"पापा कहते हैं बड़ा नाम करेगा": A Lucknow student killed his father over NEET exam pressure and hid the body in a blue drum at their home before filing a fake report, leading to a grim discovery by the police in the Ashiyana area

A horrifying incident has shaken the city of Lucknow, where a 21-year-old student stands accused of a brutal crime against his own family. On February 20, a young man studying for his BCom degree allegedly shot his father to death, dismembered the body, and hid the remains inside their own home. The tragedy unfolded in the Ashiyana area of Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh.

The suspect, identified as Akshat, reportedly took these extreme steps following a heated argument regarding his career and education. According to local reports, the conflict centered on his father’s desire for him to prepare for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET).
The investigation began when Akshat tried to mislead the authorities by filing a missing person report. He claimed that his father, 49-year-old Manvendra Singh, had left for a trip to Delhi and never returned. However, the police soon discovered a much darker reality. Their investigation revealed that the murder was the result of intense pressure on the boy to pursue an MBBS degree and become a doctor.

Fatal Conflict Over Career Aspirations
The violence occurred within the limits of the Ashiyana police station in Sector L. Manvendra Singh was a businessman who owned a pathology lab and was also said to be involved in the liquor trade. As a father, he had a specific vision for his only son’s future. Police officials stated that “he had been urging his only son, Akshat, to prepare for NEET and become a doctor.” This vision, however, was not shared by Akshat. He had no interest in the medical field and had different plans for the family’s future. Reports indicate that “Akshat was unwilling to pursue medicine and had suggested that the family shut the pathology lab and instead start a restaurant business.” This difference in opinion led to a final, fatal confrontation. On the morning of February 20, at approximately 4:30 am, the tension peaked. Police stated that during the dispute, “Akshat used his father’s licensed rifle to shoot him dead inside the house.”

Remains Dismembered and Discarded
The details following the shooting are particularly grim. After the killing, the accused allegedly moved the body from the third floor of the house down to a vacant room on the ground floor. In that room, he reportedly dismembered the corpse. To cover his tracks, he packed several body parts into a vehicle and drove to the Kakori and Sadrauna areas to dump them.
The most shocking discovery was made back at the residence. The victim’s “torso was placed inside a blue drum and hidden inside the house.” There are even disturbing reports suggesting that the accused tried to use acid to destroy the remains. While the police have managed to trace the head of the deceased, the search for other missing parts continues. During a press briefing, authorities mentioned that Akshat was caught just in time, as he “was planning to dispose of the remaining parts but was detained before he could do so.” Forensic teams have since recovered the torso from the blue drum based on information provided during the interrogation.

Suspicious Disappearance Report Leads to Arrest
The cover-up began in earnest on February 23, when Akshat went to the police to report his father missing. He provided a detailed but fabricated story, claiming that “his father had woken him at 6 am on 20th February and said he was leaving for Delhi, promising to return by the next afternoon.” He further attempted to explain his father's silence by stating that all three of his father’s mobile phones were turned off.
The police, however, noticed that his story did not add up. Under the pressure of a sustained interrogation, his narrative shifted; at one point, “he claimed his father had died by suicide.” Eventually, the weight of the evidence led him to confess to the murder. Acting on his confession, officers found the murder weapon, a licensed rifle, which had been “recovered from beneath a mattress.”

Sister Held Silent Under Threat
Perhaps the most tragic element of this case is that Akshat’s 17-year-old sister, Kriti, was present during the violence. Police investigations revealed that the young girl witnessed the shooting of her father. She did not speak up initially because her brother “allegedly threatened to kill her if she disclosed the incident.” Paralyzed by fear, she stayed quiet while her brother attempted to clean the family car to wash away the blood stains.
The Deputy Commissioner of Police, Vikrant Veer Singh, has confirmed that the initial missing person inquiry has now been officially changed to a murder investigation. The accused is currently in police custody as the legal process moves forward.
