"आशाएँ खिले दिल की, उम्मीदें हँसे दिल की": Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath urges families to support young talent as Uttar Pradesh builds major sports facilities from local villages to Meerut, helping athletes secure jobs and global medals

In a dedicated effort to foster a robust athletic culture, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has strongly urged parents across the state to actively support and nurture their children’s interest in sports. The Chief Minister emphasized that pursuing athletics does far more than just pave the way toward highly successful careers; it simultaneously serves as a vital safeguard, keeping the youth away from dangerous social evils such as drug abuse.
In his latest direct communication to the public, a letter warmly titled “Yogi Ki Paati”, the Chief Minister laid out a detailed overview of his administration’s aggressive push to revolutionize the state's athletic landscape. The government is actively focusing on constructing top-tier sports infrastructure, upgrading training facilities, and opening up stable employment opportunities for athletes all across Uttar Pradesh. By ensuring that sportspeople receive better facilities, elite coaching, and direct paths to employment, the administration is transforming how athletics are viewed in the region.
Expressing immense pride in the recent breakthroughs achieved by the state's sportspeople, the Chief Minister wrote, “The sports field is a source of pride. The Uttar Pradesh men’s team won 20 medals at the 65th National and International Senior Athletics Championships, becoming champions for the first time. Just before this, the contribution of five players from Uttar Pradesh to the Indian team that won the gold medal at the Men’s Under-18 Hockey Asia Cup in Japan was also a matter of pride for the state.”
To illustrate this shifting tide, Yogi Adityanath shone a spotlight on several remarkable sportspersons hailing from Uttar Pradesh who have earned widespread recognition and brought immense honor to the state. Among the standout talents, he specifically celebrated the achievements of cricketer Divit Sharma, Paralympic high jumper Praveen Kumar, star javelin thrower Annu Rani, exceptionally talented visually impaired sprinter Simran Sharma, and brilliant chess Grandmaster Vantika Agrawal. Each of these individuals serves as a powerful example of the state’s rapidly growing and diverse pool of sporting talent.
Delving into their journeys, he pointed out that Simran Sharma was systematically identified and rigorously trained right in Lucknow before she proudly went on to represent India globally. Similarly, he noted how Vantika Agrawal continues to think steps ahead, making the entire country proud on the international chess stage.

‘Greatness Takes Time’
Shifting focus to the long-term roadmap laid out by his administration, the Chief Minister made it clear that achieving true sporting excellence is a marathon, not a sprint. It cannot be accomplished overnight and demands unwavering, sustained investments in modern infrastructure, high-quality coaching, and strong policy support.
Underscoring this systemic overhaul, the Chief Minister wrote, “Champions aren’t made in a day, and sports culture isn’t created overnight. Sports policies have been changed, along with skill development, training, and increased facilities for athletes in the state. Various competitions are now not just sports for the youth of Uttar Pradesh, but a means to reach platforms like the Olympics. The state government is providing government jobs to outstanding athletes to ensure their respect and a secure future.”
The physical transformation of the state's sporting landscape is already unfolding rapidly on the ground. He added, “Today, sports grounds are being developed in every gram panchayat, mini stadiums in blocks, and modern stadiums in every district. The Major Dhyan Chand Sports University is ready in Meerut. Sports colleges and centres of excellence will be established in every division, where athletes will receive world-class training, modern facilities, and expert guidance.”

‘Never Suppress Children’s Sporting Talent’: A Direct Appeal to Families
A central pillar of Yogi Adityanath's message was a deeply personal appeal directed straight at parents and guardians, asking them to never discourage or hold back their children's natural athletic inclinations.
“I especially request parents not to suppress their children’s talent in sports. Sports do not only help win medals; they are also the strongest shield to keep children and young people away from harmful habits like drug addiction,” he stated firmly.
He further explained that the playing field acts as a classroom for life, teaching young minds crucial core values. Beyond physical fitness, sports instill excellent health habits, the essence of teamwork, sharp discipline, unyielding dedication, mutual respect, a positive mindset, social harmony, and the mental toughness required to overcome life's various hurdles.
Concluding his extensive address, the Chief Minister issued an open invitation to children and young adults across Uttar Pradesh to integrate physical games and sports as a regular, non-negotiable part of their daily routines.
“Sports have become a strong career option for today’s youth. The spirit of sports teaches us to move forward together, accept challenges and always strive to perform better next time. These qualities become the foundation of success in life and help build a developed Uttar Pradesh,” he stated, framing athletic spirit as the literal bedrock for both individual success and the collective growth of the state.
