Bihar's Nagpanchami processions turned battlegrounds as brutal stone-pelting erupted, with mobs even attacking the police, amid the chaos, religious sentiments were trampled, showcasing the lawlessness that even security forces couldn't escape or control

In an unsettling turn of events, Bihar witnessed aggressive stone pelting on a religious procession during the festival of Nagpanchami in Bagaha, a situation that spiraled into violence extending to Motihari as well. While such festivals have historically been moments of unity and celebration, this incident suggests a blatant and disturbing deviation from the norm.

A detailed report from Zee News described the harrowing scene. What's even more alarming is that, despite having a substantial police presence guarding the procession, the onslaught was so ferocious that even these trained personnel found themselves running for cover. The very individuals tasked with ensuring the safety of the participants were left defenseless in the face of such unrestrained aggression. Notably, in addition to the stone-pelting, there were reports suggesting acts of vandalism and arson, which further amplified the tense atmosphere.
Nagpanchami, a significant occasion for the Hindu community, was marred by these attacks in various regions of Bihar. Reports coming in from different locations, especially Bagaha, Motihari-Mehsi, and surrounding areas, have highlighted severe instances of stone-pelting, vandalism, and other violent confrontations.

Diving deeper into the specifics of the Bagaha incident, it came to light that the Mahaviri Akhada in the Ratanmala district was at the forefront of the Nagpanchami celebrations. They had organized a religious procession, and in adherence to procedural norms, had obtained the necessary approvals from the police. With law enforcement accompanying the procession, one would assume a certain level of safety. However, the reality was starkly different.
As the procession moved through a particular locality, it was suddenly ambushed. Videos circulating on social media platforms showcased the intensity of the assault. Shockingly, hordes of individuals could be seen taking strategic positions on rooftops, hurling stones down on the procession below. What followed was sheer pandemonium, with even the police personnel, in their recognizable uniforms, dashing in all directions, desperately trying to evade the raining stones. The footage served as a grim testament to the danger that had unfolded on the ground.
The stone-pelting incidents, unfortunately, were not isolated to just Bagaha. Despite the clear and significant presence of police personnel, the stone-pelting was intense enough that it evoked a sense of vulnerability among the very officers designated to protect the public. As reported by Zee News, such was the intensity of the onslaught that these uniformed professionals found themselves in retreat, desperately trying to shield themselves. More than just stone-pelting, episodes of vandalism and arson added to the menacing atmosphere.

The distressing chain of events extended its shadow to Champaran, where Hindu processions were reportedly assaulted. This shocking pattern of hostility directed at peaceful religious processions raised serious concerns about the underlying animosities brewing in certain sections of society.
SDPO Nand Prasad, in his address to the media, expressed his reassurances. In his statement to ANI, he emphasized that the situation had been brought under control and a state of tranquility was restored. Further highlighting the readiness of the police, he mentioned the deployment of additional forces as a precautionary measure. Echoing a sentiment of unity and harmony, he earnestly appealed to the citizens to partake in religious events peacefully.
However, the sinister wave of clashes was not limited to just one region. Reports from the Motihari district painted a grim picture of tension flaring up in multiple locations. Mehsi, Kalyanpur, and Darpa, in particular, witnessed Hindu processions being disrupted by aggressive stone pelters. As per a detailed account by Jagran, police intervention in these areas was met with fierce resistance. When the officers resorted to a lathi charge to try and dispel the crowds, they were reciprocated with severe aggression. The outcome? Several officers were injured in the line of duty.

The intensity of these confrontations reached a climax in Darpa. Here, a procession in Pipra faced aggression from miscreants in Pachiyari Tola. The scene was chaotic with bricks and stones flying, turning a religious gathering into a veritable battlefield. The situation escalated to such an extent that Darpa SHO Dharmendra Yadav became one of the casualties, sustaining injuries during the turmoil.
What transpired in these regions of Bihar is a stark reminder that unresolved animosities can erupt at any moment. While religious processions symbolize unity and faith, these incidents serve as a reflection of the underlying tensions that exist. It is imperative for communities and law enforcement agencies to work together to address these rifts and ensure that such harrowing events don't repeat in the future.
