In a major political development in Tamil Nadu, DMK leader Udhayanidhi Stalin has been detained. This action took place after Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), led by Tamil Nadu chief minister Vijay, filed formal complaints with the local police as well as the National Commission for Women (NCW). The complaints stem from alleged remarks made by the leader of opposition regarding popular film actress Trisha Krishnan.

The initial complaint was officially lodged at the Thanjavur East Police Station by S Bairavi, who serves as TVK's Central District Women's Wing Organiser for Thanjavur. Following these developments, Tamil Nadu police moved quickly to deploy a heavy police force directly in front of the residence where the DMK leader was staying in Thanjavur.

The controversial incident unfolded while Stalin was speaking at a public meeting organized in Thanjavur to address the ongoing Cauvery water dispute. While addressing the event, the Tamil Nadu LoP was interrupted by a section of the crowd chanting "Trisha, Trisha."

He took a brief pause and said, "Whether the water reaches anywhere else or not, it should reach there," before clarifying that he was referring to the Cauvery.

Despite his clarification, the TVK has alleged that Udhayanidhi Stalin responded to the 'Trisha' chants with an obscene and double-meaning remark, as reported by news agency PTI.

The complaint formally accused Stalin and DMK IT wing officials of intentionally degrading women, causing severe mental stress to the actor and women in general. Furthermore, the complaint highlighted that the MK Stalin-led party deliberately circulated a video of the incident, which lasted over 2 minutes, across the social media platform X.

Taking the issue to the federal level, TVK's national spokesperson, Pazha Selvakumar, also lodged a formal complaint with the NCW in New Delhi.

As the controversy erupted, TVK ministers, including Aadhav Arjuna and N Anand, strongly condemned the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, terming their conduct "absolutely disgusting" and stating that such acts expose the "mindset, political culture, and declining standards of the Arivalayam clan."

Joining the opposition criticism, Tamil Nadu BJP chief spokesperson Narayanan Thirupathy also slammed the DMK leader, demanding Stalin's arrest and describing his alleged remarks as “disgusting, obscene, vulgar and shameful.”

BJP Condemns Udhayanidhi Stalin Over Offensive Comments Related to Actor 'Trisha'

Leader of the Opposition in the Tamil Nadu Assembly, Udhayanidhi Stalin, courted widespread controversy after making an offensive remark that was broadly interpreted as an allusion to actor Trisha.

According to news agency PTI, while addressing a protest gathering over the Cauvery dispute, Udhayanidhi took a swipe at chief minister C Joseph Vijay, alleging that Tamil Nadu had not received a single drop of Cauvery water while the chief minister remained unconcerned.

The rally took a controversial turn when someone in the crowd shouted, "Trisha, Trisha." Pausing his speech, Udhayanidhi responded with a remark widely interpreted as an offensive double entendre, triggering an immediate political backlash.

Taking to X, Tamil Nadu BJP chief spokesperson Narayanan Thirupathy stated that Udhayanidhi's "double-meaning" remark is "disgusting, obscene, vulgar and shameful".

Elaborating on his criticism, Thirupathy expressed strong indignation: "Truly, even a rogue or thief who has a mother, wife, daughter would not speak so vulgarly. No mother, wife, or daughter would forgive those who speak like that," wrote the BJP leader.

According to him, Udhayanidhi should be arrested and imprisoned for this comment.

"Arresting and imprisoning Udhayanidhi Stalin for this low-grade speech would bring more credit to Tamil Nadu Chief Minister than arresting Markandeyan (DMK MLA). Let us see whether courts punish this speech or grant bail," Thirupathy said.

Meanwhile, calling the DMK's conduct "absolutely disgusting", TVK MLA Rhevanth Charan, in a post on X, said such acts expose the mindset and declining standards of the Arivalayam clan.

"Passing such disgraceful comments against anyone is completely unacceptable. It exposes the mindset, political culture, and declining standards of the Arivalayam clan. Your announced protest collapsed even before it could begin. Now, desperate for attention, you have resorted to cheap provocation and engagement farming," Charan said.

Warning the opposition against "continued arrogance and inappropriate behaviour", Charan wrote: "This is precisely why the people of Tamil Nadu rejected you and confined you to the position you are in today. Continue with this arrogance and indecency, and you will soon be erased from public relevance altogether. Even by Arivalayam's already abysmal standards, this is a new low."

In addition to political figures, many people on social media also hit out at the DMK leader for his remarks.
