"Culture is the widening of the mind and of the spirit": Origin of the timepiece AM and PM - Arohanam Martandasaya means the ascension (rise) of the sun, Patanam Martandasaya means the inclination of the sun

Although from the Latin words meridies (midday), ante (before), and post (after), the term ante meridiem (a.m.) means before midday, and post meridiem (p.m.) means after midday. But there is another aspect to it.
|
The terms are from Vedic knowledge (Surya Siddhantareally) and refer to the relative position of the sun from its midday ascension. The Sanskrit term for AM and PM are:
AM = Arohanam Marthandasya – the rise of the Sun
PM = Pathanam Marthandasya – the fall of the Sun
If you trace the etymology of the Latin term meridian (meri + diem), you get the sandhi of two Sanskrit words – madhya dyaus = midday sun = midday.
The Veda take inspiration from the Sun to explain many spiritual concepts, such as the manner in which the Shilpa (scholars who understand the “symphony” of creation) should take inspiration from the Sun (Dyaus Pitar) to “radiate useful knowledge” selflessly so people can live healthy, happy and productive lives [RV 1.89.4].
AM = आरोहनम् मार्तण्डस्य Aarohanam Martandasya
PM = पतनम् मार्तण्डस्य Patanam Martandasya
