US Secretary of State Marco Rubio says the Delhi Red Fort blast was clearly a terrorist attack, praising India’s measured response and stating that Indians are capable and must be commended for their professionalism

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has openly appreciated India for the way it is managing the investigation into the recent terror attack near Delhi’s historic Red Fort.
He described the ongoing probe as “measured, cautious, and very professional.” Rubio made this remark while speaking to reporters after meeting India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar on the sidelines of the G7 foreign ministers’ meeting in Canada. According to a Reuters report, Rubio explained that the United States had already offered support, but Indian investigative agencies appeared to be managing the situation effectively on their own.

India’s investigation praised for its efficiency
Rubio emphasised that the US had extended help, but he noted that India’s authorities were capable and well-equipped to handle such sensitive matters independently. He stated, “We’ve offered to help, but I think they’re very capable in these investigations. They don’t need our help, and they’re doing a good job,” as reported by Reuters. He further praised India for being “very measured and professional” in handling an incident of this seriousness.
Rubio also addressed concerns about possible tensions between India and Pakistan following the blast. However, he remarked that Washington appreciated New Delhi’s calm conduct. He stressed that there was no doubt about the nature of the incident, saying, “Clearly, it was a terrorist attack, a car loaded with highly explosive materials that detonated and killed a lot of people. But the Indians have handled it very professionally.” His comments reflected a clear acknowledgment from the US that this was a deliberate act of terrorism, carried out using heavy explosives.

Jaishankar, Rubio discuss terrorism and global developments
During their meeting, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar thanked Rubio for expressing condolences over the deaths caused by the explosion in Delhi. After the discussion, Jaishankar posted on X that the two leaders had spoken about bilateral ties, trade, and supply chain cooperation. They also exchanged views on key international issues, including the Ukraine conflict, developments in the Middle East, and current dynamics in the Indo-Pacific region.
Rubio reiterated that the US would allow India’s investigation to progress before giving any detailed comments. He repeated his earlier point by saying, “They’re capable in these investigations. They don’t need our help,” and stressed once again that Indian agencies deserved recognition for their professionalism.
In his post on X, Jaishankar wrote, “Appreciate his condolences on the loss of lives in the blast in Delhi. Discussed our bilateral ties, focusing on trade and supply chains. Exchanged views on the Ukraine conflict, the Middle East/West Asia situation and Indo-Pacific.” He also held meetings with Canada’s Anita Anand, Ukraine’s Andrii Sybiha and France’s Jean-Noël Barrot. Meanwhile, several countries across the world issued strong statements condemning the attack in New Delhi. However, Pakistan has yet to comment on the incident.
The explosion took place late Monday evening when a vehicle blew up near the Red Fort in the national capital. Early findings suggest that the vehicle was driven by Dr. Umar U. Nabi, who is now suspected to have been part of a broader terror module involving other medical professionals. Earlier that same day, police carried out raids in Haryana’s Faridabad area, where they reportedly seized almost 3,000 kilograms of explosive materials, indicating the scale and planning behind the attack.
US Embassy expresses condolences
The US Embassy in New Delhi has also condemned the tragedy and offered support to the families affected by the explosion. The US Ambassador Sargio Gore released a statement saying, “Our sympathies and prayers are with the families of those killed in the horrific explosion in New Delhi. We wish the injured a speedy recovery.”
The blast occurred near the Red Fort Metro Station on Monday, 10 November, and resulted in the deaths of at least 13 people. Nearly two dozen others were left injured. India’s anti-terrorism units, along with forensic teams, continue to investigate the source of the explosives, the movement of the vehicle, and the individuals involved in planning the attack.

India officially declares the blast a terror attack
On Wednesday, the Central government formally classified the incident as a terror attack and directed all investigative bodies to work with “utmost urgency and professionalism.” The decision followed a Cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, after which a formal resolution was issued. The government stated, “The country has witnessed a heinous terror incident, perpetrated by anti-national forces, through a car explosion near the Red Fort on the evening of 10 November 2025. The explosion resulted in multiple fatalities, and caused injuries to several others.”
This declaration signals that the Centre views the blast not as an isolated act of violence but as a coordinated terror strike that required immediate national attention. The government’s stance reflects the seriousness of the incident and the need to ensure that all those responsible are identified and brought to justice.
