Politics Over National Interest: Rahul Gandhi Skips Key Meeting on West Asia Conflict, Targets PM Modi

The central government has called for an all-party meeting to discuss the ongoing war in West Asia, scheduling it for 25th March (Wednesday) at 5 PM. The purpose of this meeting is to bring together leaders from across political lines to assess the situation and its possible impact on India, especially in areas such as trade and energy supply. As tensions in the region continue to rise, such discussions are seen as important for shaping a unified national response.

However, a day before the scheduled meeting, on 24th March (Tuesday), Congress leader Rahul Gandhi announced that he would not be able to attend. He cited a prior commitment in Kerala as the reason for his absence. Alongside this announcement, he launched a sharp criticism of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the government’s approach to foreign policy, raising concerns about its effectiveness and independence.

Speaking to reporters, Rahul Gandhi said, “I would not be able to attend because I have a program in Kerala. An all-party meeting should take place, but a structural blunder has been made, and this cannot be fixed, especially since the Prime Minister cannot. He will do whatever America says and will not work in the interest of the farmers and the country. He will do whatever America and Israel say,” he alleged. His remarks suggested that he believes the government’s decisions are being influenced by external powers rather than being guided by national priorities.

The Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha went further in his criticism by describing India’s foreign policy under the current leadership as personal rather than institutional. He stated that such an approach has affected how the country is viewed globally. Referring to international perceptions, he said, “Our foreign policy is PM Modi’s personal foreign policy. Everyone considers this a universal joke. Donald Trump knows exactly what PM Modi can and cannot do. If the Prime Minister is compromised, our foreign policy is compromised,” he accused. Through these statements, Gandhi attempted to question both the credibility and independence of India’s diplomatic stance.

Continuing his attack, the Congress leader also commented on Prime Minister Modi’s recent address in Parliament. He dismissed the speech as lacking relevance to the current situation and expressed concern about the possible consequences for ordinary citizens. Drawing a comparison with the COVID-19 pandemic, he argued that the government’s inability to take firm decisions could lead to further difficulties.

In his words, “He made an irrelevant speech in the Parliament yesterday. It should seem that he is India’s Prime Minister, but there is no position. People will have to suffer due to this. It is just the beginning where LPG and Petrol prices have risen. He claims the situation will be like Covid, but he forgot how many people died during Covid and the number of tragedies that took place,” the Rae Bareli MP insisted. His remarks highlighted concerns about rising fuel costs and their broader impact on the public.

Meanwhile, the government has maintained that the purpose of the all-party meeting is to ensure that all political stakeholders are informed and involved in discussions related to the West Asia conflict. The situation in the region has raised concerns globally, particularly because of its potential to disrupt energy supplies and international trade routes.

Despite these concerns, the government has repeatedly assured that India is well-prepared to handle any possible disruptions. Officials have emphasized that there is no immediate energy crisis and that the country has sufficient reserves of fuel and gas to meet its needs. This assurance was also reiterated by Prime Minister Modi during his recent speech in the Lok Sabha, where he underlined that India’s energy security remains stable even amid global uncertainty.

For more context on India’s energy preparedness and global supply concerns, readers can refer to reports by the International Energy Agency and updates from the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, which regularly track fuel reserves and supply trends.

As the date of the all-party meeting approaches, the absence of a key opposition leader and the sharp exchange of political statements have added another layer to an already sensitive situation. The developments reflect not only the seriousness of the international crisis but also the continuing political tensions within the country.
