Maharashtra: Food Supplier Javed Khan Molests Girls of Thane’s CP Goenka School During a School Trip, Arrested

In a distressing turn of events that has sent shockwaves through the city of Thane, Maharashtra, a school trip meant for education and enjoyment transformed into a harrowing ordeal for several young students. Javed Khan, a 27-year-old food supplier, has been arrested under grave accusations of molesting schoolgirls from CP Goenka School during an educational excursion. This incident has shattered the trust of parents in school-organized trips and raised alarms over the safety measures in place for protecting our children from such predators.

The alarming incident came to light on Wednesday, 21st February, when Thane police filed an FIR against Javed Khan, following complaints from the affected students. The swift arrest of Khan was a small solace to the outraged community, demanding justice and accountability from those tasked with safeguarding their children. The involvement of CP Goenka School's administration, particularly the oversight of the teachers during the trip, is under rigorous scrutiny as the investigation unfolds.

Located in the Kapurbawdi area, CP Goenka School is known for its commitment to providing a safe and nurturing environment for its students. However, this reputation has been tarnished by the recent events. Reports indicate that during a co-educational trip, Khan was responsible for distributing food to the students aboard the bus. It was during these moments that he allegedly took advantage of his position, subjecting some of the girls to molestation.

The courage of these young girls in coming forward with their complaints is commendable. It was their bravery in informing their parents about the unacceptable behavior they experienced that brought this issue to light. The community is now rallying for stringent actions against the perpetrator and a thorough reevaluation of safety protocols during school trips to ensure such a heinous act is never repeated.

The shock and betrayal felt by the parents and the wider community are palpable. A school trip, which should have been a source of joyful memories, has been marred by a vile act that highlights the need for constant vigilance and stricter safety measures.

Three teachers from a private school have been dismissed, and a bus attendant has been taken into custody following allegations of molestation involving Class 2 students. This alarming event unfolded during a school picnic on a privately-owned bus, leading to widespread concern and outrage among parents and the broader community.

The incident in question occurred on Tuesday as children from the private school were en route to a theme park in the Ghatkopar area of Mumbai. In what was meant to be an enjoyable and educational outing, the journey took a distressing turn. "During the bus journey, the accused touched some girls as well as boys inappropriately on the pretext of serving them snacks. Following this, some students raised an objection and later told their parents about it. After that, they approached the police and filed a complaint," an official from the Kapurbawdi police station disclosed to the news agency PTI.

The revelations of these actions have sent ripples of concern through the hearts of parents, educators, and all who advocate for the safety and well-being of children. The thought of young students facing such violations in a setting where they should feel secure adds to the gravity of the situation. The 27-year-old bus attendant implicated in these accusations was arrested on Wednesday, reflecting the swift action taken by the authorities in response to the complaints. Legal proceedings were initiated against him, with charges laid under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections 354 (assault or use of criminal force to any woman), 354A (sexual harassment), and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, highlighting the severity of the allegations.

In a move to address the breach of trust and ensure accountability, the school management has taken decisive action by terminating the services of three teachers who were present during the excursion. This decision underscores the responsibility of educational institutions to safeguard their students and the importance of rigorous oversight during school activities, especially those taking place outside the school environment.

In a statement that has reverberated through the community, the management of the school involved in the recent distressing incident on a school picnic has publicly acknowledged the gravity of the situation. "An extremely unpleasant and unfortunate incident happened in the bus while students were returning from a one-day picnic. The school has expressed regret and required action has been taken," the school management conveyed in an official declaration. This acknowledgment comes in the wake of a deeply troubling episode that has raised serious concerns about child safety on school outings.

Further emphasizing their commitment to student welfare and in a bid to reassess safety protocols, "the school has cancelled all future excursions and initiated an internal inquiry through a committee comprising senior members of the management in respect of the alleged incident." This decision to halt all upcoming trips demonstrates the school's immediate response to the incident and its potential implications for the safety measures previously in place.

Adding to the school's decisive actions, "During the pendency of the inquiry, the school has terminated the employment of three teachers who accompanied the students to the excursion," highlighting a firm stance on accountability and the safeguarding of student welfare. This measure reflects the seriousness with which the school is treating the incident, ensuring that those under its employ are held to the highest standards of conduct, especially in situations where they are responsible for the care and safety of students.

In response to the incident, the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC)'s Education Officer, Balasaheb Rakshe, has also been actively involved, stating that the civic body has been approached by a political party with a memorandum concerning the incident. "He said the TMC’s education department has sought an explanation from the school management." This step by the TMC underscores the broader community's demand for transparency and accountability, ensuring that such incidents are thoroughly investigated and that measures are put in place to prevent their recurrence.

Parents Stage Protest

In a powerful display of collective dismay and urgency, parents of the students from a school in Thane city have taken a dramatic stand by staging a protest outside the educational institution. Their action comes in the wake of a deeply disturbing incident that occurred during a school picnic, leaving the community in shock and calling for immediate and strict measures against those responsible for safeguarding their children.

The protest was not merely a reaction to the incident itself but also to the perceived attempt by the school administration to obfuscate the facts and avoid taking decisive action against the accused. The parents have voiced a strong refusal to send their children back to the school until they witness substantial action taken against the principal, whom they hold accountable for the lapse in protection.

A particular parent's statement during the protest sheds light on the severity of the oversight and the anguish it has caused. "On February 20, when kids from grade 2 were on a picnic, two outsiders also accompanied them which wasn’t informed to any parents. We don’t know the due diligence or the process through which they’re selected for the picnic. One man has molested 8-10 children, teachers were there and saying that we’re keeping an eye and nothing has happened, but 8 children can’t lie… Teachers are denying it, and management has accepted but only about the negligence in appointing the third party and they’re blaming it entirely on the third party," reveals the depth of the breach in trust and safety protocols, igniting further outrage among parents.

In response to this egregious failure in duty of care, the parents are not only seeking accountability but are also demanding legal action against the teachers, the school management, and the principal, all of whom they deem complicit in the events that transpired. The community's trust has been significantly eroded, and the call for resignations and legal repercussions signifies the intensity of the parents' demands for justice and systemic change within the school's operational protocols.

"We are demanding the resignation of the teachers involved and management. We have filed an FIR against the teacher, management, principal, and the criminal," further emphasizes the parents' resolve to pursue every avenue to ensure such a breach of trust and safety does not occur again.

In a decisive move fueled by outrage and a demand for justice, the parents of the affected students took their grievances to the Kapurbawadi police station, where they lodged a formal complaint against the individual at the center of this harrowing incident, Javed Khan. The swift action by the police led to Khan's arrest, with charges being filed under the pertinent sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and the Indian Penal Code (IPC), marking a critical step towards addressing the grave injustice that had occurred.

The lodging of the case at Kapurbawdi police station, spurred by the complaints from the girls and their parents, was a turning point in this distressing saga. Following the revelation of the incident, the outrage among the parents of the aggrieved students boiled over into protests against the school administration. Their demands were clear: a comprehensive investigation into the incident and accountability from those in charge.

The protests gained momentum with the support of notable political figures, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena leader Avinash Jadhav and Shiv Sena (Shinde Faction) leader, former corporator of Thane, Sanjay Bhoir. Their presence underscored the community's solidarity and the seriousness of the issue at hand. Amidst this turmoil, a significant resolution was made by the parents - a collective decision not to send their children back to school until decisive action was taken against the principal, a move reflecting their deep mistrust and dissatisfaction with the school's handling of the matter.

As the police continue their investigation, the incident has become a rallying point for the community, uniting parents in a steadfast refusal to compromise on their children's safety. This incident not only highlights the immediate need for justice but also calls for a critical examination and overhaul of the safety protocols within educational institutions. The community's response, marked by protests and the demand for accountability, reflects a broader societal commitment to protecting the most vulnerable and ensuring such breaches of trust are not merely punished but prevented in the future.

This tragic episode has left an indelible mark on the city of Thane, serving as a painful reminder of the vulnerabilities children face and the paramount importance of vigilance and advocacy by parents and guardians. As the community navigates the aftermath of this event, it stands united in the pursuit of a safer, more secure environment for its children, one where the right to safety and the joy of learning are inviolable constants.
