Madhya Pradesh Police Apprehend Anwar Qureshi For Producing Counterfeit Ghee From Animal Remains; Inside The Police Report

The grim discovery unfolded on the 24th of April, when law enforcement authorities in Khandwa, Madhya Pradesh, successfully apprehended a local man named Anwar Qureshi. The suspect was taken into custody on severe allegations of manufacturing and distributing a fraudulent, counterfeit version of ghee. Shockingly, investigators revealed that Qureshi was actively producing this ghee-like substitute using a disturbing mixture of animal fat, bones, and skin.

This illicit manufacturing operation was not hidden away in a remote industrial zone, but was instead operating right out of a narrow residential lane near Begum Park, located within the Imalipura area. The authorities finally moved to raid the property after they were flooded with repeated and urgent complaints from nearby residents. Locals reported that animals were being actively slaughtered on the premises, and their bodily remains—specifically fat, bones, and skin—were being systematically processed to be passed off as food products.

To tackle the situation, a massive joint task force was assembled. This combined team included officials from the district administration, the municipal corporation, the veterinary department, and the local police force. The authorities hold a strong suspicion that Qureshi was funneling this fake, unhygienic ghee directly into the local market, potentially supplying it to unsuspecting food joints and neighborhood restaurants.

As the raid progressed, the search teams uncovered a horrifying scene. Officials recovered multiple heavy sacks stuffed entirely with animal skin and bones. Scattered across the property were various drums and storage containers brimming with a thick, fat-based material. By the end of the initial sweep, the authorities had seized an enormous quantity of raw animal materials, a finished liquid product, and the final ghee-like substance directly from the spot.

Massive Seizure Of 9 Drums And 79 Containers

Addressing the press regarding the sheer scale of the operation, City Magistrate Bajrang Bahadur provided specific details about the confiscated goods. "The team recovered 79 containers from the premises, and each container had around 30 kg of suspicious material," he stated. Furthermore, he noted that the raiding authorities also secured "nine large drums of 200 kg capacity, which were filled with animal fat."

To ensure proper legal and scientific procedures were followed, the veterinary department stepped in to collect multiple samples from the scene. These samples were immediately packaged and forwarded for thorough laboratory examination. While the officials at the scene noted that the substance inside the massive drums clearly appeared to be animal fat at first glance, they maintained that the exact chemical nature and the intended commercial use of this seized material can only be officially confirmed once the final lab report is returned.

Details Inside The Official Police FIR

The formal First Information Report (FIR) was officially registered at the Moghat Road police station in Khandwa, Madhya Pradesh. This legal action was initiated based on a direct complaint filed by the zone-in-charge of the Municipal Corporation of Khandwa. The criminal case has been registered against the suspect, fully identified as Anwar Sheikh Bismillah Qureshi, under two strict legal provisions: Section 7 of the Madhya Pradesh Agricultural Cattle Preservation Act, as well as Section 292 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

Providing further context, SHO Dharwal explained the administrative process that led to the booking. He stated that he "received a formal letter from the Municipal Corporation, Khandwa, properly signed by Zakir Ahmed and Bhuvan Shrimali, the in-charge zone officers, directing us to register an FIR in the matter."

According to the official paperwork, the comprehensive joint inspection took place at the property situated opposite Begum Park in Pardeshipura, Khandwa. The inspection team was highly stacked, featuring the City Magistrate, the City CP, the Tehsildar, the Deputy Commissioner of the Municipal Corporation, the SHO of Moghat Road Police Station, alongside their subordinate staff. The targeted premises belonged directly to Sheikh Anwar Sheikh Bismillah Qureshi, and the inspection team caught him red-handed as he was actively melting down animal fat inside the confines of his own home.

Adding another layer of illegality to the operation, Anwar attempted to present a so-called business license from the Municipal Corporation of Khandwa. However, upon closer inspection at the spot, officials quickly determined that the document actually belonged to an entirely different person. Furthermore, the validity of this borrowed license had already expired back in 2023. Despite lacking any valid paperwork, Anwar was found to be illegally storing and trading massive quantities of animal remains—including fat, skin, horns, and other biological materials—in a completely unauthorized manner.

The official FIR outlines an incredibly detailed and disturbing inventory from the raid. Authorities officially documented the recovery of 69 tins of fat, each holding a capacity of 15 kg. Alongside this, they seized nine drums, each with a 200-litre capacity, containing an unknown liquid chemical. The physical animal remains were even more extensive: the team confiscated 600 distinct pieces of animal leather, 35 heavy sacks packed with the horns of buffalo or similar large animals, and an additional six sacks filled with the pipes or tubular bodily parts of buffalo and similar livestock.

Neighbors Demand Answers For Delayed Police Action

The community response has been one of deep frustration and concern. Providing an update on the suspect's status, Khandwa CSP Abhiram Warange confirmed that "Qureshi, the owner of the premises, was detained for questioning." He further elaborated that the police are currently dedicating their efforts to finding out exactly "since when he was running the business and who else was involved in the network."

According to multiple media reports, the local residents are furious. They stated that they had raised the alarm and complained several times about the highly suspicious, foul-smelling activities occurring at the premises. Tragically, absolutely no administrative action was taken until this recent, large-scale raid. The neighbors' earlier complaints had explicitly warned that live animals were being quietly transported to the location, slaughtered on-site, and their fat, bones, and skin were being actively cooked and processed. In the immediate aftermath of the police raid, outraged residents are rightfully questioning how such a massive, illegal, and unsanitary operation was permitted to run right under the administration's nose for such an extended period without being shut down.

Local Lawmaker Responds To The Discovery

The severity of the situation quickly drew political attention. Shortly following the conclusion of the raid, Khandwa Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) Kanchan Tanve personally arrived at the crime scene. Taking stock of the disturbing operation, she publicly described the entire incident as "extremely serious." Without hesitation, she demanded immediate and strict action from the district administration, forcefully calling for the toughest possible legal steps to be taken against anyone found guilty of participating in this illicit trade.
