"जुनून-ए-इश्क": In Amroha, Uttar Pradesh, a woman courageously filed a complaint against Wasim, Qasim, Dilnawaz, Kamil, and Munna, accusing them of threatening acid attacks and implicating her brothers in false cases if she refused to marry Wasim
In a disturbing event in Amroha, Uttar Pradesh, a serious allegation has been lodged by a young woman against a local man named Wasim. The complaint, which has shuddered the local community, involves threats of grievous harm and defamation. According to the filed complaint, Wasim allegedly possesses an explicit video of the woman and has threatened to distribute it on social media platforms. The threats escalated to include a horrifying promise of an acid attack along with framing her brothers in a fabricated rape case.

This alarming situation unfolded on May 8th, and it wasn't until May 14th that a First Information Report (FIR) was officially registered. The FIR includes not only Wasim but also four other associates—Qasim, Dilnawaz, Kamil, and Munna. These individuals are now under investigation by the police for their roles in the alleged harassment and threats.
The complaint was made in the Kotwali Nagar area of the Amroha district. The victim, residing in the same locality as the accused, detailed in her complaint the continuous harassment she has endured. She described how Wasim has been a persistent source of distress, pressuring her relentlessly to marry him. However, her refusal led to Wasim’s threatening revelation that he had obtained obscene footage of her, which he claimed he would publicize if she continued to resist his demands.
The police have begun their investigation into these grave accusations and are taking necessary steps to ensure the safety of the victim and her family while upholding the law. The community waits anxiously as justice unfolds, hoping for a resolution that restores peace and security to the affected family.
In a chilling continuation of her harrowing experience, the girl shared further distressing details with her brothers. Upon learning about the threats against her, her brothers confronted Wasim, only to face dire threats themselves. Wasim brazenly threatened to falsely implicate them in a rape case involving his disabled sister. This threat instilled deep fear in her brothers, yet Wasim's audacity only seemed to grow stronger from their intimidation.
Further exacerbating the situation, Wasim directly contacted the girl once more, escalating his threats significantly. He chillingly warned her that he would not hesitate to disfigure her with acid and even threaten her life if she refused to marry him. Such heinous threats have highlighted the severe nature of Wasim's coercion tactics, causing great concern for the girl’s safety and well-being.
The gravity of the situation was underscored by an incident that occurred on the evening of May 8th. The girl recounted a particularly traumatic event when she and her sister-in-law were walking home from the market. Around 7 pm, as they passed a street behind the local mosque, they were abruptly confronted by Wasim and his associates. The culprits menacingly declared, “We won’t leave you to show your face anywhere after today.” Following this threat, they attempted to abduct her. In a desperate bid for safety, she began to scream, which thankfully drew the attention of passersby, causing people to gather around, thereby preventing the abduction.
The victim articulated the severity of her situation, expressing a grave concern that had it not been for the timely intervention of bystanders, the consequences would have been disastrous. She lamented, "An untoward instance would have happened if people had not come together and my life would have been ruined." She also accused Wasim of severely damaging her reputation by distributing her photographs across various social media platforms.
For a considerable time, fear kept her from speaking out. The constant threat and public humiliation caused her immense distress. Nevertheless, the victim eventually found the strength to break her silence. She not only filed a complaint but also provided evidence of the photographs that were maliciously shared online by the accused, demonstrating her resolve to seek justice.
At the end of her detailed complaint, she called for stringent action against the aggressors. The police responded by formally registering a case against the five men: Wasim, Qasim, Dilnawaz (also known locally as Rohit), Kamil, and Munna. They are now facing charges under multiple sections of the Indian Penal Code: sections 294 (obscene acts and songs), 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace), and 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation), along with section 67 of the Information Technology Act, which deals with the publication of obscene content online.
It is also noted that both the victim and the accused are from the same community, which adds a layer of complexity to the social dynamics of the case. This case has not only highlighted the personal agony of the victim but also brought to light the broader issues of cyber harassment and physical threats that women often face within their own communities. The legal proceedings that follow will hopefully not only bring justice to the victim but also serve as a deterrent to such heinous acts in the future.
