The Bhopal Conversion and Exploitation Case: Comprehensive Details of the Investigation

A deeply disturbing criminal operation has been uncovered in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, involving a complex web of drugging, blackmail, and forced religious conversion. Local authorities have dismantled a racket allegedly orchestrated by two sisters, identified as Amreen and Afreen. The duo is accused of targeting vulnerable Hindu women by promising them stable employment, only to trap them in a cycle of abuse.

The investigation reveals that the two sisters, who previously resided in the slums of Abbas Nagar, had recently upgraded their lifestyle significantly. They moved into a high-end residential complex known as Sagar Royal Villas, located near Ashima Mall in Hoshangabad, Bhopal. On Monday, February 23rd, 2026, law enforcement officials arrested Amreen, Afreen, and an associate named Chandan Yadav. The police are currently pursuing three other individuals linked to the case: Bilal, Chanu, and Yasir. An official First Information Report (FIR) has been filed against six people under Sections 64, 123, and 351 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with relevant sections of the Madhya Pradesh Freedom of Religion Act.

Discovery of the Criminal Network

The path to uncovering this operation began on the night of Sunday, February 22nd, when two brave survivors approached the Bagh Sewania police station. Although the women arrived separately to report their grievances, officers quickly identified a “striking similarity in their cases.”

According to police records, the syndicate targeted women from economically disadvantaged backgrounds. They used the lure of domestic work with a monthly salary of approximately ₹10,000, promising additional benefits like free housing and meals. The victims, aged 21 and 32, come from different regions; one is a local resident of Bhopal, while the other hails from the Mungeli district in Chhattisgarh. Both women provided harrowing accounts of being drugged and raped by multiple individuals across several cities, including Bhopal, Mumbai, and Ahmedabad.

Forced Conversions and Systematic Abuse

The details provided by the survivors paint a picture of extreme cruelty. The victim from Bhopal, who served as a domestic worker in Amreen’s home, stated that she was intentionally left alone at a residence in Narayan Nagar belonging to Chandan Yadav’s sister. It was there that she was raped by Yadav. She further alleged that “Chandan Yadav blackmailed her and threatened to kill her if she disclosed the incident to anyone.” She also identified Bilal, Yasir, and Chanu as individuals who drugged and repeatedly assaulted her.

The second victim, a professional beautician from Mungeli, was reportedly lured to Ahmedabad in December 2025 under the pretense of a job opportunity. Upon arrival, she was assaulted by Yasir, a relative of Amreen. She recounted an incident where “Bilal laced her tea with a sedative and raped her after she fell unconscious.” Her statement further implicates Chandan Yadav in multiple assaults occurring between August 2025 and January 2026. After managing to escape in January, she sought refuge with relatives in Chhattisgarh before returning to Bhopal to seek justice.

Beyond sexual violence, the racket focused heavily on forced religious conversion. The FIR details how Chandan Yadav claimed he had already converted to Islam and pressured a victim to do the same, promising a "good marriage" as a reward. This victim was eventually “forcefully converted to Islam and was forced to wear a burqa and offer prayers.” Additionally, the women were forced into high-society environments, made to wear revealing clothing, and coerced into socializing with wealthy men at pubs and lounges while being drugged against their will. Whenever they attempted to quit, the suspects used “obscene photographs” to blackmail them into submission.

Evidence Uncovered from Mobile Devices

Following the arrests of Amreen, Afreen, and Chandan on Monday, police conducted a forensic examination of their mobile devices. Investigators discovered highly suspicious WhatsApp conversations and numerous photographs of young women on Amreen’s phone. Because the victims were transported across state lines to meet various strangers, authorities strongly suspect the existence of a much larger, interstate criminal network.

Additional DCP Gautam Solanki confirmed the gravity of the situation, stating that the case at Bagh Sewania police station is being handled with the utmost priority. He noted: “The female complainant has filed a rape report. A crime has been registered, and further investigation is underway. The victim worked as a maid at the accused woman’s house. The accused persons are being questioned.”

The police are currently tracing the financial history, travel logs, and digital footprints of the accused to determine the full scale of the operation and whether they were working in isolation or as part of a larger organized crime syndicate.
