In a tragic incident on the evening of May 25, a devastating fire claimed the lives of 27 individuals, including 10 children, at a gaming zone in Rajkot, Gujarat. Rajkot Police Commissioner, Raju Bhargava, has confirmed that 20 bodies have been recovered so far from the site of the inferno at the TRP Gaming Zone.

Officials reported that a massive fire engulfed the gaming facility located in Gujarat's bustling city of Rajkot. "The bodies are completely charred and it is difficult to identify them," stated Assistant Commissioner of Police, Vinayak Patel. Following the incident, authorities have detained the owners of the gaming zone as part of the ongoing investigation into the cause of the fire.

Reflecting on the severity of the incident, Darshita Shah, the MLA from Rajkot West, expressed her deep sorrow. “A very sad incident took place today. This is the first time in Rajkot's history that a fire in a gaming zone has led to the deaths of people, including children. The focus is on rescuing as many as possible. The government will act against people whose negligence led to this tragedy,” she remarked. Additionally, the government has declared a compensation of ₹4 lakh for each of the bereaved families, aiming to provide some relief during this difficult time.

The incident has shocked the local community and prompted an immediate response from state officials, who have ordered a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe into the tragic event and ensure such a disaster does not occur again. The aim is to thoroughly investigate and hold accountable those responsible for any oversights that may have contributed to the catastrophic outcome of the fire.

In the wake of the tragic fire at the TRP Gaming Zone in Rajkot, rescue and recovery efforts are intensively ongoing. Rajkot Police Commissioner Raju Bhargava provided an update on the situation. As quoted by the news agency ANI, Bhargava detailed, “A fire broke out in the TRP gaming zone in the afternoon. Rescue operations are ongoing, the fire is under control, and we are working to recover as many bodies as possible.”

Bhargava further explained the current scope of the recovery efforts, noting, “So far, around 20 bodies have been recovered and sent to the hospital for further investigation. We will conduct investigations. Yuvraj Singh Solanki owns the gaming zone. We will file charges for negligence and the resulting deaths. Further investigation will commence once the rescue operations are completed.” This highlights the police's commitment to uncovering the cause of the fire and ensuring accountability for the tragic event.

In addition to the local response, the incident has drawn national attention. Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his deep sorrow over the incident. On his X account, he posted, “Extremely distressed by the fire mishap in Rajkot. My thoughts are with all those who have lost their loved ones. Prayers for the injured. The local administration is working to provide all possible assistance to those affected.” This message underscores the Prime Minister's empathy and concern for the victims and their families, as well as his assurance of support from the local administration to help those impacted by the tragedy.

The catastrophic fire at the TRP Game Zone in Rajkot occurred in a temporary structure, taking a severe toll on attendees, many of whom were children. The presence of children was notably high due to the ongoing summer vacation, making this incident particularly heartbreaking.

The nation's leaders have expressed their sorrow and concern over the tragedy. "I am deeply anguished to learn of the loss of lives in a fire accident at a gaming zone in Rajkot, Gujarat. My heart goes out to the families who have lost their near and dear ones including young children. I pray to the Almighty for the speedy recovery of those being rescued," stated President Droupadi Murmu. Her words reflect the profound impact the disaster has had on the country and her own sentiments toward the affected families.

Gujarat's Chief Minister, Bhupendra Patel, has been actively involved in the response to the fire. He has ordered officials to ensure that rescue and relief operations are swiftly executed and that medical treatment for the injured is a top priority. "Instructions have been given to the Municipal Corporation and the administration for immediate rescue and relief operations in the fire incident in the game zone in Rajkot. Officials have also been instructed to prioritize arrangements for immediate treatment of the injured," he commented. Additionally, he plans to visit the site personally tomorrow morning to oversee the ongoing efforts and ensure that adequate measures are being taken.

Further identifying the ownership of the site, Rajkot Police Commissioner Raju Bhargava reiterated, "The gaming zone is owned by a person called Yuvraj Singh Solanki." This detail is crucial as investigations continue into the cause of the fire and the subsequent legal and safety implications for the owner and the establishment.

The devastating fire at the TRP Game Zone in Rajkot has left authorities scrambling to determine the cause and manage the aftermath. The incident, which resulted in significant casualties, has prompted a rigorous investigation, as confirmed by various officials involved in the response efforts.

Rajkot Police Commissioner, while discussing the ongoing situation, mentioned, "I cannot ascertain the reason behind the fire. It's a matter of investigation. We will speak to fire brigade officials to discuss what action should be taken." This statement highlights the complexity and the preliminary nature of the investigation, underscoring the challenges faced by the authorities in pinpointing the fire's origin.

An earlier report from a fire officer sheds light on the difficulties encountered during the firefighting efforts. "The reason for the fire is yet to be ascertained. The attempts to douse the fire are underway. We have not received any message of missing persons. We are facing difficulty in the firefighting operation because the temporary structure has collapsed and due to wind velocity," he told ANI. These comments illustrate the physical and environmental hurdles that have complicated the emergency response.

Further complicating the response, the fire officer added, "We will then be able to find out the exact number of casualties inside the zone (after fire is controlled). We will also investigate the cause of the fire, and a message has been issued to all the gaming zones in the city to shut down," indicating proactive measures being taken to prevent further incidents and ensure public safety.

Rajkot Collector Prabhav Joshi provided additional insights into the timeline and immediate response to the emergency. "We had received the call at around 4.30 pm… The temporary structure in the gaming zone had collapsed. The fire was controlled around 2 hours ago. The debris is being removed… We are in constant touch with the CM,” he stated. This communication outlines the sequence of events and the ongoing coordination with higher authorities to manage the crisis effectively.

Meanwhile, the Director-General of Police (DGP) of Gujarat has issued a directive for a thorough inspection of all children’s game zones throughout the state. It was noted that many zones operate without a valid fire No Objection Certificate (NOC) and lack adequate fire safety equipment. As a result, those found non-compliant have been ordered to shut down immediately, especially in light of allegations that the TRP gaming zone lacked a fire NOC.

State Home Minister Harsh Sanghvi conveyed his deep concern and immediate response to the tragedy. “Many families have lost their children in this incident… I am going to Rajkot right now. The Special Investigation Team (SIT) will start its investigation tonight. The administrator and the manager have been arrested. A meeting will take place after visiting the fire spot and the action will start tonight. PM Modi has also taken the details from the CM…Members of the SIT are ordered to reach Rajkot by 3 am… The CM will be provided with the details tonight itself,” he stated. This announcement underscores the urgency and the comprehensive approach being taken by the state government in addressing this disaster.

Separately, another severe incident was reported in Maharashtra, where at least ten people died and over 60 were injured following a fire in an industrial area of Dombivli. This incident, which occurred on Thursday, also led to massive damage in the surrounding area. “Massive plumes of smoke were visible. The explosion was reportedly heard up to 3 kilometers away from the blast site. The impact of the blast was so severe that it shattered window panes of houses and damaged cars, roads, and electric poles in the vicinity,” officials reported. Following the incident, a court in Maharashtra’s Thane district has taken swift legal action against those responsible. Malay Mehta, 38, owner of Amudan Chemicals, was remanded in police custody until May 29 as the investigation continues. The crime branch's Ulhasnagar unit has taken over the investigation, and the police have registered an FIR against the company's owners, directors, management staff, and officials, charging them with culpable homicide, voluntarily causing hurt, and negligent conduct with respect to combustible matter and explosive substances under the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

These incidents highlight the critical need for stringent safety regulations and proactive governance to safeguard public safety and prevent future tragedies.
