child pornography to cater to a hidden market of paid clients.
The impact of Victor's actions was widespread, as evidenced by the large viewership numbers of the videos he uploaded. The CBI's efforts intensified following a tipoff from Interpol, which eventually led to the recovery of multiple devices and incriminating evidence from Victor's home. These findings not only confirmed his participation in these crimes but also highlighted the extensive network supporting such illegal activities globally.
The Indian central agency has disclosed alarming details about Victor James Raja's criminal actions. Victor was found to have sexually abused a 10-year-old child over a period of four years, during which he took and uploaded explicit pictures and videos of the child to his Google account.
The investigation further revealed that Victor coerced a minor boy and girl into engaging in sexual acts with each other and other minors. Moreover, he used threats of public exposure and intimidation tactics to manipulate these children and coerce more victims into his exploitative ring.
In total, the former research scholar abused eight children, ranging in ages from 5 to 18, with the majority being under the age of four. His heinous acts extended to forcing these minors into penetrative sexual acts, recording the abuse, criminally intimidating them, and pushing them to perform sexual activities with him and other minors.

Action against the PhD scholar
In March last year, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) took decisive legal action against Victor James Raja, a PhD scholar implicated in serious criminal activities. He was booked under Section 120 (B) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for criminal conspiracy, along with relevant provisions of the Prevention of Child Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and the Information Technology Act. This initial charge set the stage for a rigorous legal battle due to his involvement in child exploitation.
Two months after the initial charges, in May 2023, the CBI furthered their legal actions by filing a chargesheet against Raja. This chargesheet detailed his criminal activities, including creating, seeking, collecting, browsing, downloading, and distributing material depicting children in sexually explicit acts in electronic form.
The significant breakthrough in the case came after a lengthy period of investigation and legal proceedings. On 9th July, in a press release, the CBI announced that a special court had sentenced Victor James Raja to life imprisonment. The court also imposed a substantial fine of ₹6.54 lakhs, recognizing the severity of his crimes.
In a recent judgment that marks a significant milestone in the fight against child abuse, the court awarded substantial compensation to the victims of Victor James Raja. Each child who suffered abuse at the hands of the accused is to receive ₹4 lakhs, acknowledging the severe impact of his crimes and offering some measure of relief and support to the victims.
"The trial of this case was concluded in a time-bound manner with the assistance of Special POCSO Court, Thanjavur and a total of 34 witnesses were examined/cross-examined and various documents & articles were exhibited," stated the CBI in its press release. This meticulous process highlights the thoroughness with which the judicial system approached the case, ensuring that all evidence was carefully considered and that the voices of all witnesses were heard.
The court's ability to manage such a complex case swiftly and effectively, with the help of the Special POCSO Court in Thanjavur, reflects a significant advancement in the judicial handling of sensitive cases involving child victims. The examination and cross-examination of a total of 34 witnesses, along with the presentation of numerous documents and articles, were critical in painting a comprehensive picture of the accused's activities and ensuring a just verdict.
When Victor James Raja was promoted as ‘organic farmer’
In an unsettling twist to the case of Victor James Raja, it was discovered that prior to his arrest, he had been promoted by the popular Tamil channel Pasumai Vikatan as an ‘organic farmer’ and agriculturist. This promotion occurred in February 2021, well before the heinous nature of his activities was uncovered by law enforcement.
"Victor James Raja hails from Poondithopuk village on the Thanjavur-Ammapet road. An M.Com graduate, he is currently researching for a Doctoral Degree (PhD) on Ecotourism in Tamil Nadu. He is also creating awareness among the farmers about organic farming," was how the caption of a YouTube video by the channel described him. This portrayal showed a man deeply involved in ecological and agricultural advancement, starkly contrasting with the grim reality of his criminal actions.
The case against Victor took a decisive turn when he sent an offensive email to the Prime Minister's Office (PMO), which inadvertently triggered a series of investigations that eventually exposed his criminal activities. Had it not been for this email, the CBI might not have initiated a probe into his actions.
Without this crucial piece of communication, Victor James Raja could very well have continued his illicit activities, remaining a free man and potentially continuing to exploit vulnerable children for financial gain. This incident highlights the complex, often hidden, layers of an individual's public persona versus their private actions.
