"दुनिया बनाने वाले, क्या तेरे मन में समाई ": Haunted by coach Sadhik Khan after her husband was allegedly poisoned in Kakinada, Soujanya and her parents plunged into the Godavari at Rajahmundry, leaving a surviving child as police captured Khan in Meerut

In the quiet hours before dawn along the Godavari River, where dark currents sweep beneath the towering iron lattice of the Rajamahendravaram Road-cum-Railway Bridge, an entire family sought an end to what they described as an inescapable torment. The fatal plunge of a veteran government engineer, his wife, and their widowed daughter sent shockwaves through Andhra Pradesh, leaving behind an orphaned ten-year-old child whose miraculous survival broke open a complex web of alleged murder, extortion, psychological subjugation, and institutional evasion.
What began as an apparent suicide pact on a mid-August night has escalated into an exhaustive, multi-state homicide and extortion investigation centered on Sheikh Sadhik Khan, an ambitious local rifle-shooting instructor who systematically infiltrated the family’s domestic life.

The Judicial Remand and the SIT Forensic Matrix
Sheikh Sadhik Khan—the founder of Kakinada’s PRO Rifle Shooting Academy—remains incarcerated in high-security judicial custody following his formal remand by the Kakinada Special Mobile Judicial First Class Magistrate Court. Kakinada District Superintendent of Police G. Bindu Madhav and Eluru Range Inspector General G.V.G. Ashok Kumar have overseen the formation of a specialized Special Investigation Team (SIT), led by Additional Superintendent of Police Dr. Mahanti Kishore Kumar, to coordinate parallel probes across multiple district jurisdictions.
The state’s legal architecture against Khan is divided across two major police files: the abetment to suicide case in Rajamahendravaram and the active murder inquiry registered at the Sarpavaram police station.
| Investigative Dimension | Jurisdictional Locus | Primary Statutory Provisions | Evidentiary and Forensic Focus |
| Fatal Bridge Plunge | Rajamahendravaram II Town Police Station | Crime No. 143/2026; Section 108 of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS / Sec 306 IPC) | Analysis of three recovered dying declarations, child eyewitness testimony, and scene reconstruction. |
| Jagadeesh Reddy Homicide | Sarpavaram Police Station (Kakinada) | Section 103 of BNS (Sec 302 IPC), Extortion, Intimidation, Forced Conversion | Toxicological reviews of ICU medical charts, chemical procurement trails, and asset transfers. |
| Financial & Digital Dragnet | Inter-District SIT Command (Kakinada / East Godavari) | 12 Comprehensive BNS and Special Enactments | Forensic auditing of bank lockers, land deeds, call detail records (CDR), and cross-state transit logs. |
Investigators are analyzing digital call records, cell-tower telemetry, banking records, locker access logs, and medical archives from private hospitals where the family patriarch and his late son-in-law had been treated. Simultaneously, detectives in East Godavari are preparing a Prisoner Transit (PT) warrant to secure Khan’s custody for extended custodial interrogation regarding the specific sequence of psychological duress that drove three adults into the river.

The Midnight Crossing: The Bridge at Rajamahendravaram
The physical tragedy occurred late on the night of August 16, 2026. Tillapudi Nookaraju, a 61-year-old Assistant Engineer in the Panchayati Raj Department who had spent almost a decade serving in the Pithapuram mandal and was nearing retirement, embarked on an uncharacteristic journey with his family. Traveling inside their family vehicle were Nookaraju, his 59-year-old wife Tillapudi Meena, their 34-year-old widowed daughter Kovvuri Soujanya, and her 10-year-old son, Riyansh Karthikeya Reddy.
Upon reaching the Kovvur stretch near the Godavari River, the family directed their private driver to exit the car, stating that they intended to proceed on their own. Nookaraju then drove the vehicle onto the expansive Road-cum-Railway Bridge connecting Kovvur with Rajamahendravaram.
Stopping the car along the dark span of the bridge, the family left their footwear neatly lined along the walkway. At approximately 11:32 PM, a passing commuter noticed the abandoned car and called the emergency response system, triggering a dispatch to the Rajahmundry II Town Police station at 11:40 PM.
Eyewitness accounts and police reconstructions indicate that Nookaraju and Meena were the first to jump over the guardrail into the river. Soujanya followed immediately, pulling her son Riyansh with her.
As they fell, the ten-year-old boy became snagged on the lower structural grill of the bridge. The steelwork broke his fall before he slipped into the river.
Alerted by emergency sirens from the road deck above, two local fishermen operating wooden boats near the river's central islands navigated toward the splashes and pulled the unconscious child from the water. The boy was transported to a local hospital and survived.
Nookaraju’s body was recovered the following evening around 8:00 PM, while the bodies of Meena and Soujanya were retrieved downstream after an extensive search operation by the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), prompted by directives from Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan.

The Recovered Testimonies: Words Written in the Shadow of Extortion
The initial assumption that the family had taken their lives due to routine economic distress was dismantled when investigators recovered three separate suicide notes.
The first message surfaced digitally on a WhatsApp group composed of Panchayati Raj engineers, transmitted by Nookaraju moments before he reached the bridge. Addressed directly to the Kakinada District Collector and District Superintendent of Police, the note identified Sheikh Sadhik Khan as the sole driver of the family’s decision. Nookaraju wrote that following the sudden death of his son-in-law in July, Khan had entered their household under the guise of an empathetic protector, only to systematically seize their bank accounts, ATM cards, and family gold through threats of physical violence against his daughter and grandson.
A second note, written by Tillapudi Meena and left inside the family vehicle, provided a picture of psychological terror. Meena described Khan as ruthless, stating that her husband’s deteriorating physical health left them unable to resist his intimidation.
She expressed fear that Khan intended to separate her daughter and grandson and sell them into exploitation. Meena noted that she had overheard a phone conversation in which Khan allegedly declared that the family's properties would be entirely under his control once the inheritance titles were formally transferred to Soujanya.
The third note, left by Soujanya in the utility compartment of her scooter in Kakinada, provided the most critical evidence for investigators. Soujanya wrote:
“Harassment by Sadhik Khan was the reason for my death.”
Beyond detailing daily abuse, blackmail, and persistent pressure to convert to Islam, Soujanya accused Khan of killing her husband, Kovvuri Jagadeesh Reddy, by administering a slow chemical poison.

The Death of Jagadeesh Reddy: The Preceding Chemical Mystery
The suicide notes caused investigators to reopen the circumstances surrounding the death of Kovvuri Jagadeesh Reddy, who had died on July 2, 2026, six weeks prior to the bridge tragedy. At the time, his sudden medical decline had been accepted by relatives as an unforeseen illness.
Following the recovery of the dying declarations, Jagadeesh Reddy’s father, Kovvuri Bhaskara Reddy, lodged a formal complaint at the Sarpavaram Police Station. Bhaskara Reddy alleged that statements from his surviving grandson, Riyansh, corroborated the suicide notes, indicating that Khan had poisoned his son.
Acting on this complaint, Kakinada SP G. Bindu Madhav registered a murder case against Khan under Section 103 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
| Investigative Component | Factual Focus & Forensic Measures | Status of Inquiry |
| Mechanism of Death | Examination of alleged chemical poisoning administered prior to July 2, 2026. | SIT seized all medical files, clinical charts, and diagnostic records from treating hospitals for independent toxicology review. |
| Motive and Asset Seizure | Siphoning of substantial insurance payouts, gold jewelry, and prime real estate assets. | Financial intelligence teams are tracing property transfers in Ravulapalem and Kakinada, along with insurance claims. |
| Co-conspirator Probe | Scrutiny of drivers and domestic associates who had physical access to the home. | Secondary suspects and drivers questioned; culpability remains under active evaluation. |
Detectives are reviewing toxicological data with medical experts to determine whether specific chemical agents could have caused organ failure while mimicking natural illness. Investigators are also looking into claims regarding the unauthorized procurement of restricted chemical substances.
Anatomies of Control: From Mentorship to Coercion and Depredation
The family's relationship with Sheikh Sadhik Khan began in 2021 when Khan established the PRO Rifle Shooting Academy near JNTU and Gudarigunta in Kakinada. Presenting himself as an athletic coach with regional connections, Khan offered competitive shooting instruction to children in the area.
Around 2022, Nookaraju and Soujanya enrolled ten-year-old Riyansh in Khan's academy. Khan later secured a coaching role at the child's school, giving him daily access to the boy and his family.
Following Jagadeesh Reddy’s death in July 2026, Khan inserted himself into the family's affairs under the pretense of offering support. Using personal photographs and confidential family documents obtained while helping manage the estate, Khan began blackmailing Soujanya.
According to family members and investigators, Khan systematically took control of the household's assets:
Confiscated ATM cards, checkbooks, and bank locker credentials belonging to Nookaraju and Soujanya.
Demanded the transfer of valuable family properties in Ravulapalem and Kakinada, as well as Jagadeesh Reddy’s insurance proceeds.
Subjected Soujanya to physical abuse, demanded she convert to Islam and marry him, and threatened to harm her son if she refused.
Following his rescue, ten-year-old Riyansh told child welfare officers and detectives about repeated instances of physical abuse and intimidation carried out by Khan inside their residence. Faced with mounting threats and financial devastation, the family drove to Rajamahendravaram to carry out their suicide pact.

The Multi-State Dragnet: The Flight and Capture in Meerut
Immediately following the incident on the bridge and the recovery of the notes on August 17, Khan fled Kakinada. Kakinada District SP G. Bindu Madhav established an operational team of six specialized squads, deploying more than ten field units across Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Delhi, and Uttar Pradesh.
Khan took deliberate measures to avoid detection:
Discarded his primary mobile devices and SIM cards to avoid cellular triangulation.
Avoided using ATM cards or accessing digital banking networks.
Relied on acquaintances within the sports shooting community, claiming he had lost his wallet and phone while traveling.
The SIT utilized electronic intelligence, CCTV pattern matching, and travel corridor tracking to locate Khan in Western Uttar Pradesh. At approximately 9:00 AM on August 22, 2026, an Andhra Pradesh police squad, working alongside local Uttar Pradesh police, arrested Khan near the Nauchandi Police Station in Meerut.
Khan was presented before the Chief Judicial Magistrate Court in Meerut, where investigators secured a transit warrant. He was transported back to Kakinada, processed at the Sarpavaram police station on the night of August 23, and remanded to judicial custody.
Jurisprudential Dimensions: Abetment, Homicide, and Institutional Accountability
The legal case against Sheikh Sadhik Khan involves complex statutory provisions under the newly implemented Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
| Legal Vector | Abetment to Suicide Prosecution | Murder & Coercive Extortion Prosecution |
| Statute | Section 108 of BNS (replacing Section 306 IPC) | Section 103 of BNS (replacing Section 302 IPC) |
| Jurisdiction | Rajamahendravaram II Town Police | Sarpavaram Police Station, Kakinada |
| Evidentiary Burden | Proving continuous duress that left victims with no reasonable alternative. | Proving chemical administration, chain of custody, and forensic causation. |
| Primary Material | Dying declarations, WhatsApp records, child witness statements. | Medical treatment charts, forensic toxicology analyses, asset transfer logs. |
Under Indian criminal law, establishing abetment of suicide requires demonstrating direct instigation or sustained coercion that leaves the victims without an alternative. The recovery of three corroborating suicide notes, supported by the testimony of surviving child Riyansh, provides strong evidentiary backing for the prosecution under Section 32(1) of the Indian Evidence Act (and its equivalent under the Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam).
For the homicide charge under Section 103 BNS, prosecutors must present clear medical and chemical evidence linking Khan to the substance that caused Jagadeesh Reddy's death.
The case has also drawn broader attention across Andhra Pradesh, leading to public demands from state leaders for stricter oversight of private sports academies and stronger protections against predatory extortion.
Aftermath: A Child's Survival and the Demands of Justice
The events on the Godavari Bridge highlight the destructive toll of predatory coercion on a vulnerable family. In Pithapuram, colleagues at the Panchayati Raj Department remember Assistant Engineer Tillapudi Nookaraju as a dedicated public servant whose household was shattered within a matter of months.
Ten-year-old Riyansh Karthikeya Reddy remains under the care of his extended family and child welfare officials. His survival, made possible by the bridge’s iron grill and the rapid response of local fishermen, remains the sole positive outcome of the tragedy.
As the Special Investigation Team completes its forensic and financial inquiries, the judicial process will determine whether the evidence holds Sheikh Sadhik Khan accountable for the destruction of the family.
