"कमबख़्त इश्क़ है जो…": Mahakumbh viral girl Monalisa found minor as NCST probe reveals fake Kerala marriage documents, husband Farman Khan booked under POCSO after Madhya Pradesh records expose truth in major legal twists

The story of Monalisa, a young girl who captured the internet's attention during the 2025 Maha Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj, has taken a deeply troubling turn. Originally recognized for a viral video where she was seen simply selling traditional rudraksh garlands, her sudden rise to social media fame has now been overshadowed by a serious legal and legal investigation.

Recent inquiries have exposed that Monalisa, who recently made headlines for her marriage to a Muslim man named Farman Khan, is actually an underage girl. This shocking revelation came to light following a thorough, official probe conducted by the National Commission for Scheduled Tribes (NCST). The investigation was spearheaded by the Commission's Chairman, Antar Singh Arya. During the inquiry, Arya confirmed not only that the young internet sensation is a minor, but also that she belongs to the marginalized Pardhi tribal community.
The core of the issue lies in a severe discrepancy regarding her age. Authentic medical records retrieved from a government hospital in Maheshwar, located in the state of Madhya Pradesh, explicitly document her date of birth as December 30, 2009. This crucial piece of evidence confirms that she was merely 16 years old at the time she was married to Khan.
To facilitate this unlawful union, it has been discovered that a fabricated birth certificate was utilized in the state of Kerala. When the wedding ceremony took place at a local religious site, the organizers reportedly verified the couple's ages using only their standard Aadhaar cards, without demanding further background checks. Following these alarming discoveries, law enforcement stepped in. The Madhya Pradesh police have officially registered a First Information Report (FIR) against the accused. Given the severity of the situation, the charges have been filed under several strict legal frameworks, including the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), the SC/ST Act, and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. Furthermore, government authorities have issued strict orders to immediately cancel the fraudulent marriage documents, which had been improperly registered at a local gram panchayat office in Kerala.

THE COURSE OF THE INVESTIGATION
The detailed probe started at the very location where the marriage was solemnized: the Nainar Deva Temple in Kerala. When questioned by the investigating team, the temple administration maintained that they allowed the ceremony to proceed based strictly on the age details printed on the couple's Aadhaar cards. However, the legal validation of the marriage happened later at a local Gram Panchayat office, where the couple submitted a birth certificate that investigators have now definitively labeled as a forgery.
This fake certificate, supposedly issued by the Maheshwar Municipality, falsely claimed Monalisa's date of birth was January 1, 2008. This fabricated date is nearly two full years earlier than what her actual government hospital birth records prove. Recognizing the severity of this forgery, the NCST has firmly directed local civic authorities to nullify the fraudulent document immediately.
Beyond the immediate legal offenses of child marriage and forgery, the Commission has also drawn attention to a potentially deeper conspiracy involving various political actors and organizations. On March 17, Advocate Pratham Dubey formally presented these concerning details before the Commission. During his presentation, Dubey made serious claims suggesting that local leaders associated with the CPI(M) in Kerala, along with members of the Popular Front of India (PFI), played an active role in orchestrating and facilitating this underage marriage.
Adding another layer of complexity to the case, the advocate further alleged that this entire marriage was not a simple union, but rather a calculated, deliberate attempt by these groups to manufacture a counter-narrative around the highly debated concept of "Love Jihad." Taking these multifaceted allegations with the utmost seriousness, the National Commission for Scheduled Tribes has taken strict administrative action. The Commission has officially summoned the highest-ranking police officials—the Directors General of Police (DGPs)—from both Kerala and Madhya Pradesh. They are required to appear in person at the Commission's headquarters in New Delhi on April 22 of this year. To ensure the investigation does not lose momentum, the NCST has also mandated that both state police departments submit a detailed progress report on the case every three days until the matter is entirely and justly resolved.
