"कोई हमदम न रहा, कोई सहारा न रहा": Sanjay Raut tracks imaginary crores to Rajasthan while six runaway UBT MPs enjoy high-security vacations, proving Uddhav Thackeray’s empty threats and strict party whips are now Maharashtra’s favorite political joke

MUMBAI — It appears that managing a political party in Maharashtra is increasingly resembling a game of musical chairs, except the chairs are chartered flights and the music is the rustle of multi-crore bundles. In the latest dramatic turn of events, the Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena (UBT) faction is facing another existential headache.
Party strongman and professional fire-breather Sanjay Raut has thrown open a fresh chest of explosive allegations. On Thursday, Raut claimed that his party’s dissident Lok Sabha Members of Parliament (MPs) were handed a lavish parting gift—an additional Rs 10 crore each—and promptly smuggled across state lines to a "safe location" tucked away in Rajasthan.

The Empty Benches in New Delhi
This latest meltdown was triggered by a rather embarrassing roll call in the national capital. The Shiv Sena (UBT) had issued a strict, non-negotiable three-line whip demanding that all its elected representatives show up for a crucial parliamentary meeting in New Delhi.
Instead, the meeting room offered a panoramic view of empty chairs. Out of the party’s nine Lok Sabha MPs, a grand total of three bothered to show up.
| Attended the Meeting | Absent (The "Missing Six") |
| Arvind Sawant | Sanjay Dina Patil (Mumbai North East) |
| Anil Desai | Sanjay Deshmukh (Yavatmal-Washim) |
| Rajabhau Waje | Sanjay Jadhav (Parbhani) |
| Sanjay Raut (Lone Rajya Sabha MP) | Bhausaheb Wakchaure (Shirdi) |
| Nagesh Patil-Ashtikar (Hingoli) | |
| Omprakash Raje Nimbalkar (Osmanabad/Dharashiv) |
Naturally, Raut did not take the snub quietly. Livid at the mass truancy, he launched into a fiery sermon on political ethics, declaring, "If the rebel MPs have any morality, they should quit."
When moral appeals predictably failed to yield results, Raut quickly pivoted to what his faction does best: threatening street justice. He issued a grim warning to the missing lawmakers, proudly announcing that the party would unleash "Operation Tudwa" (an expressive local slang translating directly to a thorough thrashing or bashing up) against those who chose to bite the hand that fed them.
Labeling the absent lawmakers as low-down "traitors", Raut demanded that the state immediately strip away their official protection. "Traitors’ have been given police security, withdraw it," Raut barked during a press interaction.
Ironically, the Maharashtra Police did the exact opposite. Citing concrete threats and aggressive protests from angry grassroot party workers in the rebels' home constituencies, the state government swiftly blanketed the six missing lawmakers with a heavy-duty Y-Plus security cover. For those keeping score at home, that is a protective detail of 11 armed security personnel per MP, completely funded by the taxpayer.

The Exploding Cost of Defection
According to Raut's rapidly escalating math, the price of a politician's loyalty in Maharashtra is currently experiencing hyper-inflation. Just days earlier, the Rajya Sabha MP had claimed that his colleagues were being lured over to the rival Eknath Shinde camp with promises of an impressive Rs 15 crore advance.
By his next press briefing, that figure had miraculously tripled.
“I got a call from an important person," Raut revealed to a crowd of microphones. "He said each MP was offered ₹50 crore to leave the party. ₹15 crore was given as an advance. I was even told the MPs were not willing to sit in the chartered planes till they were given the advance.”
To make matters worse for the UBT camp, the crisis is no longer just a war of words. Rumors are swirling that the missing six have already banded together, drafted a formal declaration, and sent it straight to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla. According to insider sources, the group is looking to exploit a classic parliamentary loophole: under anti-defection laws, a breakaway group needs a two-thirds majority to avoid getting disqualified. Since the UBT group holds nine seats, exactly six MPs are required to cleanly break away and force a merger with Chief Minister Eknath Shinde's faction without losing their parliamentary badges.
Raut, however, challenged the rebels to produce receipts. Pointing to a recent official huddle, he grumbled: “When we met the Speaker yesterday, a photo came out in public domain. If the other 6 MPs met the Speaker, show us a photo of the same...This is not called strategy, this is betrayal. They are still the members of our party and won on our symbol. If they have violated the party whip, they will have to face legal action...BJP has dirtied country's politics, especially in Maharashtra, and they will have to pay a price.”

The Shinde Camp Enjoys the Show
While the UBT camp scrambles to issue legal threats, the ruling alliance is watching the house burn down with visible amusement. Maharashtra Cabinet Minister and Shinde-faction loyalist Sanjay Shirsat completely dismissed any underhanded involvement by his party in what Raut calls "Operation Tiger."
“This unrest is not new and has been going for a year. It just came out yesterday,” Shirsat remarked dryly, insisting that the mass exodus is entirely a self-inflicted wound. “We have nothing to do with this 'Operation Tiger', and it is completely their internal issue.”
Instead, Shirsat pointed the finger squarely at Raut’s notorious mouth as the root cause of the party's decay. “The workers are fed up with the people who have damaged their party. People will kick them now instead. Raut peeped into other political parties and destroyed them. Wherever these leaders go, they make a mess everywhere,” Shirsat smirked, adding a final cheeky compliment for his own boss: “Eknath Shinde is a leader who does the operation and also makes it successful.”
From the Union Government's side, Minister Ramdas Athawale also stepped up to dismiss Raut’s multi-crore bribery claims as absolute fantasy, daring the journalist-politician to produce a single shred of actual evidence. Athawale maintained that opposition lawmakers are jumping onto the NDA bandwagon completely voluntarily, driven purely by their unshakeable faith in Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Union Minister Pratap Jadhav echoed this sentiment, casually stating that it is no longer a question of if the remaining UBT lawmakers switch sides, but merely when.

A Direct Subtext of Cuss Words and Show-Cause Notices
As the reality of the split sets in, the language coming out of the UBT camp has degraded from standard political rhetoric to unprintable gutter vocabulary. Following the disastrous Delhi meeting, an unhinged Raut explicitly instructed television reporters not to filter his rage.
"Don't cut it, run it," Raut commanded, before launching into a highly abusive tirade, calling the absent MPs "traitors, dishonest, and frauds," alongside much heavier, unbroadcastable local profanities like "gau" and "coward gau". He also mocked the rebels' sudden spiritual turn, asking sarcastically, "Are the traitors seeking God's blessings?" as they reportedly visited temples to pray for their political survival.
Trying to inject some semblance of institutional order into the chaos, fellow party MP Anil Desai confirmed that formal disciplinary wheels have been set in motion. Show-cause notices have officially been fired off to the cellphones of the missing six.
"The meeting just got over, show-cause notice was sent today," Desai stated on Thursday. When pressed on how exactly they plan to penalize the rogue lawmakers, he explained the administrative process: "Action is this only: show-cause notice. Why didn't you come? That will be asked. Notice will be given to everyone who didn't come."
Desai made it clear that the party isn't accepting the "faulty network" excuse either. "Questions will be like: you were informed, you were messaged, you were WhatsApped, you received it too. And you didn't give any reason if you were coming or not, so your absence will be looked at that way."

The Contagion Spreads Beyond Maharashtra
This sudden epidemic of crumbling opposition parties isn't unique to Mumbai. Just a week prior, the Lok Sabha watched in shock as 20 rebel Trinamool Congress (TMC) MPs abruptly merged themselves into the obscure Nationalist Citizens Party of India (NCPI) to shore up support for the ruling NDA.
Meanwhile, down in Uttar Pradesh, a remarkably similar script is being teased. UP Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya and regional ally Om Prakash Rajbhar have loudly claimed that a massive political earthquake is rocking the Samajwadi Party, boasting that roughly 25 to 26 of Akhilesh Yadav's 37 Lok Sabha MPs are actively sitting on their suitcases, waiting for the right signal to defect to the BJP.
Naturally, Akhilesh Yadav hurried to issue an angry denial, stating, "The SP remains united. It weathered many ups and downs in its journey. It is a strong party, and it remains so," while accusing the BJP of using state pressure and massive cash inducements to break democratic parties.
Back in Maharashtra, the political marketplace remains wide open, and the rhetoric is moving from the assembly halls to physical altercations. As a defensive Congress leader Husain Dalwai rightly pointed out, jumping ship after winning votes on an anti-BJP ticket using the combined power of the INDIA bloc is fundamentally wrong. He challenged the rebels to stand down, resign, and contest fresh elections on a BJP ticket.
But with Raut declaring that "this fight will happen in Parliament, it will happen in court, and it will also happen on the streets," Mumbaikars are buckled up for a long, messy, and highly entertaining political winter.
