Bulandshahr police arrest 12 and book Village Head Moin along with 63 others after an attack on Akash Kumar and Dalit Hindus during a religious Kuaan Poojan and DJ music program on February 23rd

In a distressing turn of events in Uttar Pradesh, the Bulandshahr police have taken decisive action following a violent confrontation in a local village. On 24th February, law enforcement officials arrested 12 individuals from the Muslim community. These arrests come in the wake of an alleged attack on members of the Dalit Hindu community during two significant religious and traditional observances: a Kuaan Poojan (well-worship ceremony) and a Devi Jagran (overnight prayer vigil).

According to multiple media reports, the violence erupted over the playing of DJ music during these festivities. The local police acted on a formal complaint filed by Akash Kumar, who is identified as one of the victims of the assault. The authorities have officially registered a case against a total of 64 individuals. This group includes 15 specifically named suspects and approximately 50 other unidentified persons. The charges have been filed under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
The incident itself occurred on the night of 23rd February, and the details have been further clarified through the FIR (First Information Report).

The Timeline of the Escalating Conflict
The roots of the dispute trace back to Monday evening. The police report indicates that the trouble began during a Kuaan Poojan ceremony held at the home of Akash Kumar, a member of the Dalit community. The family had a full evening planned, with a Devi Jagran scheduled to follow the initial ceremony. As is common with such celebrations, relatives and family members were dancing to music being played on a DJ system.
The atmosphere changed when members of the Muslim community approached the gathering to object to the music. Their primary concern was that the music coincided with the time of namaz (prayers). They requested that the DJ system be turned off out of respect for the prayer time. Seeking to maintain communal harmony, "The complainant’s side complied and stopped the music."
The calm was short-lived. Once the namaz had concluded, the family restarted the DJ to continue their religious program. It was at this moment that the dispute flared up significantly. What began as a verbal disagreement quickly spiraled into a heated argument, which eventually led to a physical assault on the Dalit Hindus present. The intensity of the altercation was captured in several videos that have since gone viral on social media platforms, showing the scale of the unrest.

Serious Claims of Trespassing and Targeted Abuse
The details provided by Akash Kumar in his official complaint paint a harrowing picture of the night's events. He alleged that dozens of Muslim men did not just protest the music from the street but actively entered his private residence. Once inside, they reportedly assaulted the guests and family members. A particularly grave aspect of the complaint involves the use of derogatory language; Akash stated that the attackers "used caste based slurs" throughout the confrontation.
Furthermore, the complaint includes accusations of harassment and inappropriate behavior. Akash explicitly accused the group of "misbehaving with women present in the house during the incident." The violence was not limited to physical scuffles; media reports suggest that bricks were used as weapons. This resulted in a young man sustaining injuries and a woman being struck in the eye by a projectile.
In the aftermath, police leadership has moved to reassure the public. SP City Shankar Prasad informed the media that the situation is currently under control and that an adequate police force has been deployed throughout the village to prevent further friction. Station House Officer (SHO) Neeraj Kumar Malik confirmed the registration of the case and noted that legal proceedings are moving forward rapidly.

Detailed Findings from the Official FIR
The legal document, registered based on Akash Kumar’s testimony, invokes several serious sections of the law. The FIR includes Sections 191(2), 191(3), 190, and 115(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), alongside Sections 3(1)(s) and 3(1)(w) of the SC/ST Act. The primary accused named in the document is the Gram Pradhan (Village Head) Moin. Other named individuals include Matlub, Adil, Akram, Qasim, Firoz, Babar, Shamshad, Salman, Adil (son of Jamal), Fardeen, Arbaz, Asif, and Gulfam, along with nearly fifty others who remain unidentified.
In his written statement to the UP Police, Akash reiterated that the program was a peaceful religious gathering at his home. He clarified that the Muslim community members initially succeeded in having the music stopped for namaz. However, he noted that once the music resumed, the group "returned with lathis and sticks, and assaulted those present."
The complaint further details the nature of the threats made during the assault. Akash stated that "casteist abuses were used, including threats directed at members of the SC community." He also emphasized that evidence exists to support these claims, noting that the entire incident was captured on a mobile phone video, which reportedly shows the specific moments where women were being assaulted.
Current Status of Police Operations
As of the latest updates, twelve of the accused individuals have been taken into custody. The Bulandshahr police are not stopping there; they are currently conducting targeted raids across the region to locate and apprehend the remaining suspects named in the FIR.
The investigation is being closely watched by senior law enforcement officers to ensure the process is thorough and fair. Official statements from the department have been firm regarding the consequences of such violence, stating that "strict action will be taken against anyone found disturbing law and order."
