President Trump now faces an embarrassing diplomatic disaster as his fragile US-Iran ceasefire quickly crumbles, with the White House rejecting Tehran's 10-point plan and Trump awkwardly excluding Lebanon from the truce

Despite Sharif's optimistic announcement, both President Trump and Prime Minister Netanyahu have now firmly rejected his claims.

Significant rifts emerge in the US-Iran truce, as Washington disputes the 10-point framework published by Tehran, and President Trump insists Lebanon is excluded from the agreement

Serious complications are already beginning to surface regarding the fragile, two-week ceasefire established between the United States and Iran. According to recent statements from the White House, the 10-point proposal that Tehran recently released to the public is noticeably different from the actual framework that was discussed during the initial negotiations. Adding to the tension, President Donald Trump has made it explicitly clear that the current agreement does not provide any coverage or protection for Lebanon.

The ceasefire agreement, which was reportedly brokered with the help of Pakistan and officially announced earlier today, was designed with a clear, primary goal. It was intended to completely halt United States military strikes against Iran. In exchange for this pause in hostilities, Tehran was expected to reopen the crucial Strait of Hormuz to international shipping. To finalize these terms, diplomatic talks were scheduled to begin in Islamabad this coming Friday. Initially, there seemed to be a shared sense of progress. Following the early discussions, President Trump even described Iran’s 10-point plan as a “workable basis on which to negotiate”.

However, the situation shifted dramatically after the announcement. Iran took the step of publishing what it presented to the world as the complete, official 10-point framework. This published list included massive, sweeping demands, such as the total lifting of all economic sanctions, the complete withdrawal of United States military forces from the Middle East region, financial compensation for damages caused by the war, and the formal acceptance of Iran’s controversial uranium enrichment program. The United States quickly rejected this version of the plan. Officials argued that this specific 10-point list was entirely different from what was actually discussed behind closed doors. Speaking to reporters, a senior official from the White House stated that the publicly released points simply “do not match” what President Trump had previously referred to. The official went on to describe the leaked version of the document as being filled with “maximalist demands” that the United States had never agreed to accept.

In a further sign of strain on the new agreement, Donald Trump directly stated that the ceasefire does not extend to the country of Lebanon, where Israeli military forces are still carrying out active combat operations against the militant group Hezbollah. While speaking to a journalist about the ongoing situation, President Trump noted that the conflict between Israel and Lebanon is a “separate skirmish”, explaining that Lebanon was intentionally left out of the ceasefire deal due to the presence of Hezbollah.

When the journalist pressed him and asked whether he actively supports Israel’s continued military operations against Hezbollah, President Trump responded bluntly, stating, “It’s part of the deal – everyone knows that. That’s a separate skirmish.” This stance is firmly supported by America's allies in the region. The office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had already made their own position perfectly clear earlier in the day. They stressed that the current truce strictly applies only to the direct hostilities between the United States and Iran, and it absolutely does not extend to the fighting in Lebanon.

Interestingly, these firm comments from both American and Israeli leadership directly contradict a major announcement made by Pakistan’s Prime Minister, Shehbaz Sharif. In a public post shared on the social media platform X, Prime Minister Sharif proudly declared that Iran, the United States, and their various allies had all come together and agreed to “an immediate ceasefire everywhere including Lebanon and elsewhere, EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY”. In that same enthusiastic post, he officially invited all the negotiating delegations to travel to Islamabad for further peace talks.

Despite Sharif's optimistic announcement, both President Trump and Prime Minister Netanyahu have now firmly rejected his claims. Both leaders clarified that putting an end to Israeli military operations against Hezbollah in Lebanon is simply not a part of the signed ceasefire agreement.

This major discrepancy over the status of Lebanon has naturally heightened global concerns about whether this truce can actually survive. In response, Iran has reportedly informed the mediators working with the US that they will only participate in the upcoming talks in Pakistan if the current ceasefire is expanded to include Lebanon. Officials from Iran declared that their military will continue to launch strikes against neighboring Gulf nations and Israel—and they will keep the Strait of Hormuz firmly shut—if Israel does not immediately end its military operations against Hezbollah inside Lebanon.

Iranian officials have issued stern warnings that they will completely withdraw from the ceasefire agreement if Israel continues its airstrikes on Hezbollah targets. Unfortunately, the violence has only escalated, with Israeli military operations in both Beirut and southern Lebanon intensifying significantly over the past 24 hours.

While a key part of the agreement was that Iran was supposed to open the Strait of Hormuz to allow trade to flow, the exact opposite has occurred in reality. The transit of commercial ships through the vital strait has stopped completely. Confirming this blockade, the Fars News Agency reported that “oil tankers have been suspended from passing through the Strait of Hormuz” as a direct response to the ongoing Israeli military assault in Lebanon. True to their warnings, Iranian missile strikes directed at Gulf nations also continued today, leaving the future of the peace deal highly uncertain.
