Rolls-Royce deepens ‘Make in India’ presence: partners Bharat Forge for next-gen engine blades

In a major boost to India’s growing role in the global aerospace supply chain, Rolls-Royce has entered a strategic partnership with Bharat Forge Limited to manufacture and supply advanced fan blades for its upcoming Pearl 700 and Pearl 10X engines.

The agreement, signed at Rolls-Royce’s Dahlewitz facility near Berlin, symbolizes not only a strengthening of the historic partnership between these two engineering powerhouses but also the British company’s commitment to double its sourcing from India by the end of this decade.

This step aligns perfectly with the Indian government’s flagship ‘Make in India’ initiative. Rolls-Royce continues to invest in “in-country capabilities” through strategic collaborations with local leaders, ensuring that world-class aerospace manufacturing thrives on Indian soil. With this agreement, Bharat Forge — already a globally reputed name in precision-forged and machined aerospace components — will expand its contribution by producing complex, high-tolerance fan blades for the latest Pearl engine family.

A landmark in Indo-UK industrial partnership

Sashi Mukundan, Executive Vice President (Transformation) at Rolls-Royce India, hailed the collaboration as proof of the company’s long-term faith in India’s industrial potential.
“Rolls-Royce is delighted to deepen its partnership with Bharat Forge towards advancing the ‘Make in India’ vision. This new contract reflects our commitment to developing world-class manufacturing capabilities in India, with a shared vision of delivering state-of-the-art aerospace components to the global supply chain ecosystem.”

The new deal widens Bharat Forge’s earlier contribution from the Pearl 700 engine programme to now include the Pearl 10X, Rolls-Royce’s most advanced business-aviation engine designed to power the Dassault Falcon 10X, a long-range jet renowned for fuel efficiency and superior performance. This expansion reflects the mutual confidence both companies share in each other’s technical depth and reliability.

Collaboration rooted in trust since 2020

The relationship between Rolls-Royce and Bharat Forge began in 2020, when the Indian engineering major first started supplying critical components for the Pearl 700 programme. Years of collaboration led to a milestone moment in 2024, when Bharat Forge delivered its first “zero-defect” fan blade for the engine — a feat that highlighted its world-class precision and adherence to aerospace-grade standards.

Building on this success, the latest partnership signals Bharat Forge’s entry into Rolls-Royce’s next generation of propulsion systems, further embedding Indian engineering in global aerospace production lines.
Amit Kalyani, Vice Chairman and Managing Director of Bharat Forge, reaffirmed the shared pursuit of innovation, saying,
“This expanded partnership with Rolls-Royce reflects our shared commitment to engineering excellence and long-term collaboration. We are proud to support the Pearl engine family, which represents the future of high-performance aviation.”

Powering India’s aerospace future

For Rolls-Royce, India is no longer just a sourcing base—it is an essential pillar of its global diversification strategy. The company has operated in India for more than 90 years, supporting both defence and civil aviation. Today, over 1,400 Rolls-Royce engines power aircraft across the Indian Air Force, Navy, Coast Guard, and Army.

Within India, Rolls-Royce employs over 4,000 people, including 2,800 engineers who contribute to global design, R&D, and innovation programmes. The Bharat Forge tie-up fits seamlessly into the company’s long-term goal of transforming India into a full-scale aerospace design and manufacturing hub, rather than merely a supplier of components.

India’s rise as a manufacturing powerhouse

This announcement coincides with a wave of large-scale foreign investments transforming India’s industrial landscape. For instance, Hyundai Motor India Limited recently announced a ₹45,000 crore investment plan through FY2030 to make India its second-largest global market.

Such moves highlight the faith international manufacturers now place in India’s stable policies, skilled labour, and expanding market demand. For Rolls-Royce, the Bharat Forge partnership is far beyond cost efficiency—it represents a strategic investment in technology independence and supply-chain resilience. Experts suggest that collaborations like this could pave the way for indigenous progress in materials science, turbine innovation, and component precision engineering, positioning India as a serious contender in global aerospace development.

A push toward self-reliant aerospace growth

The long-term benefits of this partnership will extend well beyond the factory floor. Bharat Forge’s role in producing fan blades for Rolls-Royce’s Pearl 700 and 10X engines enhances India’s export potential in high-precision manufacturing. It will also create high-skill employment and foster training in niche fields such as metallurgy, 3D manufacturing, and aerospace engineering—all critical to India’s Atmanirbhar Bharat vision.

Rolls-Royce aims to double its sourcing from India by 2030, relying heavily on collaborations with domestic giants like HAL, Tata Advanced Systems, and Bharat Forge. Together, these partnerships will continue to push India toward becoming a global hub of innovation and quality aerospace production.

Strengthening India’s aerospace identity

Ultimately, the Rolls-Royce–Bharat Forge collaboration stands as a shining example of how global expertise and Indian capability can merge to deliver innovation at scale. It showcases British engineering excellence meeting Indian manufacturing strength, reinforcing India’s place in Rolls-Royce’s worldwide ecosystem.

As Bharat Forge takes on larger responsibilities within the Pearl engine family, this alliance symbolizes India’s growing credibility in high-precision aerospace technology. Over time, such partnerships are expected to serve as the foundation for future collaborations, propelling India closer to its goal of becoming a global leader in advanced aviation systems.
