Bihar Deputy CM Vijay Sinha says Tejashwi Yadav’s personal secretary linked to NEET UG paper leak case: Details

On 20 June 2024, Bihar Deputy CM Vijay Sinha made a significant announcement, linking the former Deputy CM and RJD leader, Tejashwi Yadav, to the NEET-UG paper leak case. During a press conference, Sinha explicitly stated that a room in a government guest house was provided to Sikandar Kumar Yadavendu, an accused in the NEET UG paper leak case, at the request of Pritam Kumar, who is the personal secretary to Tejashwi Yadav. Additionally, Sikandar Yadavendu, along with three others, has been arrested in connection with this case.

Vijay Sinha detailed the booking process during the presser, noting that on the evening of May 1, Pritam Kumar contacted Pradip Kumar, a guesthouse employee, requesting a room booking for Sikandar Kumar Yadavendu at the NHAI guest house. However, Pradip Kumar did not make any reservations on that day. It wasn't until May 4 that Pradip Kumar received another call to secure a room, which he then arranged by sending a WhatsApp message to the concerned person.

This detailed account from Deputy CM Vijay Sinha suggests a direct link between Tejashwi Yadav's office and the individuals implicated in the NEET UG paper leak, raising questions about the use of government resources and the integrity of the involved parties.

Vijay Sinha disclosed during the press conference that the term "Mantri Ji" was specifically used to refer to Tejashwi Yadav in communications related to the case. He emphasized the need for clarity from the RJD about the ongoing role of Pritam Kumar, questioning, "The RJD should clarify who Pritam Kumar is and is he still linked to Tejashwi Yadav?" This call for transparency highlights concerns about the connections between Tejashwi Yadav’s office and the individuals involved in the NEET-UG paper leak.

Furthermore, Sinha provided more details about the individuals involved, "Sikandar Yadavendu is a close relative of Tejashwi Yadav’s PS Pritam Kumar. An NHAI guest house was booked for Sikandar’s sister Reena Yadav and son Anurag Yadav on May 4. A phone number and ‘Mantri Ji’ were mentioned in the NHAI guest house’s diary," he noted. These details indicate a deeper network of relationships potentially influencing the use of government resources.

In his role as the minister of road construction, Sinha has taken proactive steps towards addressing this issue internally, "I am conducting a thorough investigation in my department to identify officers or employees working at the behest of Tejashwi Yadav," he declared. Sinha’s comments also shed light on his view of the RJD's operations, stating, "The entire RJD system is based on crime and corruption," thus accusing the party of systematic misconduct.

In a twist to the ongoing NEET-UG paper leak scandal involving Bihar politicians, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has issued a statement contradicting earlier claims made about the usage of their facilities. On their official X account, NHAI posted a "Factcheck tweet" clarifying, “Some sections of the media have reported that accused related to NEET paper leak case stayed at #NHAI guest house in Patna. NHAI clarifies that it does not have any guest house facility in Patna.” This denial raises questions about the earlier statements regarding the booking of a room in an NHAI guest house for the accused.

Adding to the complexity of the case, Sikandar Kumar Yadavendu, who is currently accused in the Bihar NEET-UG paper leak, seems to be closely connected to the events leading to the arrest of his nephew, Anurag Yadav. The Bihar police arrested Anurag Yadav, who later provided a "written confession" admitting that he and several other candidates were pre-exposed to the NEET question paper. According to his confession, they were instructed to "memorise the question paper and answers" in a hotel room, and shockingly, the question paper in the actual NEET exam was identical to what was shown to them.

Furthermore, on the day of the exam, 5 May, another significant development occurred when Anurag Yadav's mother, Reena Yadav, was arrested at the guest house. During her arrest, an OMR sheet was recovered, adding substantial evidence to the case. The guest house register reportedly had entries with Anurag's name along with the notation "‘Mantri Ji’", linking back to the earlier mentions of this mysterious figure in the controversy.

This sequence of events not only implicates several individuals directly related to the Yadav family but also brings into question the integrity of the administrative processes that allowed such a breach.

Sikandar Kumar Yadavendu's history with legal troubles extends beyond the current NEET UG paper leak scandal. He was previously embroiled in a financial controversy involving a significant sum, being implicated in a Rs 3 crore LED scam, which resulted in him serving time in prison. Before his involvement in this scandal, Sikandar had a varied career, starting as a contractor and eventually becoming a junior engineer in 2012.

The NEET UG paper leak case has led to several arrests, shedding light on a network of individuals allegedly involved in undermining the integrity of competitive examinations. To date, "four persons have been arrested in Bihar in connection to the NEET UG paper case so far, Anurag Yadav, Nitish Kumar, Amit Anand, and Sikandar Yadavendu." Among them, Amit Anand has been identified as the purported ringleader of this operation.

According to the investigation, Amit Anand admitted his role in the scandal. He reportedly had a conversation with Sikandar, during which he boasted about his ability to procure examination papers. "He had approached Sikandar claiming that he could leak papers of any competitive exam," and in response, "Sikandar had asked him for papers of NEET UG saying he has 4 candidates." The financial transactions involved were substantial, as "Amit Kumar quoted the price of ₹30-32 lakh for each aspirant for NEET papers."

Following Amit Anand's instructions, Sikandar brought four candidates to a hotel room, where they were given the examination paper to memorize. This detail highlights the methodical approach taken to exploit the examination process.

The case took an intriguing turn when the National Testing Agency (NTA) and the union education minister stated that after adjusting scores due to the grace marks given for lost time during the exam, the controversy was resolved, declaring the allegations of a paper leak to be unfounded. This stance aimed to close the case and restore confidence in the exam's integrity.

However, the subsequent events painted a different picture. The arrest of several individuals from multiple states, including Bihar and Uttar Pradesh, and their confessions indicated that the initial declarations dismissing the paper leak may have been premature. These developments suggest a broader issue, hinting at a possible network involved in compromising the fairness of competitive exams. This contradicts the earlier reassurances by educational authorities, indicating that the issue may be more extensive than previously acknowledged. As the investigation unfolds, it continues to reveal the complexities and depth of the corruption involved, challenging the initial conclusions drawn by officials and calling for a deeper examination of the security measures in place for competitive exams.
