"भिखारी जैसा लोन पर जी रहा है": Female bank employee Anuradha Varma in Mumbai sparks outrage as viral audio shows her insulting a soldier over ₹15 lakh loan, HDFC Bank denies link

Mumbai, September 17: A shocking incident has surfaced online through an audio recording that has left many disturbed. In this viral audio, a woman who is said to be a bank employee can be heard misbehaving with a member of the Indian Armed Forces during a phone call.
The remarks made by her were highly insulting and have triggered anger among citizens. People on social media are demanding strict action against the woman for her derogatory comments against soldiers who protect the nation.
The claim being circulated with the audio is that the woman works with HDFC Bank in Mumbai. According to the viral post, she was not only threatening the soldier but also verbally abusing him over a dispute connected to a loan. This matter has quickly gained nationwide attention, with many describing the incident as deeply disrespectful and unacceptable.
What the Audio Reveals
In the audio clip, the woman can be heard making extremely offensive remarks. She says, “You are uneducated, that’s why you have been sent to the border. If you were educated, you would have been working in a reputed organisation. You should not eat someone else’s share, it won’t be digested, (Isiliye tumhare bachche viklang paida hote hai) that’s why your children are born disabled.”
Her comments do not stop there. She goes on to add, “I also belong to a defence family. If you had belonged to a good family, you would not have taken a loan of ₹15–16 lakh. You are living on loans and still giving lectures.”
She then openly challenges the soldier to visit the bank branch, saying: “Do whatever you want, try to ruin me. (Bhikari jaisa loan pe jee rahhe ho) You are living like a beggar on loans. Am I your father’s servant? Do I look mad to you?”
These words have been described as cruel and highly disrespectful, especially towards a soldier who serves the country. The recording has been widely circulated, with people expressing outrage and demanding accountability.

HDFC Bank Issues a Clarification
The clip was shared on the social media account of a journalist with the username “@navalkant.” Along with the audio, details of the woman were posted, identifying her as Anuradha Varma and claiming that she works at HDFC Bank in Mumbai. The post not only demanded legal action against her but also accused her of being anti-national for insulting the Armed Forces.
The video was posted with the caption: “Listen to the viral audio, I don't know why the fight happened. But the alleged @HDFC_Bank female employee went to the extreme of misbehaving with a military personnel over a loan. Not only that, she insulted the entire army and the martyrs, hurled abuses. She thoroughly humiliated those who take loans. Those taking loans, be cautious!”
Soon after, HDFC Bank released an official statement denying the claim. The bank clarified, “this information is incorrect. There is no employee of HDFC Bank under that name - Anuradha Verma.”
A spokesperson further added, “We would like to clarify that the lady in the audio clip is not an employee of the Bank. The conduct seen in the video is neither acceptable nor does it reflect HDFC Bank’s values.”

Deepika Narayan Bhardwaj, a well-known men’s rights activist, also shared the audio and expressed her anger. She wrote, “Horrendous behaviour by your employee @HDFC_Bank. She's talking as if people who take loan are beggars. She's saying kids of soldiers who take loan are born disabled and then become Martyrs. Heights of sickness. Sack her please.”
Her post added more fuel to the public outrage. Many others agreed with her and demanded that the bank act swiftly to restore trust.
Netizens Call for Immediate Termination
Across social media platforms, people are strongly demanding that the woman be removed from her position. Many believe such words not only insult soldiers but also attack the dignity of every person who takes a loan. Another user wrote, “This is an anti-national behaviour‼ An act detrimental to the dignity & valour of the Armed Forces of India. The bank should immediately terminate this employee, irrespective of how influential her contacts may be.”
The matter has now turned into a major debate online, with strong voices urging that such behaviour must not be tolerated under any circumstances.
