Hindu outfits in Karnataka have stopped namaz being performed in the premises of a government school. Parents, alumni staged a protest with the help of after the video of Muslim students performing namaz inside a classroom went viral in social media. District collector has ordered an inquiry to look into the issue.

The Muslim students of Someshwara Palaya Bale Changappa Government Kannada Model School in Mulbagal, Karnataka were filmed performing namaz inside a classroom. As the video went viral on social media, parents of other students, alumni of the school and Hindu outfits staged a protest against this practice saying that it will set a wrong precedent.

When questioned by the protestors, Uma Devi, the Headmistress reportedly said that she didn’t know about it as she was outside. India Today reported her as saying, “I don’t know anything about this. I haven’t done it. The students did it themselves. I was not here when this happened. The block education officer called and said this was happening at school and I rushed.”

However Muslim students have said that they have been performing namaz in the classroom for the past two months since the school was reopened. They also say that the HM gave them permission to use the school premises to offer namaz. Another version being reported is that the HM told education department officials that she had given permission to Muslim students as they had to go out to the mosques nearby to perform namaz.

She allegedly said that they missed classes due to this and so granted permission to use a classroom to do it. It is unclear which version is true. But the matter has reached higher officials and the Kolar district collector has ordered a probe into the issue. Revana Siddappa, the Deputy Director of Public Instruction has been tasked to visit the school, conduct an inquiry and file a report about the issue.

Even as the issue of a Tamil Hindu girl losing life due to pressure to convert to Christianity is still burning, a government school allowing namaz in its premises has come as a shock. If the students were so concerned about their religious duties, they should have chosen to get educated in a madrasa. Performing namaz in public spaces has been a tried and tested method of Islamists to grab land and force others to follow their ways.

While the left-liberal media are outraged over the Sanskrit prayers of Kendriya Vidyalaya schools, they report this incident as right-wing extremism. Sanskrit prayers only talk about Hindu deities. But namaz verses say that only Allah is god and everything in the world belongs to him. The irony is that on one hand liberals say that religion shouldn’t be allowed inside educational institutions but on the other hand they think it was wrong of Hindu outfits to stop the same from being done that too in a public school.
