The Gujarat Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) has once again intercepted a major threat to national security. On Sunday (9th November), officers arrested three individuals from Ahmedabad who were linked with the global terrorist organisation ISIS.

These men were taken into custody for planning violent attacks in different regions of India. As per officials, the arrests came after a long period of careful monitoring.

According to the ATS, the three suspects had been under surveillance for nearly a year. The team captured them at a time when they were attempting to supply weapons inside Gujarat. Officers stated that the terrorists had reached the state specifically to exchange weapons, and intelligence inputs suggested they were preparing to carry out strikes at several locations across the country. The trio was found to be part of two separate terror modules, and investigators are now trying to identify their intended targets as well as their communication links.

ATS teams have begun gathering more information from the suspects’ network and analysing the areas they had planned to attack. However, not all details have been made public at this stage because the investigation is still ongoing, and officers want to avoid compromising further leads.

This is not the only major breakthrough achieved by the Gujarat ATS this year. A few months earlier, in July, the squad successfully arrested five terrorists associated with Al-Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent (AQIS). Among them was a woman from Bengaluru who was running an online radicalisation module connected to Pakistan-based handlers.

The five individuals arrested included Fardin Sheikh, Saifulla Qureshi, Mohammad Faiq, and Zeeshan Ali. They were detained on July 22 after ATS officers discovered their involvement in spreading extremist propaganda linked to AQIS on various social media platforms. During this operation, the police recovered a semi-automatic pistol and live bullets from Zeeshan Ali’s residence.

The firearm was found at his Noida home during a follow-up raid, and the seizure was based on information provided by Zeeshan during interrogation. The entire operation was executed by Police Inspector Nikhil Brahmbhatt and Police Sub-Inspector A.R. Chaudhary, under the direct supervision of Deputy Superintendent of Police Virajeetsinh Parmar.

The arrested group is accused of instigating violence under the name of “Ghazwa-e-Hind”, promoting an armed uprising against India’s democratically elected government, and spreading hatred against non-Muslims. A case has been registered against them under several provisions of the Unlawful Activities Act, 1967 and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023.

Later, on July 27, the ATS made another key arrest—Shama Parveen from Bengaluru—who was identified as a major member of the online module. Her capture opened new investigative possibilities, and officers said they are continuing to uncover how these groups coordinated their terror activities across multiple states.
