Two innocent school-going children, fell victim to a senseless dispute that ended in the most horrific manner imaginable. Not only were their tender lives mercilessly taken away by the hands of Sajid and Javed, but the depths of their depravity knew no bounds as they drank the blood of their young victims, as whispered among the horrified locals.

On Tuesday, March 19, 2024, in Badaun district of Uttar Pradesh, two minor Hindu children have been murdered by accused Sajid after slitting their throats. A third child also suffered severe injuries on the neck, he is currently being treated at the hospital. Sajid was accompanied by his brother Javed, who is on the run and search for him is underway.

Members of Hindu organisations, along with the relatives of the deceased, gathered at the police station in protest after the murders. The victim’s family members say that the throats of the deceased children were slit by the accused Sajid. The family members have said that the accused even drank blood of the victims after murdering them.

The accused Sajid and Javed run a salon. One of the accused Sajid has been killed in an encounter with police after the murders. A large number of police and paramilitary personnel have been deployed at the location to maintain law and order.

This incident is being reported from Civil Lines area of Badaun. Vinod’s family lives on the third floor of a house in Baba Colony here. Vinod’s wife worked in a beauty parlor. Vinod works as a water tank contractor in Ghazipur. The couple was not at home at the time of the incident. Their three children were present at home. Sajid reached their house at 6 pm on Tuesday evening. He took the children inside the house on the pretext of feeding them something. After locking them inside a room, he slit the necks of all the children one by one using a razor.

The deceased children are 14-year-old Ayush and 6-year-old Honey. Javed also tried to slit the neck of the third child in the house, however, he somehow freed himself and ran away. The injured child is undergoing treatment in the hospital. Hearing the screams of the children, people started gathering at the spot. Seeing the gathering of people, Javed ran away.

The family members have said that Sajid even drank the blood of the children after murdering them. IG Range has said that a proper investigation will be conducted about the allegations.

Police started searching for the absconding accused after being notified of the crime. Ultimately, Sajid was caught by the police. Sajid attacked the police and tried to escape, after which he was killed in an encounter. Along with Sajid, another youth named Javed is also reportedly involved in this crime. Angered by the murders, people vandalised a salon in the city, which apparently belonged to Sajid.

Paramilitary forces have been deployed to handle the situation and maintain law and order.

After a 22-year-old salon owner killed two children in Uttar Pradesh’s Badaun on March 19, their surviving brother– the eyewitness of the horrific incident– narrated the chilling details of the double murder case. Theincident that took place at Baba Colony under the Mandi Samiti police station on Tuesday night, has sparked tension in the city after locals set the barber’s shop on fire.

“The man from the salon had come here. He took my brothers upstairs, I don’t know why he killed them. He tried to attack me too, but I pushed away his knife, pushed him away and ran down. I suffered injuries in my hand and head…Two people (accused) had come here,” news agencyANIquoted Yuvraj, the surviving brother, as saying.

About two hours after the Badaun murders, Sajid was killed in an alleged police encounter. UP director general of police (DGP) Prashant Kumar said the accused was shot dead when he opened fire on the police team pursuing him,The Indian Expressreported.

Who was Sajid?

• The accused has been identified as Sajid, 22.
• Sajid’s shop is located near the boys’ residence in Baba Colony, Civil Line police station area, in Badaun, the newspaper reported.
• The victims' father, Vinod Singh, is a contractor, while their mother, Sangeeta, has a beauty parlour.
• Badaun SSP Alok Priyadarshi said the accused Sajid entered the house around 7:30pm.
• At the time, Vinod Singh had reportedly gone to the market, while his wife was at her beauty parlour. The boys were at home with their paternal grandmother, police said.
• The Indian Express, citing the police, said when Vinod Singh’s mother went to make tea, Sajid went to the third floor of the house, where the two boys were playing with their brother, Piyush (8).
• He attacked the boys with a sharp-edged weapon, slitting the throats of the two victims, the report added.
• Piyush, who sustained minor injuries, managed to escape and alerted the rest of the family.
• Alok Priyadarshi said the Police teams swung into action when they got to know that the accused had escaped. The accused fired at the police and was killed in retaliatory fire.
• On the complaint of the father of the deceased, the police registered an FIR against Sajid and his brother Javed.

What FIR claimed

The FIR states, “The accused Sajid told my wife that he wanted money as his wife was about to deliver a child. When she went inside to take money, he said that he was feeling unwell and wanted to go for a walk on the terrace and took my sons (deceased) with him. He also called his brother Javed to the terrace. When my wife returned, she saw Sajid and Javed with a knife in their hands. Sajid also tried to attack my surviving son and he sustained injuries. Both were running away and Sajid told my wife that today he had completed his work.”

Why did Sajid kill the children?

The father of the deceased has said that there were two people involved in the murder and they are still unaware as to why this incident happened.

"I was unaware of the encounter (of the accused). He (the accused) was trying to run away but the police caught him. There were two people. I live outside. We had no interaction with them before. We are unaware as to why this happened," Vinod Singh told ANI.

According to locals, the accused often had disputes with his neighbour Vinod Kumar's family, India Today reported.

The SSP, citing the victim's family, said the accused had demanded₹5,000 from the father of the deceased children. He said the police were now investigating what led to the murder.

Heavy security deployment

Meanwhile, heavy police security was deployed at the Baba Colony located near the Mandi Samiti outpost as locals protested against the ghastly double murder.

Badaun district magistrate (DM) Manoj Kumar said some people got agitated after the incident and they were asked to maintain peace.

As per the police, the area is now peaceful and under the watch of IG Bareilly range RK Singh, ADG Bareilly zone, and Bareilly Divisional Commissioner.

“The incident took place due to personal enmity, and there is no communal angle to it. We are monitoring the situation, and our social media cell is also monitoring it,” a senior police official said.

Uttar Pradesh Director General of Police Prashant Kumar later said there was only one person involved in the attack, Sajid, and no other.

“As per information received at the headquarters, only one person was involved — Sajid,” Kumar said.

Meanwhile, the bodies of both children have been sent for post-mortem and the injured child has been admitted to the district hospital.
