Border Alarm: Civil Society Group Warns of Chinese Advances and Infrastructure Projects in Taksing

A local civil society organization in Arunachal Pradesh has raised serious concerns regarding border security, claiming that Chinese forces have stepped into Indian territories along the border to build extensive infrastructure on local land. The Nah Welfare Society (NWS), a community-based organization rooted in the Taksing region, formally alleged that the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) has crossed into Indian territory within the Taksing circle, which is located in the Upper Subansiri district.

The group stated that the PLA has taken over multiple strategically important zones to establish military camps, roads, and bridges. In response to these developments, the NWS has submitted an official letter to the local administration, urgently requesting immediate measures to reclaim and secure these Indian territories.

In an official representation dated June 26, 2026, which was formally sent to the Deputy Commissioner of Upper Subansiri District at the headquarters in Daporijo, NWS president Shri Keru Chader expressed the community's “profound feeling of grief” regarding the ongoing border situation. On behalf of the community, he requested swift and decisive intervention from both the state government of Arunachal Pradesh and the central Government of India.

The formal communication detailed how the Chinese government is “very fast expanding their territory by occupying new and important places of our land situated in the border area.” According to the detailed representation, the PLA has actively built roads, bridges, and military camps directly on ancestral lands. For generations, these specific areas have been traditionally used by the local indigenous population for hunting, gathering essential forest produce, and grazing their cattle. The organization pointed out that these infrastructure activities have continuously intensified over the last 10 to 15 years, showing a sharp, aggressive increase in efforts to occupy as much land as possible. Crucially, the NWS claims that locations which were completely under stable Indian control prior to the year 2020 have now been occupied by the PLA.

Elaborating further on the loss of territorial access, the letter explicitly states that “very important areas which were our lands before 2020 are now under the occupation of the Chinese PLA and they have set up Military camps and constructed well connected roads within last five years.” The Nah Welfare Society identified the specific locations currently under Chinese PLA occupation as Oying (2445) in the Asaphila area, Paniar (specifically within the Chujarta area), Marpan (also known as Marnafe), Potrang (near the Lake), and Tindingtang.

According to the organization, these geographical positions are situated very close to the Taksing circle headquarters. Furthermore, some of these targeted areas hold deep spiritual significance, serving as holy pilgrimage sites associated with the sacred Tsari region. To substantiate these claims, the civil society group attached photographic evidence to their official report, which purportedly shows the active encroachment and construction activities carried out by the Chinese forces.

While the Nah Welfare Society explicitly recognized and praised the continuous, dedicated efforts of the Indian Army personnel who are stationed to guard the harsh border terrain, the group noted that these defensive measures have unfortunately not been enough to halt the rapid momentum of the PLA's construction. “We are losing our land inch by inch day by day to them,” the letter highlighted, openly characterizing the unfolding situation as “a matter of grave concern” for the entire resident population living within the Taksing circle.

Concluding their appeal, the civil society group strongly urged the Deputy Commissioner to treat this issue with the highest priority. They requested that the local administration immediately escalate the matter to the State and Union Governments to ensure a high-level intervention capable of stopping any further structural activities by the Chinese PLA along the border.
