Saudi Arabia backs neighbors after Iran hits US bases in Qatar and UAE following Operation Epic Fury strikes by Donald Trump and Israel on Tehran, sparking a massive regional crisis and global alarm

Saudi Arabia has issued a firm and clear condemnation of the recent Iranian missile and drone strikes that hit United States military bases in several Gulf countries. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia described these attacks on facilities in the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Qatar, and Kuwait as an open act of aggression and a clear breach of international law. The Saudi government underscored that striking military installations on foreign soil without justification violates the fundamental principles that govern peaceful relations between nations.

In its official statement, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia expressed deep solidarity with the countries affected by these attacks. Riyadh pledged to extend every form of military and logistical support needed by these nations to help them respond to and withstand the threat posed by the Iranian actions. Saudi officials warned that such unchecked aggression could destabilize the entire region if not addressed collectively by the Gulf states and the broader international community. The statement stressed the need for urgent global diplomatic and security efforts to protect the sovereignty and safety of all nations facing what Saudi Arabia termed Iranian expansionism and hostile intervention.
This Saudi response comes amid a sharp escalation of tensions in the Middle East that began on February 28, when a coordinated offensive by the United States and Israel targeted sites within Iran. The operations were launched under the names “Operation Roaring Lion” by Israel and “Operation Epic Fury” by the United States. According to public announcements from Washington and Jerusalem, these strikes were intended to significantly degrade Iran’s military infrastructure. In a video message, US President Donald Trump declared the beginning of large-scale combat operations, explaining that the goal was to eliminate Iran’s nuclear capabilities, dismantle its missile programs, and create conditions for regime change that would “give Iranians a chance to topple their rulers.”

Following the US-Israel attacks, major explosions were reported across Iranian cities such as Tehran, Isfahan, and Qom, among others. Israeli officials stated that some of the targets included senior command centers and locations linked to Iran’s top political and military leadership. In the wake of these strikes, Iranian authorities reported dozens of civilian casualties, and several media outlets and eyewitness accounts suggested that a residential building associated with Iran’s supreme leader may have been hit. These reports have not been independently verified by neutral international observers, and the situation remains fluid with conflicting accounts emerging from different sources.
The US-Israel military action followed the breakdown of intense diplomatic efforts in Geneva just two days before the attacks. Those talks, mediated by Oman, were aimed at resolving long-standing disputes over Iran’s nuclear activities and compliance with international nuclear agreements. According to diplomatic sources, the negotiations collapsed amid sharp disagreements and allegations from the United States that Iran was not meeting the conditions required by Washington.

In retaliation for what Tehran called an unprovoked attack on its territory, Iran launched a large counterstrike using ballistic missiles and armed drones. These Iranian forces targeted major population centers and strategic locations in Israel, leading to air-raid sirens and reports of explosions in Jerusalem, Tel Aviv, and Haifa. In addition to Israeli cities, Iranian missiles struck United States military installations across the Gulf region, signaling Tehran’s intent to confront both Israel and the United States directly.
Among the confirmed targets hit by the Iranian bombardment were key US military facilities in the region, including Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar, Ali Al Salem Air Base in Kuwait, Al Dhafra Air Base in the United Arab Emirates, and the headquarters of the US Fifth Fleet in Bahrain. These bases are critical to American and coalition military operations in the Middle East, and their targeting represents a significant escalation in hostilities. The attacks have triggered urgent consultations between Gulf states and their Western allies, raising fears of a wider regional conflict.
