"ओ जानेवाले हो सके तो लौट के आना": Ananya, a UKG student at Mount International School, died after falling through a broken bus floor in Aligarh’s Dholna area, sparking massive protests against transport negligence in Uttar Pradesh

In a heartbreaking and preventable tragedy that has shocked the state of Uttar Pradesh, an 8-year-old schoolgirl lost her life on February 28th. The young student was crushed to death after falling through a broken iron sheet in the floor of a moving school bus in Aligarh. This horrific incident has sparked intense outrage among local villagers, who are now pointing fingers at the school management and transport authorities, accusing them of gross negligence.

A Walkthrough of the Tragic Events
The young victim has been identified as Ananya, a UKG student at Mount International School. On that fateful Saturday afternoon, she was heading home after a normal day of classes, accompanied by her elder brother, Golu. The bus, which was reportedly transporting approximately 50 children at the time, was traveling through the Dholna area near Nagla Sadhu. The tragedy unfolded when the vehicle hit a speed breaker.
According to media reports, the impact caused the bus to jolt violently, leading a section of the already damaged floor to give way completely. Ananya slipped through this gaping hole and fell directly into the path of the moving vehicle, where she was crushed under the rear wheel. She died instantly at the scene.
The terror of the moment was captured by the desperate cries of her brother. Upon seeing his sister vanish through the floor, Golu reportedly screamed, “Uncle, stop the bus, my sister has fallen.” When the driver eventually brought the vehicle to a halt, he placed the fatally injured child on a seat, allegedly under the impression she was only hurt. In a disturbing turn of events, he reportedly warned the young boy not to tell anyone what had just happened.
As the floor collapsed, Ananya fell specifically because her seat was positioned directly above the rear wheels. Initial reports suggest the driver was so disconnected from the state of his vehicle that he did not even realize an accident had occurred. Other children sitting near Ananya stated that they immediately raised an alarm. It was only after passersby overtook the bus and alerted the driver that he finally stopped.
The family has leveled serious allegations of negligence against the driver. Ananya’s uncle, Pushpendra, provided a harrowing account of the injuries, stating that the bus wheel passed over her head and chest, crushing them. In addition to these fatal wounds, there were clear marks on her body indicating she had been dragged along the road. The state of the child’s body was described as extremely disturbing.
Further angering the community was the driver’s initial deception. Rather than telling the family the truth, he reportedly phoned Ananya's father and claimed the child had merely suffered some injuries. However, as the gravity of the situation became clear to the locals, the driver attempted to escape. A group of villagers chased the bus for nearly two kilometers before finally apprehending him near the Malsai crossing.
When Ananya, covered in blood, was brought to her father, Ravi, at the scene, the reality of the loss set in. Seeing his daughter dead, Ravi broke down in grief. As the mob of villagers approached, the driver abandoned the bus and tried to run, but he was caught. The bus was left parked diagonally across the Chharra-Kasganj road, leading to a massive traffic jam as tensions boiled over.
Order was eventually restored after CO Chharra Sanjeev Kumar Tomar arrived and assured the public that strict legal action would be taken. Station in-charge Govind Ballabh Sharma confirmed that the bus has been seized and a formal case will be registered once a complaint is processed.
Despite the visible state of the vehicle, school administrator Arvind Yadav claimed that the bus was in good condition and was used daily for student transport. He stated that the floor only broke on that specific Saturday and expressed deep sadness over the student's death.

Official Police Account and Legal Steps
The Kasganj Police released an official statement confirming the events of February 28th, 2026. They noted that the school bus was traveling from Dadon in Aligarh through the Dholna area when the girl fell through the broken floor. Police arrived promptly, seized the vehicle, and sent the body for a postmortem examination.
Media reports indicate that an FIR has already been registered against the school administration following a complaint from Ananya's father. Crucially, the ARTO Enforcement officer revealed that while the bus was registered in the Kasganj district and had received a fitness certificate 11 months ago, its permit and insurance had not been renewed and had expired. Authorities are now moving to cancel the vehicle's registration entirely.
The danger could have been even more widespread. At the time of the accident, several other children were on board. Every day, 7 to 8 children from Gangiri village used this specific bus to reach Mount Dev International School in Bhudhiya Dadon. Ananya’s elder brother Golu, a 9-year-old Class 2 student, witnessed the entire horror. Fortunately, no other child was sharing Ananya’s seat at that moment, or there could have been multiple victims. Uncle Pushpendra reiterated that there were 7–8 children in that section of the bus.
The management of Mount International School has labeled the event an accident, stating, “This is an accident and an inquiry is underway. Beyond this, we cannot say anything at the moment. We express our condolences to the bereaved family.”
Ananya was a resident of the Gangiri police station area. Her father, Ravi, who operates a Jan Seva Kendra at the Gangiri crossing, is now left to pick up the pieces of a shattered family. The household consisted of Ravi, his wife, and their two children. Both Ananya and Golu were daily commuters on that bus.
Additional details from CO Sanjeev Kumar of the Gangiri area confirmed that because the incident technically occurred within the Kasganj district, the legal proceedings and post-mortem are being handled by the authorities there. Ravi Kumar, who also operates a center at the Malsai crossing, had two children—10-year-old Yajat (also identified in reports as a Class 1 student) and 7-year-old Ananya.
On the day of the incident, the driver was dropping off children in the Dholna area first. Around 3 PM, near Birhara village, the tragedy struck. When Yajat (Golu) raised the alarm, the driver stopped and found Ananya still breathing. He reportedly rushed her toward her father at Malsai crossing, but she passed away before they could reach medical help.
The resulting scene was one of chaos. An enraged mob assaulted the driver, vandalized the bus, and blocked the Aligarh–Kasganj road. The CO himself acknowledged that the condition of the bus—which transported 40 children daily—was so poor that it clearly lacked proper fitness. A wider investigation and a crackdown on similar school buses in the region are now expected.
The personal toll is immense. As the Holi festival neared, Ananya’s mother was at home preparing traditional sweets, only to be met with the news of her daughter's death. The family has been plunged into total devastation, and young Yajat has been left speechless and unable to process the loss of his sister.
Outcry from the Community
The anger of the local residents manifested in a significant protest. Villagers blocked the Chharra-Kasganj road for nearly two hours, using the bus itself as a barricade. It took the combined efforts of police from Gangiri, Chharra, and Dadon stations to pacify the crowd with promises of a transparent and stringent investigation.
The child’s body remains under postmortem examination as the probe continues into this avoidable loss of life.
