Gau Rakshak Chandrashekhar alias Farsa Wale Baba killed in Mathura, highway protests trigger unrest

A serious situation unfolded in Uttar Pradesh’s Mathura after the death of a Gau Rakshak, Chandrashekhar Maharaj, widely known among his followers as “Farsa Wale Baba”. The incident took place in the early hours of Saturday, 21st March, and quickly led to widespread unrest in the region.

According to initial information, the incident occurred around 4 am in the Kosi police station area. Early reports suggested that he lost his life after being struck by a truck on the highway. The timing and circumstances of the incident created immediate suspicion among locals and followers, leading to multiple versions of what might have happened.

In the hours following the incident, claims began to circulate that the Gau Rakshak had been targeted by cow smugglers. These claims, although not officially confirmed at that time, intensified emotions among his supporters. What began as concern soon turned into anger, with people gathering in large numbers to protest against what they believed was a deliberate act.

The situation escalated rapidly as supporters of Farsa Wale Baba took to the Delhi-Agra highway. Protests soon turned aggressive, with incidents of stone pelting reported from multiple points along the road. Demonstrators demanded strict action against those they believed were responsible for the death.

As news of the incident spread across Mathura, it triggered widespread outrage. Thousands of supporters blocked the Delhi-Agra Highway, bringing traffic to a complete halt. The disruption stretched for several kilometres, leaving commuters stranded for hours. During the protests, several vehicles were damaged as stones were thrown, and windows were shattered. The atmosphere in the area became highly tense and unpredictable.

Taking note of the situation, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath intervened and directed officials to ensure that strict action is taken. Authorities were instructed to bring the situation under control and prevent further escalation.

The intensity of the protests also resulted in damage to police vehicles deployed at the site. In an effort to control the crowd and restore order, the police were forced to use tear gas shells. The use of force was aimed at dispersing the protesters and preventing further violence.

Farsa Baba had stopped a vehicle over suspicion of cow smuggling

According to reports, the sequence of events leading to the incident began when Farsa Wale Baba received information about a truck allegedly involved in illegal cow transportation. Acting on this tip-off, he reportedly began पीछा, chasing the suspected vehicle along the highway.

He eventually managed to intercept and stop the vehicle near the Navipur area. However, while he was near the truck, another vehicle approached on the same road and struck him. The impact proved fatal, leading to his death on the spot.

This chain of events, especially the involvement of multiple vehicles, contributed to confusion and speculation about whether the incident was accidental or intentional.

Commotion and stone pelting by supporters

The death of Farsa Baba sparked immediate and strong reactions from his supporters. Within a short time, large groups gathered near Chhata and surrounding areas, blocking the Delhi-Agra highway completely.

The road blockade caused a massive traffic jam that extended for several kilometres. Vehicles remained stuck as the protest intensified, with no immediate resolution in sight.

Supporters openly claimed that the incident was not an accident but a planned act. They raised slogans, expressing anger and grief, and demanded the immediate arrest of all individuals they believed were responsible.

As tensions rose, the situation turned volatile. Protesters began throwing stones at passing vehicles, leading to damage and creating panic among commuters. The unrest forced authorities to increase their presence in the region.

A heavy deployment of police personnel was made to manage the crowd and prevent further escalation. Despite these efforts, the situation remained tense for a considerable period, with officials closely monitoring developments on the ground.

Police statement: No cow smuggling, truck was loaded with grocery goods

Following the violence and growing speculation, the Mathura Police issued an official statement to clarify the circumstances surrounding the incident.

They stated that Chandrasekhar, also known as Farsa Baba, had stopped a truck based on suspicion of cow smuggling. However, according to the police findings, the situation unfolded differently than initially believed.

The police said, “Due to dense fog on the road, another truck coming on the road hit him, and he died on the spot. The truck that Farsa Baba had stopped was carrying only grocery items. The collision that caused the death of Farsa Baba has also damaged the second truck, and the driver has been injured. The second truck was also carrying items like wires. The driver and helper are both from Alwar and are under treatment”.

Through this statement, the police made it clear that no evidence of cow smuggling had been found in connection with the stopped vehicle.

The authorities further added that the protests and roadblocks created by supporters had been cleared. Those involved in blocking the highway were removed, and the situation was brought under control using necessary force.

Officials confirmed that normal movement on the Delhi-Agra highway has now resumed. They also stated that further procedural steps are ongoing as part of the investigation, and the matter continues to be handled under close supervision.
