"बंदा-ए-इस्लाम": In Madhya Pradesh, a grieving Hindu infant was snatched from a hospital by Shabana after her mom Vimla Dhakad died, renamed Fatima, and illegally converted to Islam, but brave rescuers from the Child Rights Commission saved her

A terrible and heartbreaking incident has shaken the Sagar district of Madhya Pradesh, bringing to light a shocking case of abduction and forced conversion. A tiny, helpless two-and-a-half-month-old infant girl was snatched away from a hospital right after her mother passed away. This innocent child, who couldn’t even speak or understand what was happening, was taken by a woman named Shabana, who belongs to the Muslim community. This woman didn’t just stop at stealing the baby—she went as far as trying to change the little girl’s entire identity through official papers, converting her to Islam in a shameless act of deceit. Thankfully, the State Commission for Protection of Child Rights stepped in, rescued the infant, and placed her in a shelter home where she could be safe from such cruel intentions. The whole episode has left people stunned, raising serious questions about how someone could stoop so low as to target a defenseless baby who had just lost her mother.
This isn’t just a simple crime—it’s a bold and disgusting attempt to erase a child’s roots and religion, taking advantage of her vulnerability. The fact that Shabana, a grown woman, thought she could get away with kidnapping an infant and forcing a new identity on her is beyond comprehension. It’s a slap in the face to any sense of humanity or decency. The authorities deserve credit for acting quickly to save the baby, but the very thought of this happening in a hospital, a place meant for care and healing, is chilling. The infant, who should have been comforted and protected after such a tragic loss, was instead preyed upon by someone with no regard for her well-being or her family’s beliefs.

Infant Stolen and Admitted Under a Different Identity
The story of how this awful situation unfolded starts with a poor woman named Vimla Dhakad, who was struggling to survive. She was at the railway station in Sagar with her two young children—a five-year-old son and her tiny infant daughter—when she suddenly collapsed. Life had already been tough for Vimla, and now it took a devastating turn. Kind-hearted people nearby saw her fall and didn’t waste a second—they rushed her to Bundelkhand Medical College, hoping doctors could save her. Her two little ones, scared and confused, were right there with her. Despite everyone’s efforts, Vimla didn’t make it and passed away during treatment. It was a heartbreaking moment, leaving her children all alone in the world.
But what happened next is even more shocking. While Vimla’s body was still in the hospital, a woman named Shabana, who was also admitted there, saw an opportunity in this tragedy. Instead of helping or showing any kindness, she decided to take the infant girl away with her. Can you imagine the nerve of someone doing that? This poor baby, who had just lost her mother, was now in the hands of a stranger with selfish motives. Reports say that when Vimla was brought to the hospital on 17th February, both her children were admitted too, just to make sure they were okay. After their mother’s death, the Child Welfare Committee, a group that looks after kids in need, stepped in. They decided to send the five-year-old boy to an ashram, a safe place for him to stay.
The little boy, though only five, was brave enough to speak up. When the Committee members talked to him, he told them something very important. “I also have a younger sister who was taken to the hospital by an aunty and is admitted there,” he said. He even mentioned that when he was being taken from the hospital to the ashram, “I had told the police personnel about my sister being admitted there.” His words were a cry for help, a clue that something wasn’t right. The Committee listened and started digging deeper. They found out that yes, there had been an infant with Vimla—a little girl who was now missing from the picture. When they checked the hospital’s records, the truth came spilling out in the most disturbing way. The baby’s identity had been tampered with. Someone had marked her as “adopted” and changed her name to “Fatima”—a complete lie meant to hide what really happened.
The police were called in right away to investigate this mess. What they found was infuriating. The infant was still in the same hospital, but under a fake identity. Shabana had gone to disgusting lengths to cover her tracks. She had registered the baby’s name as “Fatima” in the hospital documents and listed her childless relatives, Hina Bano and Abdul Rashid from Shanichari, Guna, as the parents. To make it worse, the hospital just wrote “Adopted” on the papers without even bothering to check if it was true. How could a hospital be so careless? This wasn’t just a mistake—it was a deliberate plan by Shabana and her accomplices to steal this Hindu child and force her into a different religion.

Infant Placed in Shelter Home, Accused Claim Innocence
The investigation into this disturbing case took another turn when the truth about the fake documents came out. The couple who snatched the infant—Shabana and her husband—had the audacity to list themselves as the baby’s parents on official papers, as if they had any right to her. It’s sickening to think they believed they could just rewrite a child’s life like that. Thankfully, the authorities didn’t let this slide. The little girl was handed over to the State Commission for Protection of Child Rights, a group that steps in to protect kids in danger. They quickly moved her to Matrichhaya Ashram, a shelter home where she could finally be safe, far away from the greedy hands of those who took her. But what’s even more outrageous is how Shabana and her husband responded. Instead of owning up to their crime, they had the nerve to play innocent. They claimed they only took the orphaned infant because they felt sorry for her—a flimsy excuse that doesn’t hold up for a second. To top it off, they said they’d even applied for legal adoption at the Collector’s office in Sagar, as if that somehow makes their kidnapping okay. It’s a pathetic attempt to cover up their selfish, illegal actions, and it’s infuriating to see them try to twist the story like this.
The fact that Shabana thought she could get away with stealing a baby and forcing a new identity on her is bad enough. But pretending it was all out of kindness? That’s a new low. This couple didn’t care about the infant’s loss or her real family—they saw a chance to take what they wanted and ran with it. The shelter home might be a safe place for the baby now, but the damage done by their actions lingers. It’s hard to believe anyone could look at a grieving, motherless child and think, “I’ll just take her and call her mine.” The authorities are right to keep digging into this, because no amount of excuses can justify what they did.
'We Took Responsibility of the Girl'
Shabana didn’t just stop at kidnapping—she went all out to paint herself as some kind of hero, which is honestly disgusting. She had no shame, no guilt, nothing that showed she understood the wrong she’d done. Instead, she tried to make it sound like she was a saint, swooping in to save the day. Can you believe the gall of this woman? The district hospital’s civil surgeon, Dr. RS Jayant, didn’t buy it for a second. He straight-up said that “the girl has been adopted illegally”—no sugarcoating it, just the plain truth. But Shabana? She had her own version of the story, and it’s as flimsy as it gets. She said, “We were admitted in the ward. The girl's mother was also admitted there, the woman and the girl were lying in filth. There was no one to take care of them. We started taking care of the girl and cleaned her up.” According to her, “We gave clothes to the mother, fed her, the child's health was very bad. When we asked the doctor to admit her, he said that if someone takes responsibility, we will admit the child. After this, to save the child, we took responsibility for her and admitted her after registering her name. We did not know the child's name, we are being accused of stealing the child.”
Let’s break this down because it’s almost laughable how weak her defense is. Shabana wants everyone to believe she was just a good person helping out in a tough situation. But if she was so innocent, why didn’t she tell anyone what she was doing? Why change the baby’s name to “Fatima” and list her relatives as the parents? That’s not “taking responsibility”—that’s stealing a child and trying to erase who she really is.
What Does the Law Say
The law is crystal clear on this, and it’s about time someone put Shabana and her excuses in their place. No hospital, no matter how busy or careless, has the right to just hand over a child to any random family without proper legal steps. It’s not their call to make—it’s a judicial process for a reason. Senior Advocate Amarpal Singh from Bhopal laid it out plain and simple: “No hospital has the right to give a child for adoption to any family without following the judicial process. If any hospital does this, then any NGO or institution or person can file a criminal case against it in the concerned police station. As long as the child is a minor, his religion cannot be changed. When he becomes an adult, he will decide for himself which religion he wants to choose.” That’s the rule, black and white, no wiggle room. What Shabana did—grabbing the baby, faking adoption papers, and converting her to Islam—breaks every single part of that. She didn’t just bend the law; she smashed it to pieces.
The investigation is still going, and it better not stop until every detail is uncovered. People are furious, and they should be—this case has exposed how someone like Shabana can hide behind “humanitarian aid” while doing something as vile as kidnapping and forced conversion. The law’s on the baby’s side here, and it’s time it came down hard on those who thought they could cheat it.
