"ईसा मसीह धर्मपरिवर्तन वाले, तेरा वार न जाए खाली": Following massive ED raids exposing illegal foreign funding in Jharkhand, a secret playbook by The Timothy Initiative reveals exactly how trained missionaries target and dismantle rural Hindu beliefs

On the 18th and 19th of April, India’s premier financial investigation agency, the Enforcement Directorate (ED), executed a series of coordinated raids across multiple locations tied to a group known as The Timothy Initiative (TTI). According to the official findings of the investigation, TTI managed to withdraw a staggering 95 crores in a mere six-month window. This was accomplished by utilizing foreign bank debit cards across various Indian states. A deeply concerning detail from these financial movements is that 6.5 crores of this total was withdrawn in the Naxal-affected region of Jharkhand.

In executing these transactions, the organization actively bypassed the stringent regulations set forth by the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act (FCRA), a legal framework managed by the Ministry of Home Affairs to monitor foreign donations. The investigation highlighted a glaring violation: TTI is not even officially registered under the FCRA to receive such funds.
During our extensive editorial research into the group's operations, we uncovered a library of 10 books published by TTI, which its members strictly adhere to when attempting to convert Hindus and individuals of other faiths. Interestingly, the first nine books maintain a secular facade, making no direct mention of any religion. However, the tenth book drops this veil entirely. It serves as a comprehensive training manual specifically designed for "church planting leaders". This text provides step-by-step instructions on how to safely approach Hindu individuals, successfully penetrate villages with majority Hindu populations, and ultimately persuade the residents to abandon their ancestral faith.
Chapter 3 of this particular manual is boldly titled "World Religions and Cults". In this section, the organization instructs these church planters to evaluate all other religions strictly against the "standard of Scriptures". The manual goes on to provide highly specific tactical advice, offering suggestions for apologetic arguments and methods of witnessing, all geared toward coercing Hindus into converting to Christianity.
As journalists, we believe it is crucial to analyze exactly how TTI characterizes Hinduism, as the text clearly positions it as the primary target for eradication. The section dedicated to the Hindu faith is by no means an objective academic study, nor is it a fair theological comparison. Rather, it functions as a deeply practical, on-the-ground guide for manipulating Hindus and accelerating missionary expansion within their communities.

How TTI focuses on Hindu settlements for religious shifting
The manual outlines a highly strategic blueprint to dismantle the foundational beliefs of practicing Hindus, taking particular aim at the reverence for multiple Gods. To bridge the gap, the text encourages missionaries to present Jesus Christ as an 'avatar' to the Hindu demographic. The underlying logic is that using familiar native terminology makes it significantly easier to lure individuals into the conversion pipeline.
The strategy goes deeper into philosophical territory. The book instructs its workers to tackle the Hindu concept of sin, which is traditionally viewed as a form of spiritual ignorance rather than an act of moral rebellion. It also demands that the ancient doctrines of karma and reincarnation be debated in a calculated manner, specifically designed to make Hindus question and eventually abandon their lifelong beliefs.
To its credit, the training manual accurately defines that the ultimate spiritual goal of a practicing Hindu is to achieve release from the endless cycle of karma and rebirth. It acknowledges the vast, layered history of Hindu scriptures, noting the central importance of the Vedas, the Upanishads, and the Bhagavad Gita. However, this accurate summary of Hindu doctrine is merely a setup. Immediately following this description, the manual abruptly pivots to a heavily tactical section labeled "Apologetic Responses and Witnessing Suggestions". This sudden shift removes any doubt about the book's true intent: it is not meant to educate its readers about Hinduism, but rather to teach them how to intervene and disrupt it.
The very layout of this text is revealing. It does not simply list what Hindus believe; it dictates exactly how a missionary should verbally counter those beliefs. In clear, practical terms, Hindu communities are viewed entirely as unconquered mission territories. Their ancient faith is treated as a psychological battlefield that must be systematically conquered through targeted arguments, psychological persuasion, and highly choreographed outreach programs. This is far from innocent theology; it is a militant conversion playbook.

‘Seek grace upon arrival’ – Vilification of Hindu deities and native faith
Perhaps the most alarming and offensive element of the entire publication is its blatant demonization of Hindu theology and its revered Gods. The manual provides a chilling instruction to its readers: "Understand that most Hindu villages are possessed with evil spirits, or a Hindu god that watches over them."
It attempts to justify this extreme view by adding, "Missiologists call this a territorial spirit. The spirit that has power for that particular village only."
Following this severe mischaracterization, the book issues a direct, non-negotiable command to the evangelists: "When you enter into the village pray for protection and power from the Holy Spirit to remove any sort of disruptions that the evil spirits may attempt."
This choice of words is not an accident of translation or a casual oversight. It is a deliberate framing tool used to paint traditional Hindu villages not as peaceful communities with differing worldviews, but as dark, spiritually hostile battlegrounds infected by malevolent forces. By placing "evil spirits" and "a Hindu god" in the exact same sentence and context, the manual unambiguously teaches that Hindu deities are demonic entities. The rural Indian village is thus categorized as a zone under dark supernatural occupation, a stronghold that the missionary must aggressively pray against before any actual conversion work can commence.
It is worth noting that this extreme rhetoric is not isolated to TTI alone. A growing faction of fundamentalist Christians and aggressive evangelists routinely refer to Hindu deities as 'demons'. This hostile labeling is frequently directed at highly revered figures such as Maa Kali and Bhagwan Shiv. Similar derogatory language is often utilized by self-proclaimed atheists, ex-Muslims, and radical Islamists. A quick survey of the internet reveals that social media posts by Christian fundamentalists referring to Maa Kali as a demon are widespread. Disturbingly, these major tech platforms rarely remove such offensive content, entirely ignoring the profound injury it causes to the religious sentiments of millions of Hindus worldwide.

Phased approach and quiet infiltration to dodge rural scrutiny
The authors of the TTI manual are fully aware of the reality on the ground. The book openly acknowledges that missionaries often encounter intense hostility when they enter Hindu-majority villages, noting that they are frequently accused of engaging in forced or deceitful conversions.
Analyzing the demographic, the text points out that "many times the people you witness to are unable to read or write". Because of this, the manual issues a stark warning to its field workers: "in many places it may attract suspicion or cause problems to carry a Bible or show the Jesus film."
This admission is highly significant. It proves that the leadership at The Timothy Initiative fully understands that open, honest Christian proselytization is generally unwelcome in these communities. They know that carrying visible tools of their trade—like a physical Bible or media equipment—will instantly trigger doubt and rightful opposition from the locals.
Yet, rather than pausing to respect the boundaries of these communities or reconsidering the ethics of their mission in the face of local resistance, the organization simply changes its disguise. The book provides a covert alternative entry strategy. It orders missionaries to "memorise Scriptures so that you are rich in the word of God". By operating purely through oral communication rather than carrying physical books or showing films, the evangelist can blend in more easily. The primary concern here is clearly not the ethical appropriateness of invading a resistant cultural space. The only concern is figuring out how to push forward with the conversion agenda in a way that avoids drawing attention and prevents the villagers from asking difficult questions.

Subtle methods replace overt sermons: Music, rapport, phased outreach
To successfully bypass the natural defenses of a village, the manual instructs the missionaries to "witness with the Word of God in your heart and mind, tell Bible stories, quote Scripture, sing songs, and pray with them."
This is a textbook example of employing soft tactics for religious infiltration. Because a missionary cannot walk into the village holding a Bible or setting up a projector without being caught, they are trained to rely on a gentler facade: sharing casual stories, singing local songs, joining in community prayer, and reciting memorized verses. While the ultimate objective remains firmly fixed on erasing the Hindu identity and securing a Christian conversion, the methodology becomes far more socially digestible and significantly less confrontational.
These careful instructions demonstrate the highly calculated nature of TTI's outreach. They do not suggest singing songs and telling stories because these methods are culturally respectful or emotionally warm. They suggest them strictly because the environment dictates that carrying clear Christian literature "may attract suspicion". This reveals these soft methods as calculated tactical camouflage. The manual is actively training its agents to embed themselves deeply into the interpersonal fabric of the village, utilizing slow, gradual messaging when a direct, honest sermon would result in immediate expulsion.

Challenging native systems – Tackling karma, rebirth, and basic doctrine
The manual drops its soft approach when it comes to internally training the missionary on how to attack the core pillars of Hindu philosophy. It accurately describes the Hindu system of karma as a universal law where every action carries a consequence that stretches across multiple lifetimes and rebirths. However, it quickly arms the missionary with a sharp rebuttal, boldly claiming that "karma does not allow forgiveness".
This specific interpretation is weaponized as the foundation for the Christian counter-argument. The manual insists that evangelists must convince Hindus that Jesus Christ is the only figure capable of freeing them from the "shame, guilt, and trying to work off debt from karma."
This exact blueprint of intellectual dismantling is applied to the concepts of sin and spiritual salvation. The guide notes that the Hindu framework perceives sin as "the result of ignorance, not moral rebellion". It then commands its followers to argue the exact opposite. Missionaries are trained to confront Hindus and insist that sin is deeply "personal". They must argue that it is "not merely a matter of ignorance, but of disobedience". Finally, they are to frame the entire human experience as a "broken relationship with God".
Once the missionary has successfully created this sense of guilt and brokenness, the final step is to introduce the concept of Christian confession and forgiveness as the exclusive cure. This is not a friendly exchange of ideas between two different religions. It is a highly aggressive, targeted campaign designed to completely demolish foundational Hindu philosophies and seamlessly replace them with foreign Christian doctrines.

From spiritual schooling to a structured proselytisation manual
When analyzing this text—particularly the chapters focused on dismantling Hinduism—a clear and deeply concerning pattern emerges. This goes far beyond the boundaries of routine, legally permissible evangelism. The calculated, secretive nature of these tactics strongly suggests that TTI’s operational strategy is designed specifically to avoid detection by local communities and to prevent coming face-to-face with law enforcement agencies like the ED.
The broader implications of this manual are severe. This is not a matter of an individual sharing their personal faith. This represents a massive, well-funded organization utilizing a highly structured, psychological training module that views ancient Hindu communities simply as raw material for conversion. They actively train their staff to view the sacred traditions of India as spiritually polluted and demonic. The book is, ultimately, a masterclass in how to quietly enter a protected space, adapt to the surroundings, manipulate the residents, and neutralize any natural suspicion until the conversion is complete.
The Timothy Initiative is not a new player in this field; it was officially established in 2007. The organization's founder, David Nelms, has deep roots in this mission, having first visited India around the year 1992. Over the decades, David has returned to Indian soil numerous times to expand his network. Today, the mantle of leadership has been passed down to his son, Jared Nelms, who currently serves as the president of the organization. Jared continues to aggressively follow in his father's footsteps, funneling resources to plant new churches deep within India and to convert as many practicing Hindus as humanly possible to Christianity.
In the forthcoming chapters of this investigative series, our editorial team will break down the intricate logistics of how this organization functions on a daily basis. We will expose how TTI establishes dark connections with other underground missionary programs, creating a massive, coordinated network designed to systematically convert Hindus across multiple Indian states.
