Shocking CCTV footage captures the brutal murder of 22-year-old Kriti Kumari in a Bengaluru PG; after a tense manhunt, the perpetrator was apprehended in Bhopal, near police headquarters, highlighting urgent security concerns in residential facilities

This past Saturday, on the 27th of July, a grim arrest was made in the case of the shocking murder of a 22-year-old woman from Bihar. The young woman was fatally stabbed earlier in the week within the confines of her Paying Guest accommodation in Bengaluru, Karnataka. Authorities have disclosed that the suspect had romantic ties with the victim's roommate, which often led to contentious disputes between them.

In a swift move following the heinous act, the suspect fled Bengaluru and took refuge in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh. His capture was facilitated by police action in Bhopal, where he was found and taken into custody. This arrest followed closely on the heels of the release of CCTV footage by the police, which graphically documented the brutal murder, bringing the tragic event into public view.
The suspect, identified as Abhishek, also hails from Bihar and is known to have been the former boyfriend of the victim’s roommate at the PG. The victim, Kriti Kumari, was also originally from Bihar and had been residing at the PG since March of this year. According to police sources, she was employed as a business development associate at a project-based learning platform.
Investigations have further revealed that Abhishek was a frequent visitor to the PG, where his visits often ended in verbal altercations with his girlfriend. Tragically, Kriti often found herself intervening in these disputes, a factor that may have played a role in the fatal confrontation.
Kriti Kumari and her roommate often found themselves at odds with her over his lack of employment, as reported by NDTV. Kriti, employed at a private firm in Bengaluru, would at times become embroiled in these disagreements. It is alleged that she advised her roommate to keep some distance from her troubled partner.
Further reports from NDTV highlight that Kriti Kumari and her circle of friends had begun distancing themselves from the accused as tensions in their relationship escalated. On a notable occasion, Abhishek disrupted the peace at their PG accommodation. This incident occurred when Kriti Kumari was assisting a friend in moving to a new hostel.
The police shared that Kriti Kumari had strongly recommended her roommate to sever living arrangements with the accused and instead, move in with her.
On the tragic day of the incident, it was noted that the accused entered the PG carrying luggage. He was granted access by the PG's security after Kriti mistakenly informed them that he was her brother and would soon depart.
Authorities have criticized the PG owner's lack of vigilance, which they believe played a role in the tragic outcome. They disclosed that shortly before the incident, Kriti Kumari’s roommate had vacated the PG, presumably to live with her boyfriend.
On the 23rd of July, the roommate of the victim, after a brief period away, returned to the PG accommodation to stay with Kriti Kumari. Police sources suggest that the accused, Abhishek, harbored suspicions that Kriti might have influenced his girlfriend’s decision to move back.
The tragic event unfolded around 11 PM at Bhargavi Staying Homes For Ladies, located in Venkatreddy Layout, alarmingly close to the South East Deputy Commissioner of Police’s office and the Koramangala police station—just over a kilometre away.
Abhishek was apprehended on a Saturday in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh. Post-arrest, Bengaluru Police Commissioner B Dayananda stated that Abhishek is being transported back to Bengaluru on a transit demand. As of now, the police have not provided a definitive motive for the murder. In a statement to the press, Commissioner Dayananda said, “We don't know it yet. He has to be brought here and then we have to take his police custody and thorough investigation and interrogation has to be conducted... only then further details can be shared.”
This case continues to develop, with authorities piecing together the circumstances that led to this brutal act. The proximity of the crime scene to significant police infrastructure raises pressing questions about security and preventive measures in residential areas.
On Friday, distressing CCTV footage capturing the brutal murder emerged online and quickly spread across social platforms. The footage showed the accused, Abhishek, entering the hostel corridor carrying a polythene bag. He is seen knocking on the door, and when Kriti Kumari opened it, he forcefully dragged her outside. Despite her attempts to resist, he violently slit her throat and stabbed her multiple times. Shockingly, even after she collapsed, he continued to attack her, gripping her hair while repeatedly stabbing her, before fleeing the scene. The commotion alerted people nearby who rushed to help, but tragically, they were unable to save her.
The Koramangala Police, led by Inspector Nataraj, have taken swift action in response to this heinous crime. They registered the case under Section 103 (murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and promptly launched a thorough investigation.
Further details provided by the police reveal that the accused had stealthily entered the PG hostel and attacked Kriti near her room on the third floor, around 11:30 PM on Tuesday, the 23rd of July. She succumbed to her injuries on the spot, suffering from multiple stab wounds.
In the wake of his arrest, the police have confirmed that Abhishek is being transported back to Bengaluru to face further investigative procedures.
This incident has cast a shadow over the community, prompting a reevaluation of security measures in residential facilities. The ongoing investigation aims to uncover the full motive behind the murder, ensuring that justice is served for Kriti Kumari and her bereaved family.
