Nineteen-year-old Mohammad Sajid is arrested in Jammu after police uncover online radicalisation, links to Pakistani handlers, and suspicious visits to crowded and religious places across the city

A 19-year-old young man named Mohammad Sajid was taken into custody in Jammu on 23rd November after police suspected him of online radicalisation and planning a terror-related activity.

Sajid belongs to the Reasi district but had been staying in the Bathindi locality of Jammu. Police registered an FIR at Bahu Fort Police Station under Section 113(3) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Officials said that when he realised he was under watch, he tried to escape, but officers caught him quickly and found a mobile phone with him at the time.
During the initial inquiry, investigators discovered that Sajid had been visiting several sensitive and heavily crowded places in Jammu in recent days. When police checked his mobile phone’s location details, they saw he had been present in busy public spots, including railway stations and bus terminals. Authorities also suspect that he may have entered certain religious sites. Because he repeatedly appeared in such places, police believe he might have been doing reconnaissance to study the surroundings for a possible attack.
Investigating teams found that Sajid had been receiving edited and provocative jihadi videos on his phone. These were reportedly sent by a handler based in Pakistan. According to officials, these videos were meant to brainwash him, provoke extremist thinking, and push him toward terror activities. This information suggests that Sajid was being systematically radicalised and encouraged to become involved in terrorism. Police are now checking if he had any links to a terror group and whether he attempted to influence or recruit any other individuals.
Security teams are also trying to determine if he had been assigned to carry out a particular attack or if he was only in the early preparation stage. Because of these suspicions, security has been strengthened at important locations across the city to ensure public safety.

Contact with Pakistani handler and suspicious digital evidence
Earlier investigation points show that Sajid had communicated with phone numbers linked to Pakistan and some other foreign countries. Police believe that the people behind these numbers may have tried to guide or instruct him. His seized mobile phone contained worrying material, including messaging app chats and WhatsApp conversations, which made officers suspect that he was preparing for an unlawful and possibly violent act. Initial evidence strongly indicates that he was radicalised online.
All of Sajid’s digital devices were taken by police and sent for a detailed forensic check. Experts are now examining his call logs, chat histories, browsing records, and any stored files to find out if there is a wider network involved. The evidence so far shows that he was regularly in touch with foreign contacts. Investigators are trying to understand how he contacted these people for the first time and whether someone else in the area is connected to the same network.
Police officials said that an extensive investigation is underway. Sajid is being questioned thoroughly to learn about his intentions and how deeply he was involved. The foreign phone numbers he communicated with are also being verified one by one.
Sajid was living in a rented room in Bathindi, claiming that he was preparing for the NEET exam to become a doctor. To avoid raising suspicion, he often visited a private library in the area for study sessions. Even with this cover, his movement eventually caught the attention of security agencies. After monitoring him, officers finally stopped him at a checkpoint and arrested him.
