"बे-मक़्सद महफ़िल से बेहतर तन्हाई": Ayodhya police probe potential terror links after discovering bomb-making formulas in a medical college and seizing a saffron kurta with a yellow dhoti from paramedical student Sarfaraz's room

The ongoing investigation into a troubling handwritten document discovered inside the premises of Rajarshi Dasharath Autonomous State Medical College in Ayodhya has rapidly escalated, leading law enforcement authorities to expand their search operations to the neighboring district of Balrampur. A specialized team sent by the Ayodhya Police arrived in the area to thoroughly interview the family members and acquaintances of a first-year paramedical student named Sarfaraz.

Senior police officials overseeing the case have emphasized that investigators are carefully analyzing every piece of physical and digital evidence and have cautioned that no final conclusions will be drawn until the comprehensive inquiry reaches its end.
The initial apprehension of Sarfaraz took place after hospital personnel discovered a handwritten note containing step-by-step instructions for assembling explosive devices inside the hospital's X-ray department. The paper was spotted immediately following the conclusion of the overnight shift. Recognizing the severe safety implications, the medical staff handed the material directly over to the institution's administrative officers, who in turn immediately alerted local law enforcement authorities.

Local Inquiries Conducted at Student's Family Residence
During the late evening hours of Friday, July 31st, a dedicated contingent from the Ayodhya Police arrived at Sarfaraz’s ancestral family house located in the Purainia Talab neighborhood, under the jurisdiction of the City Kotwali area in Balrampur. Officers conducted interviews with his immediate family members and sought background details from local residents living in the vicinity. When media reporters from Zee News visited the residential property the following day, the house remained completely locked. Owing to the highly sensitive nature of the national security investigation, most neighbors refrained from speaking on camera.
However, one local resident, who requested anonymity, described Sarfaraz as a friendly youth who had never been involved in any disputes, fights, or law-and-order incidents in the neighborhood.

Rental Property Search Raises Fresh Questions
As part of their efforts to reconstruct his recent activities, investigative teams visited the rented room where Sarfaraz had resided for the past six months. Inside the quarters, officers recovered a yellow dhoti along with a saffron kurta bearing the religious slogan "Jai Shri Ram".
In an exclusive interview broadcast by Zee News, the landlord revealed that Sarfaraz had traveled to Ayodhya on several occasions wearing the traditional saffron kurta and yellow dhoti. The landlord further stated that Sarfaraz had taken a ritual bath in the sacred Saryu River alongside a group of companions. However, the landlord noted that he had no knowledge regarding the identity or origins of those individuals.
Following these disclosures, law enforcement officials are working to establish why the student chose to wear traditional Hindu attire and whether these visits were tied to an organized plot or were personal in nature. The yellow dhoti has been taken into police custody for forensic examination. In addition, investigators found a handwritten poem inside the room, which has also been seized for literary and forensic analysis.

Sequence of Discovery and Chemical Contents
The security alarm was first raised on the morning of August 1st, when students reporting for the morning shift discovered the handwritten sheet left inside the medical college's X-ray room. The text detailed formulas related to bomb creation, prompting students to inform the administration, who contacted the police.
┌────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┐ │ EVIDENCE SUBSTANCES RECOVERED │ ├────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┤ │ • Ammonium Nitrate • Potassium Nitrate • Aluminium Carbonate│ │ • Red Phosphorus • Sulfur • Nitric Acid │ │ • Carbolic Acid • Hand-Drawn Diagrams • Annotated Graphs │ └────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┘
Copies of the document indicate that the notes contained specific references to constructing and detonating an improvised explosive device (IED). The text listed several chemical compound combinations, including ammonium nitrate, potassium nitrate, aluminium carbonate, red phosphorus, sulfur, nitric acid, and carbolic acid. It featured technical notes on ignition, thermal build-up, and explosive reactions, complete with hand-drawn structural diagrams depicting a bomb mechanism.
The notes also included descriptive annotations and a rough graph illustrating the theoretical operational sequence of the mechanism. Security analysts suspect the material was transcribed from online sources, as mainstream movies rarely provide such precise, step-by-step instructions for fabricating functioning explosives.

Joint Agency Investigation and Digital Findings
Following the discovery, officers from the Darshan Nagar Police Station detained Sarfaraz for interrogation. His colleague Abhishek, who was present during the night shift, was also brought in for questioning. A third staff member, Subhash from Sultanpur, had left for his home village earlier that morning.
Due to the severity of the incident, multiple specialized investigative divisions were brought in to assist, including the Special Operations Group (SOG), the Special Task Force (STF), the Special Branch, and the Intelligence Bureau (IB).
During preliminary interrogation, Sarfaraz claimed that he had experienced insomnia during his night shift and decided to watch a film about freedom fighter Bhagat Singh on his laptop. He stated that after watching scenes depicting bomb assembly, he wrote down the formulas on paper before falling asleep, and that the sheet was later discovered by sanitation personnel and incoming staff.
However, a technical forensic examination of his mobile phone revealed multiple internet search queries related to explosive fabrication. Furthermore, investigators discovered saved Instagram video reels detailing bomb components and explosion techniques on his profile. Officers are working to determine whether these queries stemmed from casual curiosity or pointed toward a broader intent.

Associated Acquaintances and Family Background
Authorities are currently attempting to locate Sarfaraz’s roommate, who had traveled to his hometown in Basti about a week prior. Efforts are also underway to identify and interview the individuals who accompanied him during his visits to Ayodhya.
According to local residents in Balrampur, Sarfaraz is the youngest of six siblings, comprising four brothers and two sisters. His eldest brother works for a private firm in Balrampur, his second brother operates a dental clinic in Shravasti, and his third brother resides in Saudi Arabia, providing financial support to the household. His father passed away approximately eighteen months ago. His mother and unmarried sister reside in Balrampur, while his married sister lives in Mumbai. Neighbors noted that Sarfaraz routinely returned home on Saturdays before returning to his studies in Ayodhya on Monday mornings.
Senior officials reiterated that the multi-agency investigation remains active and that all statements and evidence are undergoing systematic verification. Police leadership has urged the public to refrain from spreading unverified speculation until all official findings are formally released.
