Murder of a Minor: Trolley bag stuffed with body found in Kolkata canal, 'Mubarak' Tattoo on Right Arm Unveils Live-In Partner as the Culprit, Kolkata

Approximately 10 days ago, on July 23rd, a chilling discovery was made near a canal in the New Town area of Kolkata. Local workers clearing the overgrown vegetation stumbled upon a horrifying sight—a body was found encased in a red trolley bag, abandoned and soaked in blood, according to the police.

The scene unfolded early in the morning at 7 am when these workers noticed a blood-stained bag that seemed strangely undamaged amid the bushy surroundings. The discovery prompted an immediate call to the police, who quickly arrived at the site to handle the grim situation.

Upon initial examination, the identity of the deceased remained a mystery, stated a police officer from the Techno City station. The body was promptly sent for an autopsy to ascertain the cause of death and gather more clues that could lead to identifying the victim.

Authorities have indicated that solving this case might prove challenging. The area where the bag was found is notably secluded, lacking any form of CCTV surveillance that could have captured the gruesome act, making it difficult to track the movements around the time of the incident.

Early investigations suggest that whoever disposed of the body had intimate knowledge of the local geography, likely choosing this specific location due to its isolation and the absence of surveillance cameras.

The Techno City police have launched a thorough investigation into this alarming incident. The discovery was particularly startling due to the distinct tattoos on both of her hands, which became crucial for identification purposes. Among these tattoos, the name "Mubarak" inked on her right arm provided the critical breakthrough needed by the police to untangle the mystery surrounding her death.

According to the police, the victim was likely unconscious but still alive when she was disposed of in the water. The absence of physical assault was confirmed, but the unfortunate presence of only mud in her stomach painted a grim picture of her final moments. Out of the three tattoos adorning her hands, the one reading 'Mubarak' and the two eagle tattoos on the other hand were pivotal in the ongoing investigation.

"The woman has not been identified yet. We are using the tattoos for a lead. We have some leads from Howrah, but we have reason to believe she lived in either South 24 Parganas or the added areas of Kolkata," explained an officer actively involved in the case. The mystery deepens as the investigation extends across various locales, seeking to piece together the last chapters of her life.

Her body was retrieved from beneath the Shantinagar canal bridge in Regent Park around 3:10 pm on a fateful Tuesday. Dressed in an orange dress paired with black pants, the woman presented more questions than answers, with her identity remaining unknown well into the following Wednesday.

Further investigations at MR Bangur Superspeciality Hospital revealed disturbing details. The autopsy, performed on Wednesday, suggested that she had been alive during the harrowing ordeal of being stuffed into the gunny bag and thrown into the canal. This rare and unsettling conclusion of the post-mortem highlighted the brutal circumstances of her death.

Adding to the complexity, the police noted that the woman bore injury marks on the back of her head and showed signs of prolonged intravenous drug use, evident from the track marks on her hands. "She had needle marks on her hands," disclosed an officer at Lalbazar, the headquarters of Kolkata Police, underscoring the challenging lifestyle she might have led prior to her tragic demise.

According to the police, the track marks found on the victim's hands are indicative of intravenous drug use. "She had an eagle tattoo on one hand and the word 'mubarak' (congratulations) inscribed on another," an officer detailed, noting the distinct tattoos that have been crucial in piecing together her identity.

While these findings remain preliminary, authorities are awaiting a more comprehensive report that is expected to provide a clearer understanding of the events that led to her death. The ongoing investigation slowly pieced together her last known movements and connections, shedding light on her personal life, which might have contributed to the tragedy.

The breakthrough in the case came when the police learned that the girl was from Sarsuna and had last been seen leaving her home on June 20. It wasn't until July 28th that a significant lead was followed up; Papiya Chakraborty, distressed by the disappearance of her daughter, filed a missing person's report at the Sarshuna Police Station. She reported her daughter missing since July 21st. When shown photos of the recovered body and the distinctive tattoo, she confirmed the identity of her daughter.

Papiya Chakraborty revealed to the authorities that her daughter had been involved in a live-in relationship with a 19-year-old youth named Rahul Mubarak, who also worked as a cab driver. She mentioned that her daughter, Puja, had even gotten a tattoo of his name, 'Mubarak', signifying their connection. This piece of information turned crucial as it linked Rahul directly to the victim.

The investigation took a darker turn with the revelation that the girl’s boyfriend, Rahul Mubarak, had allegedly attempted to strangle her. Following this violent act, he purportedly enlisted the help of a minor boy to help dispose of the body. As the police pieced together these chilling details, the main suspect, Rahul Mubarak, remained at large, adding urgency to the ongoing manhunt and the quest for justice in this tragic case.

An officer involved in the investigation shared, "For some reason, they had a quarrel, which led to this incident. We have come to know that the girl and her boyfriend had consumed drugs on the day of the incident." This quarrel escalated tragically when Rahul Mubarak, her boyfriend, allegedly strangled her during a drug-fueled altercation.

In a horrifying sequence of events, it is claimed that Rahul, thinking Puja was deceased, transported her body in a car to a factory. There, with the aid of a minor friend, he forcibly stuffed her into a sack. The pair then disposed of the sack in a nearby canal, thinking their grim task was complete.

The police have since apprehended a 17-year-old accomplice from Thakurpukur, who reportedly confessed that it was indeed Rahul who strangled Puja. The authorities are now in a fervent search for Rahul, piecing together the motive behind the quarrel and the subsequent murder. According to the police, it is suspected that Rahul’s involvement with multiple women might have fueled the dispute that ended in tragedy.

Further unraveling the backdrop of this case, police disclosed that Parvati Chakraborty, a 17-year-old resident of Thakurtala in Sarsuna, was in a live-in relationship with 19-year-old Rahul Mubarak. Under the guise of securing employment, Rahul and a friend deceitfully enticed Puja from her home. In a rented vehicle, she was drugged and an attempt was made to strangle her by Rahul. Believing that she had succumbed, they packed her body into a bag and abandoned it in the Tali Canal. While Regent Park police have successfully detained Rahul's minor accomplice, the prime suspect, Rahul, remains elusive, adding urgency to the ongoing manhunt.

In a heartrending account provided by the victim’s mother, Papia Chakraborty, the depth of betrayal and deception leading up to the tragic death of her daughter, Puja, becomes painfully clear. Papia recounted, "Puja had been in a relationship with Rahul for four years. Puja's friend, Deepsa, lives in Padmapukur, Sarsuna, and Rahul used to visit her there. Puja would occasionally visit her friend’s house." The narrative took a grim turn on July 21, when, according to Papia, "Around 4 AM, Deepsa came to our Thakurtala home with two boys. They took Puja, promising her a job in a Sarsuna factory."

Rahul, who worked as a cab driver, played a pivotal role in the abduction. "Rahul had Puja in his car. They drugged her and took her along Mahatma Gandhi Road to Karunamoyee, where a bag was already prepared in front of a factory," Papia continued. In a chilling sequence of events, she described how Rahul’s minor accomplice stitched the bag with Puja’s body inside it in the car and then disposed of it near the Tali Canal in Kudghat.

The body of Puja was found two days later, on July 23, by the Regent Park police, but the severe decomposition initially made it unidentifiable. Reflecting on the days leading up to the discovery, Papia mentioned, "I initially thought she was at Deepsa's house, as she sometimes stayed there for three or four days at a time. But when Deepsa came home and said she didn’t know where Puja was, I filed a missing person's report at Sarsuna police station on July 28." The breakthrough came when police showed Papia a photo of a tattooed arm from the body found in the Tali Canal, which she recognized as belonging to her daughter.

The tragic case, now spearheaded by the Lalbazar police headquarters, points to a deteriorating relationship between Puja and Rahul, culminating in what has been characterized as a planned murder. The complexity of their relationship, marred by betrayal and fatal intentions, highlights the sinister undertones that led to this devastating outcome. With Rahul suspected to have fled to another state, the police are intensifying their search to bring him to justice, aiming to provide some closure to a grief-stricken family left to mourn the loss of a young life taken too soon.
