"ममता दीदी": In West Bengal, TMC worker Firoz Khan brutally rapes a married woman at gunpoint for rejecting his advances, inserts a gun into her genitals, and captures assault on video, all while her 4-year-old son watched in terror tied in a gunny bag
In a shocking event that has stirred the community of Karimpur village within the Bolpur area of Birbhum district, a formal police report (FIR) was registered on Wednesday, August 21. This report documents a grave accusation against Firoz Khan, identified as a worker of the Trinamool Congress (TMC), who allegedly committed a violent act against a married woman.

The sequence of events, as outlined in the police complaint lodged at Bolpur police station, began with a distressing act of aggression. Khan, reportedly a local advocate of the TMC, is said to have confronted the woman, making unwanted advances. Upon her refusal, he escalated the situation dramatically by abducting her at gunpoint. He then forcibly took her to his nearby cowshed, a location he chose for its isolation.
At the cowshed, the complaint details that Khan executed a premeditated assault. He restrained the woman by tying her hands and legs, ensuring she could not resist. In this helpless state, she was subjected to a brutal rape, an act that has sent ripples of horror throughout the community.
While Khan has been arrested, the TMC leadership has taken a stance of firm disassociation from the incident, emphasizing that his actions were personal and not politically motivated. They denied any political connections influencing Khan's behavior.
This incident has not only led to an outcry but has also intensified discussions on the safety and security of women in rural areas. The local authorities have been urged to reinforce their efforts in protecting vulnerable individuals and to ensure that justice is served swiftly and effectively.
The situation in Bolpur has taken a grim turn with further details emerging about the horrific assault carried out by Firoz Khan, a worker from the Trinamool Congress. The extent of the violence inflicted upon the victim is deeply unsettling. The accused reportedly subjected the woman to unimaginable torture, including inserting a gun into her genitals and taking pictures during the assault, thereby magnifying the brutality of his actions.
The trauma was witnessed by the victim’s four-year-old son, who had innocently come looking for his mother at the cowshed. Upon finding her in such a horrifying state, he began to cry and shout, a natural reaction of fear and confusion. In a cruel attempt to silence the child, the accused threatened him and forcibly confined him in a gunny bag, an act that further highlights the perpetrator's callousness.

In a distressing recount in a video, the victim detailed the preceding events, revealing that Firoz Khan had been harassing her for several days. He made unwanted advances and even offered her money in exchange for her compliance. When she stood firm and rejected his proposal, Khan escalated the situation by threatening her life, holding a gun to her head. On the day of the incident, while she was fetching water, Khan exploited her vulnerability, abducting her at gunpoint to a secluded area where he committed the rape. Shockingly, she disclosed that Khan also attempted to murder her son by tying him up in a sack.
Following the assault, the woman was left in a state of severe trauma and was subsequently admitted to the Bolpur District Hospital for treatment and recovery. According to police sources, the attack occurred last Saturday when the victim was alone at home. The accused had been persistently harassing her, expressing a disturbing obsession and luring her with money, but she consistently refused. On that fateful Saturday, finding her alone, he seized the moment to assault her.
Reflecting on her ordeal, the woman explained her initial silence, stating, "He used to bother me for a long time. He was greedy for money. He used to scare people by showing them pistols. I went to fetch water that day. He raped me when he was alone. My four-year-old son moved there. Tries to kill him too. After I screamed, he ran away. I could not tell because of the fear of my husband. He went out. I wanted to save my honor. But later I will tell him everything."
Her husband, deeply distressed by the events, shared his perspective: "I do farming work. I was not at home that day. I went to work. He used to harass my wife for a long time. He was greedy for money. My wife wouldn't tell me out of fear. He took the opportunity to go out and raped my wife."
Amidst these harrowing revelations, Trinamool spokesperson Jamshed Ali Khan made a statement distancing the incident from political motivations: "This incident has nothing to do with politics. If anyone has done such an act, the administration will take appropriate action."

According to the police, the victim was hesitant to come forward due to the fear of public shame that often accompanies such traumatic experiences. It was only with her husband's support and encouragement that she found the courage to file a complaint. An FIR was subsequently registered at the Bolpur police station based on both the victim's and her husband’s accounts. The authorities have since been actively searching for Firoz Khan, with investigations officially commencing after recording the couple's statements on Wednesday, August 21.
This heinous incident has ignited a firestorm of public outrage in Bolpur, particularly as it echoes the recent tragic event where a trainee female doctor was murdered at Kolkata’s RG Kar Hospital. The community's alarm over this pattern of violence against women has intensified, demanding more stringent measures to protect them.
The victim has shared that Khan had been menacingly threatening her for a while, coercing her into an illicit relationship, which she steadfastly refused. On the fateful Saturday afternoon, Khan escalated his threats into action by kidnapping the woman at gunpoint. He forcibly took her to his cowshed, where he not only raped her but also inflicted further cruelty by reportedly tying her 4-year-old toddler in a sack during the assault.
In the aftermath of the assault and driven by despair, the victim attempted to take her own life. The police, aware of the gravity of the situation, have been conducting extensive raids at Khan’s residence and other potential hideouts in a bid to apprehend him swiftly.
The community’s response has been one of deep sympathy for the victim and a united call for justice. The ongoing police efforts are closely monitored by local residents and the wider public, all of whom are eager to see effective action taken against such brutal acts of violence. This case, while deeply troubling, has also sparked discussions on improving safety and support systems for women in the region, aiming to prevent future atrocities and ensure that victims feel safe to come forward without fear of stigma or retaliation.
