Ranchi MDS Student Raped at Friend’s Birthday Party

A deeply disturbing incident has emerged from Ranchi, where a 25-year-old student preparing for her Master of Dental Surgery (MDS) was allegedly assaulted after being lured into a vulnerable situation by a trusted friend. The young woman, originally a resident of Jamshedpur who resides in a hostel located within the Bariatu police station limits, was subjected to a harrowing ordeal on the night of April 9. Authorities are now treating the matter with the utmost seriousness, taking comprehensive legal measures to ensure justice is served for the survivor.

Survivor Reports the Traumatic Assault to Authorities at the Hospital

The sequence of events began when the student was invited by a female friend to celebrate her birthday at a flat situated on the fifth floor in the Lalpur area of Ranchi. According to the survivor's account, she only agreed to attend because she was given a specific assurance. "The friend had said that many girls would attend the party," the victim later recounted to the authorities. However, upon arriving at the residence that evening, the reality was starkly different.

Instead of a gathering of young women, she found only five individuals present in the apartment: herself, the hostess, and three young men identified as Sadab, Fawad, and a 22-year-old named Danish. Noting her immediate discomfort, the hostess quickly intervened and reassured the student that "other girls would also arrive." Trusting her friend, the student decided to stay.

As the evening progressed, the group gathered to cut the birthday cake at approximately 8:00 PM. The victim had a slice, but shortly after consuming it, she experienced an unexpected physical reaction. She suddenly felt unusually hungry and began to feel deeply drowsy. It was during this vulnerable moment that Danish approached her and offered her a slice of pizza. Within minutes of eating the food provided by him, her condition rapidly deteriorated. Her vision blurred, and everything started going dark before her eyes.

Seeking a quiet place to recover, the disoriented student went into a nearby bedroom to sit down and rest. Seizing this opportunity, Danish followed her inside and firmly locked the door from the inside. The survivor explicitly noted in her statement that "she told him she was feeling dizzy," making her incapacitated state completely clear. Despite her condition and her vocalized distress, Danish allegedly took advantage of her semi-conscious state and raped her.

Endured Silence for Two Days Before Seeking Medical Attention

The survivor did not regain full consciousness until the following morning. As she woke up and realized the gravity of what had transpired behind the locked door, she was plunged into a state of severe shock. Deeply traumatized and mentally disturbed by the betrayal and the assault, she managed to leave the flat and return to her Bariatu hostel.

The heavy emotional toll forced her into silence. For two agonizing days, she could not bring herself to speak to anyone about the nightmare she had endured. Concurrently, her physical health kept deteriorating rapidly. By April 11, her medical condition had worsened significantly, prompting her foster brother to step in and help transport her to a private hospital in the Lalpur area for urgent medical care.

It was within the safety of the hospital walls that she finally broke her silence. She reached out to a close friend over the phone, narrated the entire traumatic incident, and finally gathered the immense courage needed to involve the authorities. Following proper protocol, the hospital management immediately alerted the Lalpur police about the situation. Officers arrived promptly and recorded the victim’s official statement directly on the spot.

Acting swiftly on the survivor's detailed account, the police formally registered a First Information Report (FIR) on Monday, April 13. The case was filed under the relevant sections of the newly implemented Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. By this time, the prime suspect, Danish, was absconding, having fled the city to evade arrest.

In response, law enforcement deployed a technical surveillance team to track his movements. Their efforts paid off when they traced his location across state lines to West Bengal. On April 14, police officials confirmed that a specialized team from Ranchi successfully apprehended Danish in Bengal. As the prime suspect sits in custody, investigators are now broadening their probe to determine whether the hostess, Sadab, Fawad, or any other individuals present at the flat that evening had prior knowledge of the premeditated crime.
